Thirty years ago, the sky broke.
It began with an energy storm sweeping across the globe in a blinding flash. For most, it was just a terrifying night that left them with scars or strange memories.
However, for a select few, the storm was a catalyst for rapid mutagenesis.
It triggered a violent rewrite of their genetic blueprint, granting them abilities that defied nature and reassembling their very essence into the first of a new species known to mankind.
This was the birth of Peculiars.
Yet nature rarely gives without taking something in return. And so, human transfection wasn't the storm's only consequence.
Nightmarish creatures called Dogmas were also unleashed. Many believe they're "failed" mutations of the transfection cursed to be monsters.
This era was christened Neo Opus, a "new creation" of evolution.
But beneath that grand title lay a fractured world. In most parts of the world, the unaffected humans called Normies look upon the Peculiars with a religious fascination, but most harbour a deep resentment born of fear and an unwillingness to accept change.
This is a world held together by a fragile peace and the reassurances of scientists who insist the storm was a singular, never-to-be-repeated anomaly.
Whereas, somewhere on the planet, order is manufactured in Argona, a domed metropolis surviving on a potent mana source called Venerum.
Venerum is mined and distributed by Siso Corp, controlled by the mogul Karver Sisori, while life is strictly policed by a global quasi-religious organisation dedicated to regulating Peculiars and all things supernatural.
They're known as the Cura Supernorum.
Now, the year is 2040 in the area society would rather ignore...
