Chapter 180 - Chapter 180 Air

Los Angeles, Air Force Command.

The operation to annihilate the Joker Organization was critical, so it naturally required specialists to run the show. The President himself had given the order. The Air Force's top general was personally overseeing the command, and his subordinates were all battle-hardened veterans.

A dozen massive screens in the command center were patched into the suits' video feeds, broadcasting the battlefield live. As far as these commanders were concerned, facing a fierce assault from a dozen Iron Man suits, Jason's lackeys were guaranteed to shatter on first contact. After all, even their boss couldn't take the heat from that many suits and was currently being chased all over the sky, running and hiding.

But reality slapped them hard in the face. A hundred Iron Man suits had split up to encircle six separate targets, and not a single battle had resulted in a victory.

The commanders were dumbfounded. What the fuck was wrong with this organization? The goddamn members were harder to deal with than the boss. Some of them had even one-shotted a dozen suits.

The General's expression was ugly as sin. A mountain of pressure was crushing him. He'd planned to use these 100 suits to wipe the Joker Organization off the map, securing his own place in the history books, a fucking legend. But at this rate, forget annihilation. He'd be lucky if these suits, worth over ten billion dollars, didn't all end up being sent back to the factory for a total overhaul.

The atmosphere in the command room was oppressive. Every officer was silent, minds racing. This couldn't continue. They had to find a way to turn this clusterfuck around.

First, the Joker Organization's power had once again completely reset their expectations. When facing an enemy of equal or even slightly greater strength, splitting their forces was a fucking stupid move.

The optimal tactic now was to concentrate all forces. Use the suits' high mobility to kill the weakest member of the organization before the others could regroup. Of the six members, only Harley and Jason had high mobility. The others were vulnerable to a many-on-one beatdown.

After a brief discussion, the commanders agreed the plan was solid. The only question was... who was the weakest?

All eyes turned to the screens. The answer was obvious.

Jason Walter!

The man who called himself the leader, but was, in reality, the shame of the Joker Organization.

The discussion was over. The General gave the order. "All units, listen up! Converge on Jason! Now! Cut him off from his team! I want all firepower concentrated on him, and I want him dead, fast!"

Receiving the new command, the soldiers instantly abandoned their targets and rocketed toward Jason.

Just as the rest of the crew was wondering what the fuck was going on, David, from his sniper's nest, saw the shift. "Boss, heads up! All of them! They're all heading for you!"

Ten kilometers away and 3,000 meters up, Jason was playing a game of cat-and-mouse with the soldiers. When he heard David's warning, his expression twitched.

Twenty suits against one, he could kite them with his speed and stay untouchable. But sixty or seventy? That was just a straight-up fucking rout. One mistake and he'd be seriously fucked up.

Before Jason could even reply, Harley was in his ear. "Honey, maybe we should pull out? We can fuck them up another day."

Jason snapped, "No fucking way! Those assholes saved Tony. I'm not leaving until they bleed. They owe me ten billion, minimum!"

Harley sounded worried. "Honey, this isn't the time to talk about money! You can't take them all on your own!"

Jason pulled up his system screen, gritting his teeth. "Just wait. If I can't hold out, you port in and grab me."

She couldn't change his mind and sighed. "Okay... but you fucking be careful."

In the few seconds they'd been talking, the legion had caught up.

PEW! PEW! PEW!

From a klick out, the soldiers impatiently opened up with full-power blasts.

Jason's brow tightened. He channeled more of his internal energy into propulsion. With a sonic boom, his speed shattered the sound barrier. The Iron Legion behind him pushed their thrusters to the max, refusing to be left behind.

There wasn't much of a speed gap. Jason topped out at Mach 1.3, the suits at Mach 1.2. And since Jason had to constantly dodge, he couldn't pull away.

He'd planned to hold out for at least five minutes. But now, less than sixty seconds in, he was already barely hanging on.

Just as Jason was about to bitterly give up, the Villain System finally lit up.

The instant the upgrade hit, the pain of genetic restructuring tore through his body. Billions of cells screamed in agony.

"AGHHH!!"

Jason let out a pained cry and blacked out, plummeting into the valley below.

Right before he lost consciousness, he managed to tell his crew to stay back.

Seeing Jason plummet, the soldiers assumed one of their blasts had connected. They erupted in cheers.

"OH!!! We did it!"

"Yes! We got Jason!"

Their celebration was piped back to the command center, shattering the oppressive silence. The field commanders let out a long, collective sigh of relief. The mountain weighing them down was finally gone.

Of everyone present, only the General remained stone-faced.

He hit the comms. "Get down there and find him. Until you have eyes on a corpse, do not, I repeat, do not get careless."

"Roger!"

Dozens of suits descended, switching to thermal imaging to find Jason's "body." Even if he was dead, he'd still be warm. It didn't take long to find him.

The feed was patched to the main screen. Looking at Jason's motionless form, covered in mud and sprawled on the ground, the General finally cracked a smile.

Excellent. Excellent!

America's number one most-wanted, killed in action by his Air Force boys.

Hmph. This half of the year, he could finally go to those idiots in Congress with his head held high and demand a budget increase.

He hit the comms again. "Good work, boys! Now, bag the body and RTB. I'm throwing you all a party."

Hearing this, the squad leader was confused. "Sir? What about the other hostiles?"

The General waved a dismissive hand. "Their powers are too problematic. They're practically a hard counter to the suits. To minimize our losses, we'll let them go... for now."

"Besides, with Jason dead, the Joker Organization is a snake without a head. They'll tear each other apart. Let them soften each other up. When they're done with their infighting, we'll move in and wipe out what's left."

"Understood!"

The captain ordered a few men to move in and retrieve Jason's "corpse."

Just as they got close, Jason's eyes snapped open.
