Chapter 7 - Ashes of the Boy I Was

[Day 3]

The pain was real. That meant he was alive.

Each breath felt like knives dragging across his lungs. Blood soaked the ragged bandages tied around his chest, and sweat burned his cracked lips.

But Naruto kept moving.

One foot.

Then another.

Even after his vision blurred, even when his legs trembled under his own weight, he dragged himself forward—deeper into the ruins of a place that once held his name.

He collapsed in front of a broken stone slab etched with a spiral.

"This is where it begins."

Day 4 – Sanctuary Chamber: First Steps

Naruto could barely move.

His ribs ached. His legs were weak. His breath was shallow.

But he stood.

Because if he didn't — if he even hesitated — then Kakashi had already won.

Flash – Internal Monologue

"I don't have anyone to teach me.

No sensei. No allies. No cheering squad.

I have scrolls. Pain.

And the voice of a demon in my head.

Good.

That's all I need."

Day 7 – Chakra Reconstruction

Naruto sat in front of three open scrolls, tracing the movement of chakra coils across the human body diagram. His shirt was off, torso still bandaged.

His chakra paths had suffered damage from the Chidori. Scarred. Uneven.

Kurama commented casually:

"You should be dead."

"I'll rebuild them."

Naruto bit into his thumb and began drawing lines across his skin using ink laced with his blood.

Kurama huffed. "That's not how you're supposed to—"

"I don't care what's 'supposed' to happen anymore."

Day 10 – First Burn

Naruto stood outside the sanctuary, barefoot on sharp stone. His legs trembled.

The air rippled as he forced wind and fire together in his palm.

It exploded.

He was thrown ten meters into the wall, ribs re-shattering.

He got up.

Again.

And again.

Kurama growled. "You're killing yourself."

Naruto wiped blood from his mouth. "Then I'll learn faster."

Day 12 – Kenjutsu Beginnings

He melted down rusted swords he'd scavenged from the Uzumaki burial chambers. Created a forge from chakra-sustained flame. Shaped his own blade.

It cut unevenly.

His hand bled every day.

He sharpened it in silence.

"This won't be a weapon.

This will be my language."

Day 15 – First Success

The fire-wind technique finally formed.

A vortex of flame wrapped around a compressed current of slicing wind.

He called it Infernal Spiral Fang.

When it struck the cliff wall, it tore a hole deep enough to bury two men.

Naruto collapsed from chakra drain.

And laughed once.

Just once.

Day 18 – Seal Theory

He lined the walls with tags.

Each seal he copied from Uzushio scrolls took three hours to get right.

Kurama watched as Naruto applied one seal to his own chest — a chakra limiter.

"Why would you seal your own strength?"

"To control it," Naruto muttered.

"To own it."

Day 21 – First Blood Chain

Naruto managed to summon a chakra chain for the first time.

It nearly tore his arm apart.

Kurama sounded almost impressed.

"You really are an Uzumaki."

"I'm not them," Naruto hissed. "They died forgotten."

"I won't."

Day 25 – Speed Training

He drew circles on the floor and set up spring-loaded traps using old kunai and tripwire.

Then he walked through them blindfolded, relying only on chakra detection.

First try: 13 cuts.

Second: 7.

Tenth: 0.

"Pain is a lesson.

The more I bleed here, the less I bleed later."

Day 30 – Kurama Begins to Engage

"You know most Jinchūriki never manage chakra chain fusion," Kurama noted one day.

Naruto wiped blood off his lip. "They didn't try hard enough."

Kurama tilted his head.

"You hate them that much?"

"No."

Naruto paused.

"I just want to stop needing them."

Day 35 – Sword Flow Mastery (Custom Form)

He created a style: Silent Fang.

Every move drew from shadow clone feedback loops — using clones to record his strikes, angles, and timing.

He trained like a surgeon with a blade.

No slashes wasted. No movement wasted.

Flashback – Kakashi's Back

The last thing Naruto had seen was his sensei walking away — no emotion, no hesitation.

That image burned behind his eyelids every time he trained.

Day 40 – Sleep Deprivation Test

He trained for 40 hours straight, pushing his chakra threshold to collapse, then forced his body to reset by cycling Kurama's chakra through his nervous system.

It was agony.

But it worked.

Kurama murmured: "You're evolving."

Naruto replied: "Good."

Day 50 – Emotion Control Training

He stood in a still room.

No light. No sound.

He triggered memories, intentionally — people's faces. Sakura laughing at Sasuke. Kakashi ignoring him. The villagers cheering his death.

And still... he kept his heartbeat under 60 bpm.

Kurama's voice flickered:

"You're turning numb."

"No," Naruto said.

"I'm turning silent."

Day 60 – Chakra Suppression

Naruto walked past a nest of snakes without being noticed. He moved through traps designed for ANBU.

He created a pulse-based "phantom body" seal that mirrored his chakra like echo-location, confusing sensors.

"I could walk into the Hokage's tower now," he murmured, "and no one would see me."

Kurama exhaled.

"They'd feel you."

Day 65 – Mirror Fight

He summoned a clone. Then another. Then ten.

He fought them until his legs gave out.

Then summoned five more.

He collapsed in a pile of his own blood.

Kurama snarled: "You're insane."

Naruto whispered, eyes half-shut:

"No... I'm ready."

Day 70 – Cliffside Meditation

He sat overlooking the ocean. Salt air on his face. Sword planted in the rock beside him.

He didn't speak.

But his thoughts burned like coals beneath skin.

"They smiled when I died.

I will give them the silence they wanted.

And then I will burn the sound of my name into their bones."
