Chapter 69 - New Life DxD- Chapter 67

Gilgamesh nodded.

"And the one responsible for the theft was Kokabiel of the Fallen Angels," Irina said.

"So you were sent to recover the three Fragments," Gilgamesh said, receiving a nod from them.

"Are you sure that's enough to defeat a Cadre?" Arthur asked, certain they couldn't beat the Fallen Angel.

Xenovia looked at Arthur seriously.

"You don't need to worry; we can defend ourselves," Xenovia said, pulling out her Excalibur and placing it on her lap.

Gilgamesh looked at Xenovia seriously.

"Don't let your pride cloud your judgment, Xenovia. Kokabiel isn't someone just anyone can defeat. He's one of the leaders of the Fallen Angels and was one of God's strongest soldiers," Gilgamesh said seriously.

Xenovia gave an embarrassed look.

"Sorry, senpai," Xenovia said sincerely.

Irina laughed a bit at this, as the only people Xenovia listened to were Gilgamesh and Griselda.

Irina and Xenovia had met Gilgamesh when he arrived at the Church, and they quickly became friends. Both always had great respect and admiration for the Strongest Exorcist.

Both also always had a crush on the golden exorcist—Xenovia due to her admiration for him, though she still couldn't express her feelings.

Irina also liked Gilgamesh. In the past, she had a crush on her best friend Issei, but her time at the Church with Gilgamesh made her fall for the strongest exorcist.

Both were very sad when he left the Church but understood the reasons of their best friend and mentor.

"That's why we'd like to ask for your help. With you by our side, Kokabiel would be defeated easily," Irina said, receiving a nod from Xenovia.

They might not know the full extent of Gilgamesh's power since it had been a long time since they last saw their best friend, but they knew he was a literal monster on the battlefield.

Gilgamesh was known as the Strongest Exorcist for a reason; his power was said in the Church to surpass even the Four Seraphs combined.

He was known for devastating entire armies with just his fists and held power capable of rivaling Gods.

"Well, I'll help you. After all, Gabriel asked me to," Gilgamesh said, smiling.

Xenovia nodded along with Irina, the latter feeling the affection in Gilgamesh's voice when he mentioned the Strongest Woman in Heaven.

Many in the Church knew and supported Gabriel's love for Gilgamesh, though Irina and Xenovia felt a bit jealous, as they couldn't compare to Gabriel in beauty or power.

"I'm surprised you haven't been turned into Angels," Gilgamesh said, surprised.

After he gave the Brave Saints to Gabriel, the Angels replicated them and reincarnated many into their ranks, increasing their strength. Something Gilgamesh had improved in these cards was that those reincarnated as Angels couldn't fall due to sins, remaining Angels forever.

---

That's why great care was taken when choosing who to reincarnate.

And so, it was surprising that Irina, who wielded a Fragment of Excalibur, and Xenovia, who possessed Durandal, hadn't been reincarnated.

"Well, we were told we'd be given time for that and would only be reincarnated when we turn 17," Irina said to Gilgamesh.

Gilgamesh nodded, as that made sense, since deciding to become an Angel was permanent, and Irina and Xenovia were currently sixteen years old.

"So, you'll stay here until you complete this mission," Gilgamesh said to the two, who showed surprise.

"Thank you so much, Gilgamesh-senpai," Xenovia said with a small smile, and Irina had the same.

"Now, I think we should talk to the demons in the city, right, Xenovia?" Irina said as she stood up.

"Yes," Xenovia said seriously.

"I'll go with you," Gilgamesh said to the two, who nodded.

Gilgamesh turned his gaze to Arthur.

"Can you inform everyone for me?" Gilgamesh asked Arthur.

"Not a problem," Arthur said, nodding.

Gilgamesh stood up and looked at the two.

"Let's go," Gilgamesh said as he left, and the two followed.

Some Time Later.

Occult Research Club, Kuoh Academy.

Currently, in the Occult Research Club, a very tense atmosphere could be felt in the room.

On one side were Irina and Xenovia sitting on the couch, Irina with a small smile while Xenovia had a serious face.

On the opposite side were two High-Class Demons, Sona and Rias. Both were dressed in school uniforms, observing the two exorcists and Gilgamesh with calm faces.

Both Sona's and Rias's peerages stood in the corner of the room, lined up as they would during a formal meeting with their king. Even Akeno and Tsubaki were no exception this time, standing in the same place with the other nobles.

There was no doubt that everyone was very nervous and cautious, except for Gilgamesh, who seemed indifferent. Even the High-Class Demons felt the same. Of course, they tried to hide it, but my eyes could see through their façade of calm.

It couldn't be helped; those Excalibur Fragments, though fragile, still held power capable of killing even an Ultimate-Class Devil if wielded by a skilled and professional user.

But among the demons, one caught my attention. It was Kiba; the Prince of Kuoh's appearance radiated pure malice and hatred. He was glaring at the group of exorcists with ill intent. If something happened… No. He looked ready to attack them at any moment.

Gilgamesh obviously knew the source of his hatred for the Excaliburs, which Gilgamesh considered foolish.

After all, he hated a sword, and a sword couldn't kill anyone on its own—it needed to be wielded for that.

"Before we begin, may I ask why Gilgamesh-san is here?" Rias asked, looking at the King of Heroes.

Gilgamesh was seated in a chair slightly apart from the two couches, observing everyone.

---

"I'm here to make sure none of you kill each other," Gilgamesh stated bluntly, and they looked at him. "Remember, I'm not on your side. I'm playing a neutral role here," Gilgamesh said.

Irina and Xenovia grimaced at this; Gilgamesh was supposed to be on their side as an exorcist, but he had already explained to them that he was neutral.

"And yet you live here," Rias pointed out.

"As far as I recall, this is Japan's land, originally a place for human life," Gilgamesh retorted, making her eyebrow twitch. Gilgamesh noticed Xenovia giving him an approving look, so he turned to them. "Say what you want quickly," Gilgamesh told them.

Both nodded.

"Recently, the holy swords Excaliburs kept by the Vatican's headquarters—the Catholic Church, the Protestant Church, and the Eastern Orthodox Church—were stolen," Irina said to everyone.

"The Excalibur itself doesn't exist," Rias said.

"I'm sorry. One of my servants recently became a demon, so can we continue this conversation by explaining about Excalibur?" Rias asked, and Irina Shidou agreed to the request.

"Ise-kun, Excalibur broke in the war long ago," Irina said to her childhood friend, who looked at it in shock.

"Now, it looks like this," Xenovia said, pulling her sword from her back and removing the cloth covering it.

It was a sword that looked like a two-handed sword with a hilt long enough to be held with three hands, featuring a cross on the guard. It had an axe-shaped guard and a second chain-shaped grip connecting the guard to the blade, with the blade itself being massive and long, ending in three points.

The moment the demons saw the sword, a shiver ran down everyone's spine.

"The Excalibur I have is Excalibur Destruction. It's one of the seven holy swords created. The Catholic Church controls this one," Xenovia said, wrapping her sword in cloth again.

Irina also pulled out something that looked like a long rope. The rope began to move as if it were alive… The rope changed shape before my eyes and transformed into a katana.

"Mine is Excalibur Mimic. I can change its shape into anything I want, so it's very convenient to carry. As it stands, each Excalibur has its unique ability. This one is in the possession of the Protestant Church," she said proudly.

Out of the corner of his eye, Gilgamesh caught Kiba's expression growing wilder, his fist clenched in anger.

"So, what do the stolen Excaliburs have to do with this country in the east of the world?" Sona asked curiously.

"The Catholic Church was in possession of two Excaliburs, including mine. The Protestant Church also had two. The Eastern Orthodox Church had two as well. The last one disappeared in the previous war between God, demons, and fallen angels. One Excalibur was stolen from each Church. Those who stole them fled to Japan and brought them to this city," Xenovia informed seriously.

"It seems my territory is full of incidents. So, who stole the Excaliburs?" Rias asked, resting her head on her arm.

"It was the Grigori."

The demons widened their eyes at that moment.

"The holy swords were taken by the fallen angels' organization? No doubt about it. But surely, it must be the fallen angels who stole them. For high-class demons, holy swords aren't of much interest," Rias said seriously.

---

"We know that the main culprit behind the theft of the Excaliburs is one of the Grigori leaders, Kokabiel," Xenovia informed.

"Our request… No. Our order is that no demons interfere in the battle between us and the fallen angels over the Excaliburs. In other words, we came here to tell you not to interfere in this incident," Xenovia said.

Rias's eyes changed after hearing the way Xenovia spoke.

"That tone. Is it a restriction? Are you thinking we might collaborate with the fallen angels? That we might join them to do something with the Excaliburs?"

"The headquarters thinks that's not impossible."

Both began to argue, Rias and Xenovia, which started to annoy Gilgamesh a bit.

"The higher-ups don't trust demons or fallen angels. We were ordered that if the holy swords were taken from God's side, then demons would also be happy to have them? Fallen angels could profit from it too. For these reasons, it wouldn't be strange for them to form an alliance with you. That's why we're giving you a warning. If you form an alliance with Kokabiel, the leader of the fallen angels, we'll eliminate all of you. Even if you're the younger sister of a Maou, according to our boss."

Xenovia said casually, unconcerned with the glint in Rias's eyes.

"...If you know I'm the sister of a Maou, then that means you have a lot of connections with the Church's higher-ups. So, I'll say this: We won't form an alliance with the fallen angels. Never. In the name of the Gremory house, I won't do something that would tarnish our Maou's name!"

Xenovia laughed.

"Fu. Hearing that is good enough. I had to warn you just in case Kokabiel is hiding in the city with three Excaliburs. If something happens, I'd be the one hated by the bunch at Church headquarters. Well, we won't ask for cooperation."

"You want to recover the Excaliburs from the leader of the fallen angels with just the two of you? That's reckless. Are you trying to die?"

Rias said in a shocked voice. But Irina Shidou and Xenovia said with firm eyes:

"Yes."

"I share Irina's opinion, but if possible, I don't want to die."

"...You came to Japan prepared to die? Your belief in your doctrine is extreme, as always."

"Don't speak ill of our beliefs, Rias Gremory."

"Right. The Church also decided it would be better for us to eliminate all the Excaliburs at once rather than leave them in the hands of the fallen angels. Our minimum goal is to retrieve the Excaliburs from the fallen angels. To achieve that, it's fine for us to die. The only way to fight Excaliburs is with other Excaliburs."

"You seem confident. Do you have a secret weapon?" Sona asked seriously.

"Maybe. I'll leave that to your imagination," Xenovia said.

At that moment, Gilgamesh intervened.

"Alright, enough. They'll have permission to handle their matter and won't interfere with yours, Gremory-san and Sitri-san," Gilgamesh said seriously.

"Very well," Sona said, receiving a nod from Rias.

"Alright, senpai," Xenovia said, receiving a nod from Irina.

---

All the demons turned their surprised gazes to Gilgamesh.

"You know them?" Rias asked, surprised and cautious.

Gilgamesh looked at her impassively.

"They called me senpai, Rias. What do you think?" Gilgamesh asked.

"...You were with the Church," Sona said,

quickly deducing, to everyone's shock.

"Yes, that was some time ago. I left, but Xenovia and Irina are my friends," Gilgamesh said seriously.

Then a cold, rage-filled voice spoke.

"Your friend, then."
