Nadira's mind reeled as she processed Arash's words. She had always known the palace was a labyrinth of secrets and lies, but she had never felt truly threatened. Until now.
As she turned to leave the garden, Arash caught her arm once more. "Be careful, Princess. Trust no one."
Nadira nodded, her heart racing with anticipation. She slipped back into the palace, making her way to her chambers. But her reprieve was short-lived.
A servant awaited her, bowing low. "The king requests your presence, Princess."
Nadira's stomach tightened. Had her father discovered her nocturnal escapade? She followed the servant to the throne room, her head held high.
The king's expression was stern, his eyes piercing. "Nadira, I've arranged a marriage for you with the prince of Assyria. You'll leave for Nineveh in a fortnight."
