Chapter 38 - Patron of Stars: Architect of My Destiny (Part 6)

As we are currently in Esperon, I told them my ability to control the elements similar to magicians in Amara.

"Impressive," Asvin remarked.

"Indeed. Are you from another continent?" Jake asked, intrigued. "I know they aren't magicians, but their people can bend elements with ease."

I try to explain that I practically learned their technique from a person in another village. I had to lie to them because I don't want them to think differently about myself.

I decided to keep my origins vague, not wanting to reveal too much. "No, I born at Grayscot village. I learned from someone I know. A merchant that stay for a while there"

Jake nodded, seemingly satisfied. "I assume the person must be from Amara."

Feigning ignorance, I said, "I don't really know much about Amara."

I try to act like a person who knows nothing about other continents because a commoner would not have knowledge about the outside world. Only a scholar and educated person would know such a thing.

Jake explained, "There are people that can do bending techniques and they are from nearby continents of Love. The continent is divided into four nations -- the Water Tribe, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation and and the Air Nomads -- each represented by a natural element for which the nation is named. The Benders have the ability to control and manipulate the elements."

"That's right," Asvin added. "They use their mana to control water, fire, wind, and earth, much like you do."

Jake continued, "However, they can only inherit one magic from their generations. Only the Avatar is the master of all four elements. You are pretty amazing to bend two elements like wind and earth."

I'm relieved they are not more curious about it. But their look is more curious about the false merchant that I created from my lie.

I was relieved they weren't more curious. Asvin then asked, "How do you use your healing technique? Perhaps you use the Water Tribe's method?"

"Erm, yeah. Maybe, I'm sorry that I also didn't know the details of the healing technique that I use" I told.

"Does the person tell you in detail to perform it with water?" Asvin probed.

"Well, she is not clearly defined to use water. But she told me that the healing is needed to conduct like a flow of water." I explained.

"That's new to me," Asvin said. "Jake told me he had a fatal wound that completely healed after you used your magic. Maybe I could do research about that method and meet with this lady by myself" He mumbled to himself thinking of meeting personally with Lady Ellis.

Jake chimed in, "I was at the verge of death at that time. I am grateful that such a powerful healer like you came like a savior." He smiled at me sincerely.

Asvin concluded, "Well as we can expect. It is impossible for him to be here if he is from there. But maybe Amara's ability to control the elements could be learned by teaching."

He gazed at Jake, "Anyways, thanks for saving Jake."

"Well, you should thank my cat. He's the one who brought me to you," I said with a smile.

We all are having a long conversation together till late at night. I asked him about what happened when I passed out.

He told me about what happened a few days ago. After Jake woke up, he saw me collapse in front of him. He was able to get out from the forest together with them with Leo's help. He told me that I was holding Elijah's hand while he was sleeping on my lap.

That night, we didn't realize the time was already late. It's almost night time. "It's already late," Jake noted. "I'd be glad if you could stay here for several days."

"That's too much. I'm not good enough to accept your kindness," I protested.

"Don't worry, I think of you like my little brother. Is it okay if I call you that?" Jake asked warmly.

"Bro... brother?" I repeated, blushing.

I feel reluctant but his offer is convenient for me. "Well… It's not a big deal. I will accept your offer then."

Jake smiled warmly. "Alright then. Go ahead and take some rest, lil bro."

He pats my head and makes me feel embarrassed. His warm hands really make me flutter. I have always hoped that I could have the warmth and love of having an older brother. I rush into my room with Elijah. I slowly put him in the bed and lay on my bed. This is my first time feeling this happy in this world.

Maybe Jake is not a bad guy after all or does not want to feel indebted to me. If he is that kind of person, he should already leave me behind and let me die.

-To be continued-

The brother was having their first happiness in their life and not wondering what was coming for him. The warmth that they embraced became their wish for it to become everlasting. Maybe it is selfish greed that wants the comfort that they never receive. But faith is not a coincidence for the one who almost lost his life, sacrificing his own for others on the verge of his life; death.
