"When is this school day ever going to end?" I sigh to myself, looking outside the window. "Why can't I just stay at home?''. My name is Katsu Nagano, and I am currently a 2nd-year student at Matsugaya Senior High School, a prestigious place of learning and the place where the so-called princess studies, who is known as Akari Natsuki, a beautiful, blue hair, respected girl that everyone loves and worships. She is our school's idol, especially for the boys. Anyone would be lucky to date a beauty like her, but for an otaku like me, there's no way she would be interested in me. I'm just a background character, and I want it to stay that way. Hours pass by, and finally the lunch bell rings.
''Say ahhhh Minorin'' the girl behind me says while feeding her boyfriend, ''ahhhh, mhm, it's delicious as always, Yui-chan'',
I get my lunch from my bag,leave the classroom, and head towards the school roof.
"Dating is pointless; it's just a waste of time." I mumble to myself that I would never want to date a real girl, but the only one I would ever date and confess my love to is my favourite streamer, Shizuka-chan, a positive, funny, and kind streamer that just makes you want to never stop watching her; she's an angel that brings light to the world. Right now, I just want to stay home and watch Shizuka-chan's live streams instead of studying.
"I miss you, Shizuka-chan; I really want to see your smile," I sigh to myself.
I arrive at the rooftop and sit down in my secret spot where no one else knows about it, pull out my phone from my pocket, and open Towch, hoping that Shizuka-chan is streaming, but unfortunately she isn't. I put my phone down, look at the sky, and start eating my lunch.
"I wish I could meet you, Shizuka-chan, but I already know that's not possible". I think to myself.
After I finish my lunch, I get my lunchbox and head back towards the classroom.
"You look depressed again. Katsu, what's up? Are you thinking about that streamer girl again?" Minori says,
''she's called Shizuka-chan! not a streamer girl. How many times do I have to tell you, Minori? '' I replied back to him.
I've been friends with Minori Miyamoto ever since I enrolled in Matsugaya, and he's the only one who knows how much I like watching Shizuka-chan.
"Ah, my bad, I won't forget'' Minori sighs
but I know for a fact that he will forget it again; it's been 15 times now.
''How's lunch being fed by your girlfriend again?'' I say to him boorishly.
"It was delicious being fed by her, and eating her lunch every day is like a dream come true. You should get yourself a girlfriend too Katsu, so you can also experience it''. He replies, full smug face.
''No, dating is pointless. I'm happy eating food by myself and I have my own functional limbs'' I reply sternly
''Whatever you say man, you do you, but you really need to stop dreaming about dating that Shizuka streamer like you don't even know how she looks in real life'' Minori refutes.
Even though Minori can be a pain in the neck, he's sometimes right. I need to face reality because no one knows Shizuka-chan's real identity and we know nothing about her real personality, but that will never stop me from supporting her. School finally ends, and I start putting my books in my bag, preparing to leave.
"Katsu, wanna walk home together? It's been a while..''
But before Minori can finish speaking, his girlfriend interrupts, holding his arm.
"Minori-kun, let's walk home together''
"But me and Katsu were about to-'' Minori tried explaining.
"It's fine. Walk with your girlfriend; I'm going to the gym anyway, and I don't want to be a third wheel."
"Alright, then another time; see you tomorrow, Katsu'' Minori says this while walking away with Tanaka-san. I get my bag,exit out of the classroom, leave the school grounds, and head towards my local gym. I start walking past the shops, seeing lots of students hanging out and having fun with their friends. As I carry on walking, I start to hear someone shouting in an isolated alley ahead. I walk towards it to see what the commotion is about, and I see a group of men surrounding someone. I looked and recognized the uniform. It was our school uniform. I went a little closer to see, and then I realised who it was. It was our school princess, Akari Natsuki.
Ehhh? What's Natsuki-senpai doing here? Is she meeting up with hoodlums? No, no, no, there's no way she would. Then is she in danger? Or is she 'the' danger?.
"Well, look who we have here, a nice, pretty high schooler'' the unknown men say while laughing,
"Want to come and hang out with us, Missy?" One of them says
."Can you please move out of my way, kind sirs?'' Natsuki-san says confidently,
"Huh? Did she just call these hoodlums kind? Is she out of her mind?'' I thought to myself. One of the men held down her arms. "I don't think you have a choice; it's not a negotiation; it's a command''.
Natsuki-senpai starts to look afraid; her eyes look like she's seeking help.
"Someone help, anyone help!'' she shouts.
"You think someone will help you, let alone hear you?" the other chimes in
My body starts to move by itself but my mind hesitates to decide the best course of action.
I take a deep breath. "Hey! You three sacks of monkey droppings step away from her!'' I shout profusely.
"Well I'll be damned, someone's here with quite the mouth too '' one of the guys mockingly said.
"Do you want that to be your last words or do you want to keep living with a functional voicebox?'' I say to them. I take off my blazer and loosen my tie, already set to fight.
One of them starts to run towards me and tries to land a punch. I step to the side so his arm rests on my shoulder, grab his neck and belt, stick a foot out and use that foot to sweep him and slam him on the ground. I follow him down and as he is dazed from the impact, I slap him unconscious.
"If you don't want to end up like your friend here or worse than your friend here, you will leave the girl and head back to whatever dumpster you live in" I say confidently.
"YOU COCKY BASTARD!!!'' They both run towards me. I managed to dodge and parry some of their sloppy attacks, however they still managed to land some, but for Natsuki-senpai's sake, I could not give in so easily .I took some steps away and got into a slight running position. I rush in to kick one guy away first, making them separate for a bit. I grapple the one closest to me and knee him in the stomach. As he keels over I grab his head and slam him down on the floor.
The last guy frantically searches his pockets. He pulls out a knife. He holds it tightly and very shakily
"YOU WILL PAY FOR THAT!!'' he shouts, as he cautiously closes in on me.
"Run away! He's got a weapon!' Natsuki-senpai shouts.
A eureka moment hits my brain. I hastily grab the knife by the blade not caring for what it does to my hand. He tries to jam the blade into my sides. I respond by clutching the blade even tighter and pulling the blade to my hip. My free hand grabs him by the collar, I lean my head back a bit and smash it forward into his skull causing him to collapse and loosen his grip on the knife.
I drop the blade, exhale and walk to Natsuki-senpai
"Are you alright, Natsuki-senpai? You're not hurt, are you?'' I checked on her.
"No, I'm alright, you saved me from being abducted but your hand…" she points out.
There is a puddle of blood below my hand which drips with huge beads of it.
"Don't worry, I won't die from it, besides it's better that I caught the blade and stayed there whilst you ran off" I assure her.
She looks at me with a mouth agape.
I then realize that I don't ever speak like that. I jolt back a bit and turn my back to her as I reach for my handkerchief to wrap around my wound.
We call the police, and they arrive at once to arrest the heinous men. Then Natsuki-senpai taps me on the shoulder and asks, "I'm sorry, I don't even know your name. That blazer… You're a student from Matsugaya High, right?''
"Y-yes, my name is Katsu Nagano. I'm in class 2-B''. I reply
"Oh, class 2-B? I'm in class 3-A, my fellow junior,'' says Senpai.
"Mhm, I already know that, Senpai. "You're our school's princess. There isn't anyone that doesn't know you,'' I say to her, laughing awkwardly.
"You're pretty strong, Nagano-kun. Do you train a lot?" She asks me.
"Yeah, I go to the gym every day after school, and I used to do Judo a couple years ago, " I answered swiftly, leaving no detail spared.
"That's impressive," she says.
I look at the time and realise I will be late for my training session, so I quickly grab my blazer and my bag.
"I have to go now, Senpai. I am going to be late for my gym training, make sure you arrive home safely''
I hurriedly departed.
"Thank you again, Nagano-kun. I'll make sure to return the favour properly. Goodbye''. I panicked and ran to the gym.
