Therese's brows furrowed as Amari silently handed her a thick stack of photographs.
She flipped the first few, and her heart instantly tightened. Unpleasant images—ones she wished she would never see—stared back at her.
Her expression darkened. She skimmed halfway through, then suddenly stopped, unable to take more of it. With trembling fingers, she slammed the pictures onto the table.
"This doesn't mean they're real!" she hissed.
Amari only nodded, calm as ever. "You're free to believe them or not. But why don't you come with me tonight? Let me take you somewhere… and you'll see the truth for yourself."
Therese's face twisted in hesitation, clearly resisting the idea.
Amari leaned closer, her voice low and steady. "Haven't you noticed the rumors spreading on Weibo? The Mendoza and Sanluis families are planning a marriage alliance. Annie doesn't want it—she knows Martin's far too close to her—but her father is forcing her."
