"I don't know," Nicky said with a small shrug, his lips quirking into a teasing grin. "All I know is that Brent has feelings for someone, so I'm just trying to help him match with Amari."
If only Annie had known that these three were actually friends, she wouldn't have been this confused.
Nicky laughed, raising his bottle of beer. "Come on! Nothing's certain yet. If Amari agrees, then you won't even have to worry about this competition anymore!"
Brent's smile was bitter, his handsome face slightly twisted with frustration. "Honestly, I already know I don't stand a chance this time. I heard the Haskel and Clavel families are moving mountains just to secure Clover. With all their power, no matter who they pick, there's no way I'll be included."
His jaw clenched as he said it, and for a moment, the light in his eyes dimmed.
