Chapter 18: Worlds Finest and a New Speedster Friend
The air in National City suddenly felt… faster. Adam, sipping his morning coffee at CatCo, felt a familiar hum in the air, a subtle shift in the vibrational frequency of the universe. He's here. Barry Allen has arrived. Time for some crossover shenanigans.
He watched with amusement as Kara, flustered and confused, tried to explain the concept of a speedster to a bewildered Cat Grant. Then, a blur of red and yellow, and Barry Allen himself stood in the D.E.O., looking utterly confused but undeniably charming.
Adam made his way to the D.E.O. under the guise of "delivering important CatCo documents" (which were actually just blank papers, but Winn didn't need to know that). He found Kara and Barry in the observation room, discussing Livewire and Silver Banshee, their combined threat looming over National City.
"So, two villains, one super-speedy hero, and one flying alien," Adam mused, leaning against the doorframe, a casual smile on his face. "Sounds like a Tuesday. Or a really bad fanfiction plot."
Barry, ever the polite Midwesterner, turned. "Oh, hey! You must be Adam. Kara's mentioned you. The… insightful one."
Adam grinned. "That's me. Or, you know, the guy who knows way too much about everything. Depends on who you ask. And you, I assume, are the guy who runs really fast and accidentally travels between dimensions? Nice trick. You should try it with pizza. It's life-changing."
Barry chuckled, a genuine laugh. "Yeah, that's me. Barry Allen. And you're… surprisingly calm about all this."
"Oh, I've seen worse," Adam said with a shrug. "Trust me. And besides, I'm a big believer in embracing the weird. Especially when the weird involves super-speed and flying. Now, about these two villains. Livewire, electrical, right? And Silver Banshee, sonic scream? You know, I've always found that sonic powers have a peculiar vulnerability to… well, other sonic frequencies. Or a really loud, annoying noise. Like, say, a cat screeching on a chalkboard. Just a thought."
Kara looked at him, then at Barry, a flicker of recognition in her eyes. She knew Adam's "hunches" were rarely just hunches.
Barry's eyes widened. "Sonic frequencies? You think… a counter-frequency could disrupt her scream?"
"Hey, I just watch the documentaries," Adam said, waving a dismissive hand. "But sometimes, the answers are in the most obvious places. And for Livewire, you already know she's got a thing for power surges. Overload her, and she's toast. Literally."
Winn, who had been listening intently, practically vibrated with excitement. "Adam, you're a genius! A sonic counter-frequency! And Livewire's overload! We can do this!"
Adam engaged in playful banter with Barry throughout the day. He'd "predict" Barry's next move, or finish his sentences with a pop-culture reference, leaving Barry delightfully confused but amused.
"So, you're telling me you just know this stuff?" Barry asked, after Adam had correctly guessed his favorite flavor of ice cream (coffee, obviously).
"It's a gift," Adam said with a wink. "Or a curse. Depends on how many spoilers I accidentally drop. But hey, it's a multiverse. Anything's possible, right? Maybe I'm just a really good guesser. Or maybe I'm from a universe where all your adventures are popular TV shows. You never know."
Barry just shook his head, a wide grin on his face. "You're a weird one, Adam. I like it."
As the day progressed, and Supergirl and The Flash teamed up to take down Livewire and Silver Banshee, Adam watched with a quiet satisfaction. He saw the easy camaraderie between Kara and Barry, the way they complemented each other. And he saw Kara glance at him, a warm smile on her face, a silent acknowledgment of his presence, his subtle help, and the new, strange, wonderful world they were building together.
Adam and Barry formed a quick rapport, a new friendship based on a shared understanding of their unique situations. Kara observed Adam's ease with Barry, further cementing her trust and affection. He wasn't just her confidant; he was becoming a bridge between worlds.
