Chapter 7 - Sunny Waters 2

Hey guys!

This is a commission from GalaxyWhale for about 4 thousand words.

This comm is under the assumption that you've seen Record of Ragnarok, but the basic premise is that humans fight Gods to not be exterminated and the 13 valkyrie help out the humans.

Hope you enjoy!

"Way of Water."

In an instant, Yoriichi was behind Poseidon, the aforementioned underarm now sporting a long cut that was dripping with blood as he stood there for a moment in disbelief. He swiftly regained his composure, turning around and charging at Yoriichi again. His trident was like the ocean itself, slamming against Yoriichi, attempting to drown him beneath all of his relentless strikes.

However, something was different. Unlike before where he could barely even dodge, this time, Yoriichi was weaving though Poseidon's attacks like how a fish swims through water, not dealing any damage to Poseidon, but damaging his ego as every single one of his hits only grazed Yoriichi's sword by hairs.

Like the drops of dew on blades of grass, it was almost effortless how he parried all of Poseidon's attacks.

The God of Gods growled, the frown being very fitting on his aristocratic face as he continued his barrage, a thrust to the chest that was barely tapped by Yoriichi's sword, sending it only inches away from his side, a hit from the side intending to skewer him from his stomach was deflected upwards, Yoriichi jumping back and readjusting his footwork.

'This water style is good, but I can't apply any pressure to him like this.' He thought, beginning to concentrate and change his posture. He leaned down closer to the ground, holding his sword in his left hand instead of the two-handed grip he had before. 'Sun-Breathing Variant: Way of the Beast.'

He ran back into Poseidon, putting more pressure on him than ever before. The God could only barely lift his trident up to block one of Yoriichi's wild swings, one that lacked all of the finesse and grace that he usually had, but more than made up for it in sheer power and tenacity. His first hit wasn't the last by a long shot, a horizontal slash upon Poseidon's chest, a thrust to his heart, attempting to even cut his eye open. They all missed by hairs, but Poseidon couldn't keep up these perfect dodges forever.

He was like a wild animal, a true predator that was trying its best to tire its prey out before feasting upon it.

Poseidon couldn't stand it.

He lifted his trident up and slammed it into the ground, the impact from it not knocking Yoriichi off his feet, but destabilizing him for a second, a second that Poseidon took full advantage of. He ran up to Yoriichi, swinging his trident down like a hammer of judgement attempting to crush a mortal under the weight of their sins.

Yoriichi quickly dodged to the side, committing to a slash across Poseidon's upper chest, however, due to his focus on attacking, he couldn't see Poseidon's gambit. With all of the force that he swung his trident down at, it should've been a second for him to lift it back up, but with all the force he could muster, he lifted it back up at blinding speed.

They both took nasty blows. Although they tried to dodge each other, Yoriichi suffered a heavy laceration upon his forehead, the blood freely dripping down onto his eyes and the ground while you could see Poseidon's very ribcage, Yoriichi's slash cutting through all of his godly muscles and tendons.

They both disregarded the pain, looking at each other in a deadlock. 'Sun-Breathing Variant: Way of the Wind.' In an instant, Yoriichi charged back in and slashed, but not at Poseidon's body, instead slashing the ground. Creating a smoke-screen, he immediately went to Poseidon's blind-spots and began to try and strike him down.

Even though Poseidon's godly reaction speed mostly thwarted these attempts, he couldn't block every single one. A nick on the shoulder, a cut on the achilles, a gash on his cheek, all of them kept accumulating like how he did Yoriichi. For the first time in this fight, no, for the first time in his life, Poseidon was feeling overwhelmed, he felt like he couldn't get out. Mortals knew this description very well…

"What's wrong?" A question was asked of him.

He tried to look towards who asked, but was only answered with a cut to his neck, one that would've been fatal had he not moved out of the way.

"What does it feel like, Poseidon…

What does it feel like to be drowning?"

His teeth gnashed together, the taste of blood in his mouth being prevalent as he grew tired of this game. He opened his ears and listened, the vibrations in the air, the sound of wind cutting, anything he could. He tried to listen to Yoriichi's heartbeat, the blood pumping in his veins, but he simply couldn't. It was like he had no fighting spirit whatsoever, like he became the wind the moment eyes weren't on him.

"H-how is he doing that?" Ares asked, his muscled body leaning over to look at Yoriichi's silent movements.

Ares is a very tall and extremely muscular man, towering most gods and humans alike in size and build. He has blond hair with a lock falling on the right side of his face, gray eyes and a square face with a prominent chin.

Normally he wouldn't be interested in what he was doing at all, but he noticed something. "He's not emitting anything!"

"Huhu, fascinating isn't it?" Hermes said in response, standing right next to his brother.

Hermes is a tall, handsome young man with an angular face, a mop of neatly combed black hair, droopy reddish eyes with concentric irises and a small mole on the right side of his chin. He had strange red tattoos, ones that nobody knew of the design above his left eye and under his right eye. Unlike his sibling, Ares, who wore a giant black loincloth and red cape, he wore an excellently well-dressed butler suit.

"That state…The Selfless State."

"W-well, I mean, of course." Ares nodded his head. "But, I was just wondering if you knew that so I could test your knowledge."

"Well, of course I knew, it's something that barely any mortals throughout history have achieved. Why, I could barely count them on both of my hands." Hermes said, deciding to humor his brother. "It's a state where your very being is nothing. No fighting intent, no malice, no hope, right now Yoriichi is no more visible than the oxygen in the air or Hades when he puts on his cap."

"Amazing…" Ares couldn't help but mutter under his breath, becoming more engrossed in the fight."

"Damned little fish…" Poseidon growled, his face twisting into a mad scowl. He wasted no time and instead of trying to react to Yoriichi, he attempted to predict him entirely. He only got nicked on his chest once more before he finally caught Yoriichi, locking his sword with his trident onto the ground.

Yoriichi let out a small frown, the blood on his right eye, making Poseidon out to be this vengeful god of justice. He quickly pulled the sword out, retreating, but Poseidon wouldn't let him go that easily in a million years. The God advanced like a freight train, his strength being manageable to Yoriichi, but his speed being a completely different story.

He was on the backfoot now. He was entirely relying on his ability to be evasive to survive, Poseidon's attacks taking their pound of flesh no matter what he did. Whether it was a nick on the arm to a hole in his leg that just missed the bone or a dislocated shoulder, Poseidon continued on.

Not only was that happening, but Poseidon was attacking from all angles. It was the Tyrant of the Seas ultimate move.

The Flood of 40 Days and 40 Nights.

For Yoriichi to get out of this situation, he needed something and he needed it as fast as he could get it.

'Sun-Breathing Variant: Way of Lightning."

Pushing his body to the limit, he resembled a burst of lightning, burst of lightning that escaped Poseidon's flood, remerging on the other side of the arena while Poseidon stopped in his tracks…His non-dominant arm hanging on only by a small patch of skin.

'You…'

He continued to fight, focusing everything on his right arm and onto Yoriichi, but it seemed like it was too late at that point. The God was formidable, yes, but after all that he had learned about him along with the injury, Yoriichi didn't need to adapt on the fly just to have a chance anymore. The Way of Water, Lightning, Beast and Wind was already seamlessly incorporated into his Sun-Breathing normally.

'Damned…'

He held on for only a couple of minutes, Yoriichi's injuries slowing him down, but not enough to give Poseidon a chance. Like an executioner, Hrist came down upon Poseidon's arm, separating it for good before Yoriichi pulled back, taking a deep breath before charging back in and doing the Hinokami kagura.

'Little…'

A downward slash.

A 360 slash.

Two horizontal cuts to his chest.

A spiraling cut to Poseidon's upper body, rending a chunk of flesh from his very shoulder.

A backflip in the air before the sword arced against Poseidon's jugular.

A horizontal slash to the eyes, raking them both out in one fell swoop.

An upwards slash that completely removed Poseidon's other arm, the trident falling with a loud THUNK

A thrust to Poseidon's chest, taking out his heart.

He would've continued, but his injuries were acting up, forcing him to stop and take a knee, however, it seemed like the match was already in his favor.

"Hell yeah, suck it you shitty Gods!" Brunhilde yelled from the stands with a smile on her face, holding Goll to her hip.

"…" Heimdall was silent, almost in disbelief.

"Wherever the after the afterlife for Gods are, I hope you find peace." Yoriichi said, taking a bow to Poseidon before walking into his boat, not showing a hint of pain on his face.

However, while he was being rowed back, he looked into the stands and although barely due to the blood, he could make out the faces of his wife, Uta, and she was cheering for him.

For the first time in this place, Yoriichi let out a true smile even amidst all of the blood and pain.

"YORIICHI TSUGIKUNI IS THE WINNER OF THIS MATCHUP!"

THE END

I hope @GalaxyWhale enjoyed this comm and my writing and I hope more people commission me. This was super fun to write and I hope all of you enjoyed it a ton.

I especially liked swapping Yoriichi's breathing styles to make up for his lack in some areas, that was fun as hell.

Also, since i forgot to mention it last time...

fun fact, I'm taking commissions now. I figured that I should make money off something I like doing now that my pockets are a bit parched. Go to here to see my Kofi. or to https://ko-fi.com/mrlegantrop for more like these.

5 bucks a thousand words, pretty low, but this is my first time doing this and I need to get the feel for it. You should probably message me, either here on QQ, on Ko-fi or on Discord so we can discuss if I wanna do your comm or not. My discord is mrlegantrop99027.

Bbbbbbyyyyeeee!
