Chapter 128: The Battle for Intelligence
With that, the Sand ninja's assault squad could no longer make any waves. In just a few short minutes, they were completely slaughtered by Kyosuke and the others.
"Whew... what's next?" Saori asked, catching her breath.
"Has the intelligence unit sent any news?" Kyosuke asked an intelligence officer behind him.
"Not yet."
"I see." Kyosuke lowered his head in thought for a moment, then said decisively, "We'll move laterally and inflict as much damage on the enemy as possible."
Seeing Kyosuke's decision, the other squads indicated that they would continue to advance into the enemy's territory to disrupt their formation.
The assault unit thus split in two.
Besides Kyosuke's squad of four, three other squads were willing to follow them.
And so, this small, twelve-person assault unit began their hunt.
Meanwhile, a certain special reconnaissance squad from Konoha had successfully infiltrated deep into the enemy's territory.
Buzz... On a cliff face in a valley, the buzzing of a swarm of insects suddenly sounded.
A section of the cliff, which had been the same color as its surroundings, suddenly trembled violently, and then three figures leaped down from it.
Even after they had landed on the ground, they were still covered in a dense swarm of insects.
Besides being able to change their color for camouflage, these insects could also effectively block the enemy's sensory abilities. That was how the three of them had been able to successfully infiltrate the enemy's territory.
"Alright, we're in," an Aburame clan ninja said with a hint of pride.
"Don't get cocky. Hurry up and scout out their troop deployment," another man with a strange device on his back said, rolling his eyes at his comrade.
This person was the intelligence officer of the squad. Every special reconnaissance squad was equipped with such a person, in order to transmit information in a timely manner.
"...You know that once we actively release our chakra, there's a high chance we'll be discovered by the Sand ninja," the Aburame clan ninja said faintly.
"...No kidding. I've known that for years. Stop dithering and get started."
Seeing that his two comrades were prepared, the remaining Hyuga clan ninja smiled slightly, then a surge of chakra suddenly gathered in his eyes.
"Byakugan."
In an instant, the situation within a radius of several kilometers was directly reflected in his eyes.
"Hurry up... hurry up," the intelligence ninja prayed in his heart.
At this time, at the rear of the Sand ninja army, in a tall tent.
"Not good, an enemy has infiltrated our territory," a ninja with a strange device on his head, sitting on the ground with his hands in a seal, said urgently.
"How many of them?" Ebizo, who was on the side, asked.
"Uh... three."
"Three... not good?!"
In an instant, Ebizo understood the purpose of this squad: to use some kind of sensory means to scout their troop deployment.
However, no matter how hard he thought, he couldn't figure out how the enemy had infiltrated.
But that didn't stop him from immediately sending men to kill this squad. Of course, it would be even better if they could be captured alive.
"Hurry up, are you done yet?" at this time on the cliff, the intelligence ninja was constantly urging his comrade.
"Don't worry, don't worry," the Aburame clan ninja said, although his subtle movements betrayed his true feelings.
It wasn't surprising. All three of them knew that the moment the Byakugan was activated for reconnaissance, the enemy would know their position. So, if they wanted to leave here alive, they had to retreat before the enemy arrived. Otherwise... they would likely face a fatal end.
But even with the Byakugan, it was not an easy task to accurately obtain intelligence from a sea of people, so they could only wait anxiously.
Finally, the Hyuga clan ninja spoke. "I've found the location of the enemy's medical unit."
"Great," the intelligence ninja cheered, then used a special means to transmit his comrade's description back to the intelligence center.
"Quick, let's get out of here and find another place to continue scouting," the ninja said hastily after transmitting the intelligence.
After waiting for a while and not hearing a reply from his comrade, he couldn't help but look up in a daze to confirm the situation. And the scene before him made him fall into a deep silence.
Because at some point, they had been surrounded by a group of Sand ninja.
Strangely, when the enemy hadn't arrived, the three of them had been so flustered. But now that it had come to this, their hearts had calmed down.
"A bunch of damn rats, always sneaking around. I'd advise you to surrender now. You might still live," a Sand ninja spat, then said mockingly.
"Hey," the intelligence ninja suddenly said to his two comrades in a low voice. "Speaking of which, how long have we known each other? I can't even remember."
"About four years, I think," the Aburame clan ninja said, his tone a bit uncertain.
"Four years and three months," the Hyuga said, stating the exact time.
"Four years, huh? Tsk, I never thought I'd be going to the underworld with you two today, but... it's not so bad."
"Alright, enough with the sad talk. We're all men. Are you trying to be cheesy?"
"Ha, you're right. Then shall we have one last fight?"
"Mm... one last fight!!!"
At this time, at the intelligence center set up by Konoha in the rear.
"Quick, an urgent report," a ninja shouted, looking at the translated information in his hand.
"What's the intelligence?" The person in charge of the intelligence unit was a ninja from the Yamanaka clan. He hurried over after hearing his subordinate's shout.
After a quick look, his face couldn't help but light up with joy.
He then quickly ordered another communication officer to transmit this intelligence to all the teams equipped with intelligence personnel.
"Whew..." He let out a small breath, calming his excited heart. The Yamanaka clan captain suddenly seemed to remember something and said, "Right, have them evacuate that place immediately and find another place to continue scouting the enemy's movements."
"Uh, I'm afraid that's not possible..." the first person said with hesitation.
"What's wrong? Could it be..."
"Mm... I sent a message before, but they haven't replied yet."
Thump. The intelligence captain slammed his fist on the table in front of him.
As a seasoned intelligence officer, he knew very well what this meant.
After a long while, he slowly said, "Don't just stand there. Continue your work."
"Yes, sir," the many communication officers, who were in charge of transmitting intelligence, once again worked in silence.
