Chapter 7 - Down The Hatch

A soft whisper hits Isaac's ears. His head sends out a throb, forcing his hand to reach for his head. A rough palm lands on his head, it feels like sandpaper rubbing against his head. A small, delicate hand reaches out to touch his palms, and a warm breeze bathes him as he opens his eyes.

Isaac is in a small room, and Mercer is standing leaning against the door frame. A small child is kneeling next to him, outside the door, and a pitch black sky can be seen. Isaac seems to be in a small hospital, and a few men are in other beds no more than 1 meter away from him.

Mercer spoke up, "You have been asleep for 3 days, so your observation time is over, and you can join us." Mercer sits on a chair next to Isaac's bed and continues, "So as an elder, I would like to ask you what happened for you to be in that state, that is assuming you can remember, even if you don't tell us, nothing bad will happen."

Isaac took a moment to gather his thoughts before speaking, "I don't remember much. I was trying to sleep, and when I did, I had a strange dream, to be truthful, it was really scary." Isaac opens his hand, and deep nail marks are engraved into his hand that holds the purple orb.

Isaac takes a moment and continues, "It seems to do with my core power. I am not going to tell you the specifics since I can't trust you, but what I can tell you is that I have a way to give you dark vision, but I can only give it to one person." Isaac thinks about his core power for a moment to check how it is doing

Isaac runs through his thoughts "so it seems like it was true and that dark vision became that orb, and I am placing all my hopes on that someone can 'absorb' it somehow, maybe through eating it or breaking it and inhaling it, but at least I can learn something else now and I assume that I am core power is 30% more proficient with it, according to rumour's once it get to 100% it gets stronger, so maybe I will be able to learn 2 power."

Isaac looks at Mercer and gives him the orb and speaks, "This is the physical form of the dark vision power. I can guarantee that, since that's what my core power voice told me."

Mercer looks at the orb before looking shocked and speaking, "Wait, you can already hear your core power voice, it normally takes people weeks before they hear it, but then again, nothing has been normal since you showed up. How are we meant to use the orb? I heard stories about something similar from another villager a while ago. He called them 'power stones,' and to use them, you have to swallow them whole. I am only asking since it could be different."

Isaac looks and shrugs and sits up, resting his head on his hand, and speaks, "I don't know, my core voice couldn't tell me in time before I ended up in the state that you found me in." Isaac looks down at his clothes, it was his school uniform it was covered in dry blood, luckily it was only blood and nothing that smelt to bad, but with the state that they were in he would most likely dump them if he was still on earth, but in the hero's world it was all he had, if he had his school bag he would be able to get his gym clothes but he lost it on the dune when he was brought here.

Mercer looks at Isaac and his relaxed face before opening his mouth and swallowing the orb, a cold breeze hit him, as his eye gained a hint of blue into his green eyes. Turning around to look out the door, he could see clearly and make out the smallest of details in the dark parts of the village. Mercer spoke, "Get up, kid, it's time to get you situated and talk man to man."

Isaac stood up as he heard his core voice, "Would you like to 'learn' Mercer Stone's super strength?" Isaac thought for a moment and responded to it with a calm "No. Not right now, we should see if anyone else has common core powers that are better. If we can't find any, then we can, since I need to get my bag at some point for James's book full of magic theory."

Mercer take Isaac to the wall walkway that Mercer was at during the stone dweller attack, Mercer gazed out across the wall, he could see the jet black dune extend for over 100 kilometres before darkness stopped him, he could see many different animals, all ones he fought, he could even see the Puppet Master at the very edge of his sight, even thought it was so far away Mercer could make out the tiniest of detail, so when Soffle's dead body walked away from the Puppet Master he could see the mutt's wide smile staring right at him, if he wasn't prepared for this he would have most likely pissed him self but he had watched Soffle die when he was younger so all he could do was smile back at the Puppet Master as an act of challenging him before taking Isaac off the wall and over to the centre of the town.

Mercer thought of his core power to see how the power was doing.

Mercer thinks as he takes Isaac to a small outcrop, "It seems like power's from the kid act as 'branch' power, no wonder he was showing signs of overuse, he doesn't even know how to turn off his power." Mercer's vision returns to normal, no longer being able to pierce the darkness, he takes Isaac to a small training ground and speaks "since you seem to be useful we will be training to fight, to help us find a way out of here, we will run through how calming monster kill work later, and we will get you a better set of clothes then those."

Isaac turns to look at Mercer with horror and sighs before saying, "Those monsters better make good clothes or I am leaving you all to die."
