February 13th — Morning
The abandoned building was surrounded by police tape.
Earlier that morning, the Munich police had received a call from a man reporting a multiple homicide inside the structure. Within an hour, patrol units, detectives, and forensic teams had already arrived at the scene.
Police officers moved in and out of the building while forensic vans were parked along the street.
The suburban neighborhood had been disturbed by flashing lights and the low murmur of radios.
Then another car pulled up.
Two men stepped out.
Niklas Schulz and his partner Hans Weber.
Near the entrance, where the yellow tape blocked civilians from entering, a uniformed officer approached them.
"Good morning, detectives."
Niklas greeted him with a handshake. Hans did the same.
"Tell me what happened," Niklas said.
The three of them crossed under the police tape and entered the abandoned building. The officer led them toward the staircase.
