Chapter 2 - Awakening

Lysara wasn't feeling anything good right now. The only difference was her silver eyes shining with intense brightness, while her whole body felt like it was on fire.

They both screamed, but this place was far enough away that no one could hear them, not to mention those who could listen were inside a room where sound was prohibited.

Both of them fell to the ground and started squirming in pain. If they could see their bodies right now, they would have been terrified.

All their veins were visible. In Vaelen's case, they were completely black, covering almost all his skin, making him look entirely black in contrast to his fair skin.

Lysara was covered in veins that were shining, every inch of her body filled with those veins.

This process went on for at least 15 minutes before stopping. Both Vaelen and Lysara were already unconscious.

After 30 minutes, Vaelen's eyes fluttered, and he woke up.

He looked a little confused at first but immediately his eyes widened, and he pushed himself up to sit. He checked his whole body, it didn't feel like he was hurt anywhere. In fact, right now he felt a little too light.

He was sure that something was definitely different from before, but he couldn't put his thoughts on it.

He looked around and found that Lysara still hadn't woken up. He just hoped that she was fine too.

He stood up and came near her, it didn't seemed like she was hurt. He sighed in relief, she was a guest of the Tenebran family right now, and her safety was of utmost importance to him.

He looked around and saw that the pieces of fish were on the ground. They hadn't been able to eat them. Oh well, forget it.

He decided to wait for ten minutes. If Lysara woke up by then, it would be good, otherwise, he would have to wake her himself.

Not much time had passed, judging by the sun's position, so no one would be worried about her right now.

Ten minutes passed, and she still didn't wake up. He sighed and went near her. The way she looked right now, it felt like she was sleeping soundly.

He released a small breath in annoyance. How could her internal clock let her sleep so easily in this situation?

"Would you wake up already?"

His voice was quite loud, and as expected, Lysara woke up immediately.

"Eh! What happened... am I dead?"

She looked around immediately.

Vaelen really felt like bonking her head right now. He held back just because she was his guest.

"Yes, you are dead. Clean that dirt sticking to your clothes and go inside the house to greet the god, he has called you."

Lysara was already perfectly awake, and when she heard his sentence, which was clearly intended to mock her but still sounded genuine because of his way of speaking, she was speechless.

"Whatever."

She stood up, cleaned her dress, although there were still some stains, and no doubt her mother was going to ask her about it. She would have to come up with a good excuse.

"What the hell happened to us?"

Vaelen already had a good enough guess right now. The explosive strength he was feeling was more than enough indication for him. The agitation he felt from her was still there.

"Can't you feel it?"

Lysara thought for a second before standing immediately. She felt the increase in strength at once.

"Is this really what I'm thinking right now?"

"There's no other explanation for it anyway. Yup, we both are awakened right now."

"Isn't it impossible?"

True, it did seem impossible. Awakening is a process that happens between the ages of 16 and 18.

So awakening at the age of 14 was an impossible notion.

"Don't tell anyone else other than your parents. If you want, you can hide it from them too, but seeing how clumsy you are, it's better to tell them. Just don't mention my case."

"What do you mean clumsy?"

"I mean exactly what I said."

"Whatever. I'm going back, and if I'm clumsy, then you are... ehm... you are stupid, yes, stupid," she pouted, sticking out her tongue while starting to run back.

Vaelen just watched her, dumbfounded. Did that even make sense, or did she just use any word to come back at him?

Whatever. His thoughts couldn't help but turn toward the prospect of his awakening and the history of this world.

It is said Earth has seven continents. All these continents were under human control, but things changed dramatically when monsters began to appear.

These monsters didn't come from space but evolved from the animals existing in the world at that time.

This didn't happen for no reason. The solar system was said to be covered in a layer of obstruction. No one knew who did it or why it was done until they found a slate.

A slate which described some information regarding it.

It mentioned that whenever new planets are formed, they are obstructed by the universe itself.

This obstruction is done to prevent Essence from reaching planets with the potential to have life.

Essence is a basic energy that enhances people to have supernatural powers, similar to mana and other hypotheses humans had fantasized about in historical times.

The reason the universal law creates this obstruction was to let evolution create races according to desired conditions, because if Essence was allowed from the very beginning, the race that evolved first and became the strongest would suppress others from even reaching a point of sufficient evolution.

Only when enough evolution cycles have passed and multiple races have formed an equilibrium would this obstruction, which is in three layers, be removed.

The reason monsters appeared from the animals was because the first layer was removed some 200 years ago.

And since, unlike humans who diverted themselves from the original evolution path of nature, beasts that were evolving naturally were more prone to awaken first.

And this is what happened, and because of this, humans were forced to use their strongest means to fight. But how many animals were there? Far more than imaginable.

Lives were lost, continents were destroyed, before some hidden lineages came forward.

These were the lineages that had awakened even before the awakening of beasts.

It wasn't luck that they awakened, but rather, before the first layer was removed, the universal law had sent nine meteors to Earth. These meteors landed in different parts of the world.
