Chapter 6 - The Day The World Slowed Down

Fluff Continuation

It wasn't a real date.

That's what Zoey told herself.

Just coffee. Just air. Just... him.

But her heart never got the memo.

"Are you sure no one followed you?" Mystery whispered as he pulled his hoodie low over his face, checking the alley behind her.

Zoey giggled, sliding her mask down to take a sip of her caramel bubble tea. "You're not the main character of a spy drama, you know."

"I am when I'm with you," he muttered under his breath.

She choked on a tapioca pearl and blushed furiously.

They walked side by side under the cherry blossom-lined backstreets of New Seoul. It was early evening, their first break in weeks. No concerts. No training. No emergency demon attacks. Just a moment to breathe.

They'd agreed to keep things quiet — for now. No one knew they were... together?

Dating?

Liking each other aggressively in secret?

Whatever it was, it was theirs.

And it felt right.

They found a quiet little rooftop café — the kind with fairy lights and mismatched chairs and hand-painted mugs.

Mystery pulled her seat out for her.

Zoey smirked. "What is this, a drama shoot?"

"If it is, I better be your lead."

"Who says you are?" she teased.

He raised an eyebrow, sipping his iced americano. "You kissed me first, Moonchild."

Zoey nearly dropped her phone. "That was emotional survival! That doesn't count!"

"Still happened."

"Don't make me throw this boba at you."

"You won't. You love boba too much."

...

He wasn't wrong.

She pouted.

He grinned.

They talked for hours.

About everything and nothing.

About childhood dreams.

About embarrassing stage mishaps.

About what it would feel like to be free.

At some point, Zoey noticed how Mystery was watching her — not with hunger or confusion, but... peace.

Like looking at her was a kind of safety.

And for the first time in months, she didn't feel like a weapon.

Didn't feel like a sigil.

Didn't feel like a walking prophecy.

She just felt like... Zoey.

A girl laughing with a boy who loved her.

When the sky turned a hazy lilac and the stars started blinking awake, Mystery leaned on the table with his arms crossed, chin resting on them.

His voice was soft.

"Can I tell you something stupid?"

She leaned in too.

"Always."

He stared at her.

"You make the world quieter."

She blinked.

"What?"

He reached out, brushing a stray eyelash from her cheek.

"When I'm with you, everything slows down. Even the noise in my head. Even the fear."

Zoey couldn't breathe.

"You make it easier to stay human," he whispered. "Even with everything else inside me."

She stood up. Walked over to his side of the table. Sat on his lap without warning.

He went stiff with surprise — then relaxed completely as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders.

"Then stay human with me," she whispered into his ear.

Mystery closed his eyes and leaned into her, forehead on her shoulder.

"For as long as you'll let me," he breathed.

They stayed there long after the coffee turned cold.

Two K-pop idols. Two cursed souls. Two people holding each other like the world didn't need saving tonight.

And maybe... it didn't.

Not right now.

Not when love tasted like bubble tea and warm hoodie sleeves and soft rooftop starlight.

Some people are born under moonlight.

Others find it in someone's eyes.

Mystery found his in hers.
