"So what now?" I finally asked, after walking through the seem to be endless dragons layer.
Dermis stopped for a moment and took a glance at his broken sword and spoke.
"We need better weapons, if we are going on this journey"
"Where will we get better weapons now?"
"Oh wait, we should visit the golems layer if we want better weapons"
Kyoko spoke out and she was right. Golems were known to make the best weapons in the world. Creatures who wield weapons often obtain one from a golem.
"Then to the golem's city it is"
"But, how would we get out of here?"
"We have Tremious, he knows the way around here....right?"
"Hmm...follow me, it will be a long walk"
***
We walked and walked but there seemed to be no ending to this place. Me, Kyoko and Dermis huffed and puffed. We three were out of our breaths; meanwhile Tremious looked unbothered and kept walking.
Days turned into weeks and we still didn't manage to get out of this place.
"I can't do this anymore! There's no end to this place....how long will this take Tremious?!"
"With this pace, at least a year"
"We can't be stuck here for a year! Is there any shortcut."
'sigh'
"Then give me your portal gem Dermis"
"Oh...right, here you go"
Dermis gave the portal to Tremious. I mean why didn't we think this through. Tremious must have enough mana all this time to open a portal.
Tremious grabbed onto the gem tightly and then grabbed my hand. I realized what he was doing and signalled the others to hold hands as well.
Within seconds the portal was opened. The portal looked different compared to the one made by Dermis. It isn't so surprising, Temious has a higher and stronger mana than Dermis. Nonetheless, when we walked through the portal, I felt dizzy.
Except Tremious, we vomited out right after getting out of the portal.
Tremious looked at us with a disgusted face and kicked Dermis butt away, since he was vomiting near his feet. Dermis still kept in vomiting even after that kick. The kick might have speeded things a bit. Nevertheless, once we all finished vomiting. We all looked at the marvelous view in front of us. The portal brought us to the outside of the golems town.
***
The place looked like a market, in every row there were little shops with various items. All were selling miscellaneous stuff. In every other shop, there was a golem selling things. Sometimes even some demi humans were present as workers in those shops.
We walked through the alley ways and saw many adventurers like us. This place was like a gathering for adventurers. We all scanned through the market to find a weapons shop.
"What about that one?"
"No Kyoko, those weapons looks very expensive."
"Then how about that Dermis?"
"That looks decent enough"
We walked to the shop that I suggested. The shop wasn't too extravagant and the prices looked doable. There sat a giant golem who was eyeing our every move for some reason.
"This looks nice, hey sir shopkeeper. How much for this"
Dermis asked while holding a beautiful sword.
The golem spoke in a husky deep voice.
"500 gold"
"What!? 500 gold for this. That's outrageous!"
"Then what about this one"
"300 gold"
"Alright everyone, we are out of here. This place is a scam"
Dermis said while shoving aside the sword and stopping out of the shop angrily.
In my opinion those prices were actually perfect. The sword that Dermis picked out was made by grinding the horns of a fangtooth monster. Those monster are very difficult to hunt because of their poisonous spikes in their back. Not to mention their giant fangs.
Yet we can't complain. The weapons that we will get here would be extremely good. Obtaining weapons like that would cause a fortune.
"Umm guys, how much money do you all have?" I asked abruptly.
"I only have 300 gold right now, I spent most of my money to buy that land from the yellow dragon's head"
"Ok, what about you Dermis?"
"Only 200 gold"
"Tremious?"
Tremious looked annoyed and spoke arrogantly.
"What do you expect? My fortunes are all in the red dragons clan right now. Can't even bring them back, thanks to someone"
Dermis gave a shaky laugh and I just blurted out the sum of money I had.
"I have 150 golds now, I sure didn't expect to set out in a journey. If I did, I would have bought more...."
We all sighed, we didn't have enough money to buy weapons or other necessities at all.
"How about we make some money by doing a few bounty quests."
"Oh! Great idea Koyko, I'm so glad that you're here"
"Thanks"
"No seriously I mean it, you're my saviour"
I said while glaring at Dermis, who definitely didn't notice my glare.
***
We reached the centre of the town and saw a big sculpture in the middle. It was a giant rock sculpture of a young adult who didn't look human. He had a grin on his face and the clothes he wore were lavishing. At the bottom there were words engraved on the concrete stand.
"Black Dragon Homalius Patrickal"
"He is the founder of this town and also our hero"
Without notice, a voice came from behind of us. It was the same husky with a deep voice. We all looked back to see a giant golem standing at least at the height of 200 centimeters.
"Oh I see" Kyoko awkwardly said.
"Who might you be sir?"
"I'm the visionary of this town."
I was a little startled by the remark and the golem continued.
"That black dragon, is the one who made us golems feel emotions"
I was familiar with what he was speaking of. Originally golems had no feelings, they didn't have the mechanism to. They only lived for a 1000 years and the number of golems will always remain a 1000 as well.
A golem is a creature that lives off mana. Once a golem dies, their mana is released out and that mana gets inside of a nearby rock or any kind of mineral. And that rock or mineral becomes a new golem. Yes the golem will not remember any of their past memories, that is the reason they are like babies; That needs to be raised and taught things.
In similar manner, this caused them to have no emotions, they were just some walking talking objects. For the most time, they weren't even considered a creature.
Even so, one day a young dragon visits the golem town. He saw how golems did not have emotions but deep within his heart he knew they could feel things. So he stayed in that town for his whole life. The 100,000 years of his was spent in teaching golems emotions. And overtime he succeeded.....only a bit.
The emotions he managed to teach all his life were only happiness, sadness and love. Love in a way of a family or companions not in a romantic type. After all they don't even have genders and they all look the same and sound the same.
"You guys don't seem familiar, are you all travelers?"
"Ah..yes, umm... Could you please tell us where we can find a guild?"
"A guild, will you join one?"
"No, we want to complete some bounties for some coins."
"Is that so? Then you all are lucky to cross paths with me."
"Huh?"
"I'm actually looking for people to complete a bounty of mine, the compensation is 1000 gold coins"
"What?! 1000, we will take the job!"
"Wait Dermis! We don't even know what the job is yet"
"How bad could it be"
I starred at Dermis in a unbelievable manner. This guy is the definition of bad itself. Whenever we follow his ideas, it never ends well, just take a look at what happened in the dragons layer.
"We will take your job sir visionary"
"Very well, follow me"
