It is Tuesday and I am sitting in class... Not my class but a class of a local university. I am not a student here but I am still sitting in THIS class while I missed MY class. Of course, it had to do with my brother.
...
"What?" I asked my brother. He waved his arms around to explain.
"You are heading to class? YOU?!" I asked.
He gave a thumbs up.
"Oh... okay... Have fun I guess?" I replied.
I honestly did not know that he attended classes. As he left the house an intrusive thought came into my head:
"Where though?" I thought to myself. "I mean is it like a community college class or some kind of skill learning class? It is most likely aint an university class."
...
It is a university class. I ditched my school again and now I am standing in front of a university building of a local prestigious university. I followed my brother in.
He was looking at a map of the building. He looked and found a room on the far right corner of the building. He looked at the paper he was holding and then he looked at the map. Then he drew a line with his finger from that room to another room in the middle of the floor. He started walking towards the right.
When he was gone, I looked at the map. The first room was Lecture Hall 105 and the second room was Lecture Hall 121. I also turned towards Lecture Hall 105.
...
I was sitting in Lecture Hall 105 but within the crowd of students I could not find my brother.
"What am I even doing?" I thought. I got up to leave when the professor's door of the lecture hall opened. My brother entered.
"What the heck?" I muttered and sat back down.
The class was murmuring:
"Oh my goodness, it's the guest lecturer Professor Kim today!"
"He is such a genius! I read his thesis about effective ineffective economic decision making by governments to boost economic outputs in underdeveloped economies!"
"I wonder what he is going to teach us today!"
"My... brother... is a lecturer? He has a published thesis?" My brain was melting.
My brother took out several books and a stack of papers from the laptop bag he was carrying.
When he was done, he looked at the class and then turned around and picked up a ridiculously long wooden pointing stick. The class went dead silent.
He stared at the blackboard, which was filled with mumble jumble I did not understand, and used his long pointing stick to tap at the top left of the board. Then he tapped at the middle right of the board. Then he drew a giant circle with the stick in the middle of the board. He took out a piece of chalk and wrote "Q.E.D.".
The class erupted into a full on commotion:
"Oh my goodness! Why did I not see that before! That makes so much sense now!"
"No! That means I got my homework wrong! I need to do this again!"
"Wow. Just... wow! How can you just simplify that just like that!"
My brother just calmly packed his books and stack of papers and left the room.
"What... just happened?" I couldn't find any reason why these university students looked so energized by that lesson.
"Right... brother left... I should go follow him." I left the room full of energized students.
...
I was sitting down in Lecture Hall 121. But this time, in the student chairs were old individuals who looked like professors. My brother was not here.
"Oh... no please don't tell me he is going to give a lecture to these people too." I dreaded.
My brother entered the professor's entrance but walked towards a seat in the student chairs.
"Oh... he is actually here to learn!" I noted. For some weird reason, I let out a sigh of relief. Another professor entered the room and headed towards the lectern with a laptop.
"Professors, Colleagues and distinguished guests from other institutions. We, at our prestigious university, have a proud tradition to show other professors what we are researching. So that we can spread the information of what we learned faster than traditional publication. This is in our belief that we can bring forward better interdisciplinary ideas to not only innovate and research but also teach in an interdisciplinary way to our students. Today, we have a treat for everyone. One of our colleagues, that you all know very well, has brought forward their current research." The professor at the lectern announced. "I will just skip the rest of the formalities and go straight into the meat of this research."
The room turned dark and the white projector screen came down. The project emitted an image.
It was of my brother standing in front of a blackboard with more mumble jumbles I don't understand. My brother in the video started flailing his arms around wildly and pointed at random parts of the board. Then a random graph came out and disappeared. Then more flailing for a good five minutes. Then the video stopped. The lights came on and my brother stepped onto the stage.
He looked at the crowd of professors and stretched out open palms to invite questions.
The crowd of professor erupted into full on conversation:
"That is brilliant, that would definitely put a new spin on traditional ideas!"
"How can anyone get clearer than that?!!"
"You are telling me that it is not a completed work? Then what will be written on the completed work??!!"
"I wonder if I can mix that with my research. I wonder if Professor Kim will share more of the data."
My brother bowed and exited the class.
"What... the heck just happened." I muttered as I escaped from that lecture hall.
