Time flew, and seven days passed in the blink of an eye.
Banner's package arrived safely in New York. Meanwhile, the bottle of soda, contaminated with his blood, changed hands several times before appearing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where it was bought by an old man with glasses and a full head of white hair.
Banner's original worry was correct.
Not long after drinking the soda, the old man collapsed and died.
His family, suspecting the soda was the problem, called the police. After a forensic autopsy, it was confirmed: the old man had died of gamma poisoning.
The question was, why would a bottle of carbonated soda contain gamma radiation?
This strange case was reported up the chain, eventually landing on a desk at the Pentagon.
Air Force Lieutenant General Ross, sat at his desk, smoking a cigar and reading a government report.
Because of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s total collapse, this nearly forgotten old man was back in the World Security Council's sights. To combat the Joker organization, the Council had granted him extremely high authority, allowing him to push forward the 'Super Soldier Program' unchecked.
As long as he could destroy the Joker organization, the Council and the US government wouldn't ask a single question about whether his experiments or actions were legal.
This privilege made Ross's old friends green with envy. They said his career was finally having a second spring, and if he completed this mission, he'd advance even further.
But only Ross himself knew the corresponding pressure was enough to exhaust him, making him lose all appetite.
Knock, knock, knock!
A knock came at the door.
A subordinate entered, handed him a file, and said, "General, you might be interested in this. An old man in Milwaukee died from drinking a soda. Forensics suspect gamma poisoning."
Gamma?
Ross immediately thought of the one person who haunted his thoughts.
He opened the file, glanced at it, and asked, "Where is the bottling plant?"
The aide replied, "Porto Harbor, Brazil!"
Brazil! That was exactly where Banner was hiding!
Excellent. After half a year, I finally have a lead.
Ross stood up excitedly and ordered, "Immediately assemble an elite team. Have the CIA's agents in Brazil put the factory under surveillance. Monitor all the white men in the factory. We must not tip him off. If he runs this time, we won't be so lucky again."
"Understood!" The aide immediately left to carry out the order.
......
Less than two hours after Ross gave the order, a team of elite soldiers had been seconded from all over the country to a Washington Air Force Base.
Among them was one ace: Emil Blonsky!
This special forces soldier, born in Russia and raised in Britain, had served in the Royal Marines for many years. He had conducted numerous dangerous missions and was a battle-hardened veteran.
There was no time to waste. As soon as the soldiers were assembled, they boarded a military transport and flew to Brazil. Ross accompanied them.
On the plane, a subordinate handed out ammunition while briefing the mission.
"You have the target's photo and location. This is a capture mission, live capture. You must use tranquilizer guns. Do not fire unless absolutely necessary."
Blonsky looked at Banner's photo and asked, "Will he resist? Or rather, can he resist?"
This question touched on classified information, and the aide didn't know how to answer.
Ross stood up, looked at his soldier, and said, "The target stole military secrets, murdered two scientists, and has evaded a massive military manhunt for half a year. So, do not wait for him to resist. The moment you see him, you tranquilize him and bring him back."
He looked at Blonsky and asked, "Any other questions?"
Blonsky shook his head. "None, sir!"
"Good. We land in 11 hours. Read your manuals, then get some rest. This is going to be a tough fight."
.........
Ever since learning of the Hulk's existence, Jason had been paying close attention to him.
Although he'd forgotten most of the plot, he still remembered a few key points.
For example, the Hulk's name was Bruce Banner, and he was a badass scientist.
For example, his girlfriend' s father was a high-ranking military officer who was obsessed with capturing him to be a guinea pig.
For example, there was a major villain who injected gamma serum and turned into an ugly monster.
Knowing these key points, Jason had Chloe constantly monitor the Air Force Base's movements. If they deployed overseas, she was to notify him immediately.
After half a year of silence, Chloe finally had good news.
Chloe: "Sir, the Air Force Base is active. A transport plane just took off from the base. Destination: Porto Harbor, Brazil. The flight plan was filed last-minute. It's very suspicious."
Hearing this, Jason immediately thought of Banner.
After half a year in hiding, he'd finally been found by his father-in-law.
Jason thought for a moment and decided to go say hello to Banner before the military got there. If he could recruit him into the Joker organization, that would be perfect.
Even if he couldn't, he could at least warn him the army was coming, do him a favor, and maybe Banner wouldn't take his anger out on the Joker organization.
Although the upgraded 'Energy Absorption' superpower had made Jason's strength unprecedentedly powerful, he still felt a little intimidated by the Hulk, the early-MCU's top-tier powerhouse. Until he had overwhelming strength, it was best not to provoke him.
"Got it. I'm heading to Brazil now. Chloe, keep monitoring. Try to find Banner's exact location."
"Understood!"
He logged off the Joker Community, went to his bedroom, changed his clothes, and prepared to leave. To avoid exposing the hideout's location, Jason deliberately drove out of New York City first, and only then flew to Brazil.
......
The Joker organization and the US Air Force hadn't even met, but the intelligence war had already begun.
By stealing the flight plan, Chloe guessed the Air Force had found Banner's location.
And the Air Force, by tracking Jason's flight path, knew their intel had been leaked and urgently notified Ross.
During their conversation, the intel department worried that Banner might give in to temptation and join the Joker organization. If that happened, the military's many years of hard work would have been all for nothing.
However, Ross was certain Banner would not join the Joker organization. As Betty's father, he knew the man.
Banner had a strong moral compass and despised evil. He had said more than once that he wanted to destroy the Joker organization. Even after everything he'd been through, Ross believed he wouldn't change.
His only worry was that Jason's reckless actions would cause Banner to lose control completely.
If it resulted in Jason's death, that would be one thing. But if not, Banner would definitely escape again, and catching him a second time would be next to impossible.
