Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: An Introduction

[POV: Anthony Renjiro]

My name is Anthony Renjiro, I am 23 years old, I am a man of Italian American and Japanese birth. I have an older brother by 11 months and 15 days. My apartment is in the northwest section of Baltimore, just outside the city, and I am not married. I work as a health science teacher for a magnet middle school; I get home every day by 7pm at the latest. I do not smoke, and almost never drink. After having a glass of chocolate milk and meditating for about 20 minutes before going to bed by 9pm, and make sure to get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. I was told I have slightly high blood sugar levels due to my high carb diet at my last check-up, however due to my habit of using a single metro stop then walking to work every day, I have kept myself healthy despite by reliance on pastas as a cost saving meal. I am trying to explain that I am a person who wishes to live a quiet, semi-disciplined, and frugal life. I take care not to trouble myself with anything unnecessary, for this reason I don't use social media, only occasionally watching a cooking video during times I wish to not eat pasta and can afford a luxury, again disciplined yet flexible and frugal, anything to avoid losing sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know what brings me happiness. Although, this makes substantial changes to my disciplined life a pain.

As a man who enjoys quiet, I decided to start college in spring so I could ease into my habits, but this also made it perfect as my last semester would end before Christmas, a time where most other students would be home, a time where there would be the smallest crowd at the graduation ceremony. I graduated on the 18th of December, 201X, with a Bachelor of Medicine, however I knew that to get a job as a physician, I would need to go to med school and do residency. All expensive, time consuming, and stressful. However, during my time at college, despite wanting to stay out of unnecessarily stressful situations, I became the leader of a study group. How it happened, I still have no idea. Despite hiccups, I found that my exceptional memory and tongue that could get me out of trouble worked well together. A synergy that made me great at explaining complex subjects in simple ways, a natural born teacher. Realizing this I abandoned my childhood idea of being a doctor, which I realized early on would be stressful and residency was something I was not looking forward to and decided to become a teacher.

Finishing college meant leaving a place where four years of habits were made, returning

home my parents decided to have their second honeymoon as both their kids had finished school. My older brother married during my third year, and they are having a child soon, so my parents transferred the house title to him and went off on their trip. My brother allowed me to stay in my room for four or five weeks before needing me to move out as they wanted to renovate before the kid was born. However, I only stayed five days before my sister-in-law had drunk all of my nightly chocolate milk during her cravings. I found an apartment and moved in on day seven. I did not need help moving, as being a very frugal person meant only having necessary items in my room. I never left anything in the living room or kitchen as that meant having to do unnecessary cleaning later. As a person who loved a quiet atmosphere, a corner apartment on the top floor was his choice. It did not matter much to me if I was farther from the elevator, in fact I found that it was even quieter with little to no noise from the hallway.
