Chapter 3 - Hellsfall Academy

Torvane Ironglass slept until the morning.

After cleaning himself, he put on his finest clothing.

End of Fate was set in the fictional world, Galgorth, which currently sat in an era that resembled Victorian.

He dressed smart, and topped it off with a black long coat that reached his knees.

Torvane had the [Fashionable] trait, which kept him well dressed. That included slicking his brown hair back with gel.

Then, with a final deep breath, he stepped out of his chambers.

Patricielle stood there awaiting him. As she spotted her master, she bowed her head low.

"Breakfast is ready, my Lord."

"..."

This will be strange to get used to. No more breakfasts with just me and Marshall.

Torvane kept a straight face and looked down at the cute black haired maid.

"Lead the way."

---

Torvane's palace was separate from Hellsfall Academy.

Though they were both located on the face of a mountain, space needed to be kept between them.

After all, the palace contained many valuable items. Some that were still secret to the human empire.

The students and other professors of the school lived in the academy itself.

...

Torvane had long since abandoned his family to run the academy. For this reason, he ate breakfast alone.

It was a splendid meal, cooked by the greatest chefs he had access to.

Once done, a figure entered the room with perfect timing.

It was a young man wearing a black Victorian suit, a steel sword on his waist, and a longsword on his back. His hair was jet black and flowed as long as a woman's would.

This man was Thorian Gloomhell. Torvane's assisting professor, and master swordsman.

It felt good seeing the man. After all, he was one of the few characters who didn't want to see him dead.

"Master." Thorian greeted respectfully, bowing his head. "The students wait in Hellsfall Hall for your attendance."

Already?

Torvane kept his nerves in check, which was easy with help from his trait [Composed].

Over the night, he had thought diligently on how he could ensure his survival.

His first idea was that he had to become stronger.

Currently ranked high-gold, meant that there was still much more room for progression. Not to mention, he had yet to awaken a subclass, which would push his strength to even greater heights.

However, Torvane was an intelligent man.

With planning, he might be able to wipe out one of the current threats easily.

Afterwards, he could focus on powering up.

Torvane rose to his feet and nodded his head towards his Assistant Professor, Thorian.

"Well, let's get going then."

---

Outside of his palace, lead directly to a pathway carved into the face of Hades Volcano.

Their heights stretched so far into the sky, that they walked above the clouds.

In the distance, he could see another giant building built inside the face of the volcano.

Hellsfall Academy, made from the finest stone. Ahead of it, the pathway continued up to the volcano's peak.

That was the most important location. The place where his plan would unfold.

Soon...

With no wasted time, he made his way to the large entrance of Hellsfall Academy with Thorian beside him.

Before even pushing the door open, he could feel his death sense skill working diligently. He could sense the two separate sources' intention to kill him.

Then... he pushed open the doors and stepped inside.

At first, he was met with loud, excited chatter. It was rare to be accepted into the prestigious Hellsfall Academy, so it only made sense.

However, those who were wise went silent as soon as the doors opened.

Others continued talking.

Torvane Ironglass stood there, eyes glancing around the large halls with stretching ceilings, lined by marble pillars.

A hundred stood in rows organised by the few professors spread throughout the edges of the room.

Those who fell silent stood there, watching the Master Professor arrive.

Those that didn't go silent...

"Send them back."

His sharp words forced the room into complete and utter silence. Those who spoke before, now had their mouths zipped, and their eyes went wide as they caught sight of Torvane.

But it was too late, Torvane spoke again.

"Send those who still spoke after my arrival back to their homes. They are here to make friends, not prepare for a war against the elves." His voice echoed throughout the halls. "Now."

His final word snapped the professors into action.

It was their job to keep their eyes on the students, so they were able to tell who was and wasn't following orders.

"Wait, please, no!"

"I'll be silent, I swear!"

"Give us another chance!"

Around the room, twenty students were hauled from the hall. They would be sent to their dorms to collect their items and make their way back down the volcano.

Torvane did this for two reasons.

First, the war was serious. The Academy had limited spaces, and he needed to ensure that he had the perfect students if he wanted to raise them into powerful warriors of the human nation.

The second reason was that he hoped by chance, Elyis would have been one of the students talking.

He could have her sent back to the realm of the elves before she had a chance to try and kill him.

He swiftly realised that he was not so lucky.

As Torvane made his way around the room, feet tapping against the stone floor whilst his eyes scanned the remaining figures in the room, he noticed many noteworthy men and women.

Elan of the Morrowind family, a mid-silver battle-mage with a quest for revenge.

Irdulamor of the Brave family, a low-silver human mage with a dual-affinity talent.

Tavric of the Breaklore family, a high-silver Paladin, a twelve-year-old who already stands taller than most men.

But two figures stood out to him most.

First, was his niece, Julianor Redheart.

Torvane's eyes met hers only for a moment, but their exchange shared a thousand words. Despite her low rank and small frame, she carried a desire for revenge that set off his death sense.

And on the other side of the room, a blonde-haired woman with a calm face, green eyes, and rounded ears despite being an elf.

She didn't look at Torvane, perhaps afraid that her cover would be blown, but it did not matter.

He could sense his death from a mile away.

After marching round the room for a while, he finally made his way to the head of the hall, where he stood on a staircase, making sure he was raised above the students.

His dark eyes glared over them all equally, and he sensed fear and power amongst them.

Then, after a few moments, he finally spoke.

"Students, welcome to Hellsfall Academy. I am your Master, Torvane Ironglass... and I will be issuing you a test."
