Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Shopping

Levi was extremely curious about this future King of Men.

If he could meet him in advance, that would be quite nice.

However, if he went to Rivendell, he would probably be away for quite some time. Now that he couldn't summon iron golems, his castle would be completely defenseless when he left.

After thinking it over, he decided to return to Bree first, get the things he needed, and secure his territory before anything else.

He left a sign at the castle gate carved with "Temporarily Away," took several stacks of food, equipped all his gear and tools, and set out on the main road heading west.

Compared to when he first came, this return journey was much easier. First, having traveled the route once, he was familiar with the road conditions. Second, he had sufficient food.

The third point was that Levi now had the world map, allowing him to check his position at any time and calculate roughly how long it would take to reach his destination.

Aside from the somewhat tedious and boring travel process, the journey encountered no other obstacles. Very smoothly, he arrived at Bree's gate and submitted to the guard's inspection.

However, this time, the guard's attitude surprised him.

At the gate, the guard opened the small wooden window, glanced at Levi, and without asking any questions, directly opened the gate and gestured for him to enter.

He even greeted him. "Welcome, friend. How are the road conditions lately?"

Levi was stunned for a moment and replied, "Not bad, quite smooth. I didn't encounter any obstacles on the road."

"That's good."

The guard nodded and went back to sitting.

Walking along the road, he was thoughtful. Suddenly, Levi opened the faction interface to check Bree.

[[Bree] Regional Reputation: 34 (Friendly)]

Source: Killed bandits, annihilated orc squad.

So that was it. Although the reputation mod unlocked relatively late, his previous deeds hadn't been forgotten.

From 10 reputation points onward, faction attitude became friendly.

To unlock higher-level achievements required more reputation. He glanced briefly... the next stage required 100 points.

Without dwelling on it too much, Levi focused his attention on the main purpose of this trip to Bree.

Shopping... purchasing supplies he couldn't obtain himself.

Such as seeds for pumpkins, potatoes, carrots, and other crops.

Also, he wanted to buy a horse for transportation.

Human running ultimately couldn't match horse speed.

Although in terms of endurance, Levi was definitely stronger than horses... after all, he could eat without stopping, with a fuel consumption of half a stack of jerky per hundred kilometers... always running himself wasn't sustainable. He was getting tired of running.

With his goals set, Levi first went to The Prancing Pony to book a room and directly asked the owner if he could get two good horses.

Perhaps due to reputation bonuses or because he was still spending generously, the owner immediately agreed to his request, promising to bring Bree's two best horses in the shortest time possible.

Although he said this, Levi didn't know how short this "shortest time" would be. He could only wait.

After arranging his room and having a hearty meal at the inn, he immediately went out to ask around where he could buy vegetables. Under the friendly reputation bonus, this process went smoothly. With just a few casual questions, passing townspeople told him all about Bree's markets and vegetable vendors from east to west.

Following the helpful townspeople's directions, Levi quickly found a farm.

"Welcome, sir. What do you need?"

The farm owner greeted him enthusiastically.

He immediately stated his requirements. Fortunately, this place had all the crops he wanted to buy.

Pumpkins, potatoes, carrots, wheat...

"Eh, this is..."

Levi walked to a basket and picked up something inside.

"Corn!"

[Unlocked Crafting: Corn Seeds]

"Give me a sack of this too!"

He bought it on the spot.

"Yes sir, Bree's most diligent hands at your service!"

Then he saw onions, ginger, and garlic still carrying some soil nearby.

"I want these too!"

"Yes sir!"

After a round of trading, Levi had spent all the silver on him, including the blackened silver coins looted from the orc squad.

The diligent farm owner was beaming... today's business was truly excellent. This gentleman really didn't treat money as money, not even haggling over prices. Whatever crop caught his eye, he'd wave his hand and want to buy wholesale quantities.

"Welcome back anytime!"

Probably won't be a next time.

Levi replied mentally.

Soon you'll see what Minecraft farming speed is like... wheat that ripens in a few days, ever seen that?

Leaving the farm, looking at the several sacks of crops in his backpack, he felt fully satisfied.

The only pity was that there didn't seem to be watermelon cultivation here. Thinking about it, he really hadn't seen any.

With crops collected, he just needed to wait for the inn owner to bring the promised horses, then he could go home.

Crop seeds could be solved through crafting table synthesis. Through the crafting table, crops could be directly converted into seeds with Minecraft characteristics.

But animal breeding... Levi hadn't tried that yet. In that wilderness area around Roadside Fort, he could only occasionally find a few wild cattle, which couldn't be led back at all. Their main use was being slaughtered for meat.

This time, buying two horses directly, he planned to take them back to test whether they could breed Minecraft-style horses.

However, before that, Minecraft horse breeding required gold.

At minimum, two golden carrots were needed.

But gold ore was very difficult to mine. He had been chiseling at the mineral veins near Roadside Fort for over a month without seeing a trace.

No choice but to find somewhere to exchange for some.

His first thought was the blacksmith shop. Following his memory, he came again to a familiar location.

"What can I do for you, customer... hmm?"

"Oh... it's you! Hello, what do you need?"

The blacksmith greeted him, obviously recognizing Levi.

"I'm honored you still remember me."

"Of course I remember, sir. I heard about an adventurer passing through Bree who single-handedly dealt with a group of highway bandits and killed a bunch of orcs and wargs."

While speaking, the blacksmith put down his work, quietly approached Levi, and asked mysteriously, "They say you know magic... is that true?"

Seeing the topic veer off course, he quickly called a halt.

"Stop, blacksmith friend. Let's not discuss that first. I came to purchase some materials from you, wondering if you have them."

Seeing the other party mention business, the blacksmith also put away his gossiping mind and asked, "What do you need? Just say it. Times have changed... your actions have proven you're no villain. If it's now, purchasing weapons wouldn't be impossible either."

Levi shook his head. "No, I wanted to ask if you have any gold here. I'd like to buy some..."

The blacksmith immediately performed a tactical head tilt.

"I'm a blacksmith, not a goldsmith, sir."

Well, it seemed there was no chance.

Just as Levi sighed and was about to leave, a familiar voice came from a familiar place in a familiar position.

A person suddenly popped up from behind a nearby fence, saying, "Hey, adventurer sir, I just heard what you want to buy!"

"Get lost! You stinking scrap collector, stay away from me!" The blacksmith immediately cursed angrily, showing no face.

Such a familiar scene... where have I seen this before...

He turned his head and indeed saw a sleazy face.

Scrap Dealer William.
