In the book I faintly remember Essence being engaged, but because of her death it was never revealed of who it would be. How could the author leave out such a crucial detail, I will curse her for the rest of my life. "I'm so fucked" I muttered under my breath. My father's eyebrows furrowed at my comment. In my defense nobody told him to have hypersensitive hearing. "May I remind you, this is the most honored action you have ever done. Let's not forget how you disgraced the family already. Your wedding will be held in one month. Fix your attitude and stop your frivolous charades."His eyes hardened as he waved his hand to dismiss me. "Yes, father" I replied as I gathered myself and left. How does this tyrant expect me to act after receiving such horrifying news? Was expecting me to run with glee at his snarky attitude? There's no use in dreading it now, my best course of action is to decide how to proceed from here.
I began to walk from his study, when a maid fell hysterically. As I walked to witness the commotion, I see a vampire servant harping over a human one. Her eyes were unhinged and she was about to ravage her in the hall, this startled me. I stuck to the corner of the wall, should I help? Her actions are showing she must be starving but with such a face it's obvious that the woman won't be able to survive the attack. "You should watch where you are walking." The vampire snarked as she revealed the skin under the woman's blouse. I unconsciously began to lick my lips, I could feel the hunger taking over me as I witnessed the sight. "STOP" I impulsively shouted.
I startled them both, the woman's eyes were glossy and she was shaking with fear. I froze at both of them. I felt my hands get damped as I looked down, my fingers were curled into my hands, and I could feel fangs touching my bottom lip. "My lady" the vampire servant fixed her face and ran towards me with worry. "Are you hurt?" I shrugged off this meaningless gesture and proceeded towards the woman lying on the ground. I grabbed her hand to help her up, but she yelped immediately, scaring the daylights out of me. I looked down at her writing displaying fresh bruises from my hands. I didn't register how strong my grip would be, in the future I should refrain from touching people until I learn how to handle my strength. "Um, thank you. My lady, your hurt" she slowly grabbed my hand. I instinctively pushed her away, it's clear I'm not ready to be around humans until I can accept this blood thirst that taunts me.
"Both of you leave" I pressed.
I couldn't contain this hunger, I darted down the hall to my room. I grabbed the mirror sitting on the vanity, the sight that befell me caused me blood to pour down my cheeks. I can't even properly cry real tears, this is real...I was shaking as I touched the veins under my bloodshot eyes. My fangs were pristine white, I lifted my hand to touch the tips of them. One poke felt like a paper cut, my hair turned a white almost blending with my dress. This sight of a starving vampire, Essence couldn't properly take care of her diet before dying?
"Catherine" I mumbled. I hate that she has to witness me in such a lowly state, I wanted to remain calm, but on the inside I was hyperventilating. Air couldn't come to my lungs fast enough. She walked in the room, her eyes widened at the sight yet she remained quiet and waited for my orders. "Bring me a cup of blood." My voice raspy and eager. I have no choice, fighting my morals is pointless if the latter is me losing my sanity. "My Lady, you are in need of fresh blood. Would you like me to bring the usual servant?" She questioned. I'd rather not have my first day here end with feasting on someone's blood. "Bring a large pitcher of fresh blood, do not bring anyone in here." I glared at her before she eventually took her leave. Although I have to feed it was never said that it had to come directly from the source.
Before long, the door opened, but not with a cup. It was the human servant I said just moments before. Her face was bright red, she began to slowly remove her blouse while never leaving my gaze. "It would be an honor to have you feed from me once again, My Lady. Shall I remove my bra as usual?" She inquired before grabbing her bra strap and exposing her bare chest. Her perky nipples became the highlight of my day, but this isn't right. I was too starstruck to stop her, I watched as she walked over to the vanity where I sat. She pinned her hair up, and got on her knees. What exactly is happening right now? Was Essence feeding or fucking these servants? I whipped my head and crossed my legs immediately, this is not how I expected my first time to be. I refuse to fall to this type of salacious behavior.
"My Lady, what's wrong? You have been acting peculiar since earlier." She said as her hand gently touched my thighs. I could feel my face heat up, she's right. In the book, Essence was a promiscuous woman with numerous lovers, I can't let them find out I'm not her. Instead of talking back, i grabbed the back of her neck and began to suck her neck. Her blood tasted mimic the flavor of top of the shelf liquor, I could become addicted at this rate. She squirmed in my embrace at first, then slowly her body went limp. I immediately released her, and called for Catherine. What have I done?
Catherine flung the door open, and grabbed the servant girl, without a word both of them left. I laid on the bed and, and slowly closed my eyes to welcome sleep. "Remember, Remember" a voice chimed in my head. My vision is blurred, while my surroundings were engulfed in black. I rubbed my face to look around, and there was nothing in sight, but a woman appeared. Her face is the exact replica of the one I had in my past life. "Veronica?" I called to myself, yet the figure didn't turn to look at me. "This is the life you live now, eventually you'll remember everything. Now wake up." She whispered. My body shot up, and I was shaking uncontrollably. What did she mean by that? Remember what exactly, why am I here? The morning air invaded my nose, fresh tea sat on the side of my stand.
"My Lady, an invitation has arrived" Catherine announced before walking in. She held an invitation to the wedding of Lady Anastasia and Lady Selene. The invitation was beautiful, it was pink with white lace, and a white seal that stamped their families seal. This is perfect, it seems like this is only the middle of the story. During this ball, I must not stand out, nor gain any attention from Anastasia or Selene if I want to survive.
