Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Day of the Ranker

Lucifer rose early in his palace chamber—his official detective suite. He adjusted the brim of his new ranker's hat, now marked with his newly earned badge: Rookie Rank 3000. Downstairs, his assistants and attendants waited, already alert.

"Viron," Lucifer said, "join me for meditation. Today is the 11th—we meet the client tomorrow."

He turned to Mitsuo Kit.

"If any local cases come, register them. I'll handle everything today."

Lucifer and Viron entered the meditation hall, where they spent three focused hours aligning their mana threads and spirit flows.

By the 8th hour, they returned to the palace.

"Mitsuo," Lucifer said, "we're heading to the cafe. We'll be back by 10."

At the café, he ordered:

1 Blood Coffee (made from beetroot serum) 1 Chocolate Latte

Lucifer turned to Viron.

"Drink this. Beetroot enhances blood properties—perfect for vampires. I also got O+ve blood, one liter from the mana bank, since you slept for 1,000 years."

Viron nodded, surprised.

"You care for me deeply, even though I'm new to your journey. I don't know what's happened during my long slumber."

Lucifer sipped his latte.

"Many things changed. Some places are gone… some people too. But most races still thrive. Vampires like you—once called human subrace—are now fully evolved species. You were born with bat mutations, labeled evil at first. Not anymore."

Viron smiled. "Understood, sir."

They returned to the palace.

"Welcome back, Sir Lucifer," Mitsuo said. "Two minor cases have arrived—one missing dog, and another from a knight client."

"In two hours," she added, "the knight will be at the café."

"Add both to the case file," Lucifer said. "I'll begin with the dog."

 🐶 Case 2: Missing Dog

Three kilometers outside Grand Avenue, Lucifer met a 11-year-old girl named Roxy, of the draconic race.

"Sir, I lost my little dog while playing," she said.

"Where exactly?" Lucifer asked.

"On Owrun Merdis Road, two days ago. I've searched. No sign."

"Go home. I'll bring your dog back," Lucifer promised.

She nodded. "I'll send my address to Mitsuo Mam."

Lucifer traveled to Owrun Merdis Road, 15 km north. It was filled with shops and restaurants. At Jesto Shoppe, he asked the owner Istra.

"Detective," said Istra, "I saw a dog in Carpted Town Park—while at my friend's birthday."

Lucifer called Duke Vernos.

"There's a lost dog in Carpted Park. Please send it to the agency within the hour."

Duke replied, "You work swiftly, Detective. Understood."

 Case 3: Missing Gold

Meanwhile, Knight Crome met Viron at the restaurant.

"Someone stole my house gold. Other knights will mock me if I report this to General Frozy… so I trust your agency."

Lucifer arrived.

"When was the theft?"

"Yesterday, at the 30th hour."

"What's your address?"

"Kitora Road, South Owrun. House No. 35, 2nd Block."

Lucifer said, "Thieves can't use blink stations or highways under guard. They're still nearby."

He and Viron reached the house.

"Viron—use Search Magic, Circle 9."

Viron scanned the area.

"I sense gold buried near the playground."

They arrived just as three men were digging. Lucifer cast Fire Arms — Circle 7 Fire Spell, battling and subduing each thief.

"Register them. Retrieve the gold," Lucifer said.

Knight Crome handed over a glowing family jewel.

"This is my reward. It grants premium train blink access."

Later, Roxy appeared and gave Lucifer a handmade dog doll.

"This is for you, sir."

Lucifer smiled.

"Mitsuo—place the doll on my desk, and the jewel in the agency vault."

🌊 Next Case Approaches…

The next day—Date 12—a man named Egaso minister arrived from Vetako Kingdom, part of Zeno Continent.

"I come from our king," Egaso said. "A sacred palace was once underwater. Now… it has turned into a Blood Palace."

"Your father recommended you," he added. "Come with me. Let's reach Vivita Capital—it only takes five minutes by blink transport."

Lucifer nodded.

"Time to begin our next mystery."
