On the hill of Sōkyoku, the breeze brushed lightly across every face, but no one dared to speak. They all knew the truth of it. Yamamoto Genryūsai stood like a barrel of gunpowder ready to ignite at the slightest spark, and no one wished to be the one to set him off. The atmosphere dropped to a suffocating stillness, every breath heavy as steel.
"Captain, I assure you that everything I have just said is true," Shiraha spoke calmly. "If you doubt me, you may confirm it later with Captain Unohana, Captain Kyōraku, and Captain Jūshirō."
A faint smile touched his lips. None had expected it—the man they thought long dead, Aizen Sōsuke, revealed as the mastermind. His Zanpakutō's true ability was stranger, more insidious, than they had ever imagined. It was no exaggeration to call it unnatural. Only now did they understand why Shiraha had chosen silence until this moment.
If Aizen released Kyōka Suigetsu within Seireitei, who could resist? The captains and lieutenants had all been caught once before, a century ago, under its perfect hypnosis. Once his blade was released, not even Yamamoto could perceive truth from illusion. Should Ryūjin Jakka's Bankai be unleashed under such deception, Soul Society itself might be reduced to cinders.
"Shiraha, then for what purpose did Tōsen and Ichimaru seize Rukia?" Byakuya Kuchiki asked at last, his voice as calm as ice.
The thought struck all of them. Aizen, Gin, and Tōsen had lived in secrecy for decades. Why expose themselves now, risking everything for one girl? What did Rukia carry that Aizen deemed worth so much?
"Brother, I do not know for certain," Shiraha replied evenly. He concealed the truth of the Hōgyoku, choosing silence over revelation. If Yamamoto or the others learned of its nature, of what it could do, the consequences would shake Soul Society itself.
Byakuya's sharp gaze did not soften. "Then why, knowing this was Aizen's conspiracy, did you not expose it sooner?"
"Have you forgotten?" Shiraha's smile held a trace of irony. "Aizen's Zanpakutō is the most dangerous of all. Even if I myself am not affected, what of the rest of you? Once ensnared by Kyōka Suigetsu, even Captains Kyōraku and Ukitake could not perceive truth. Not even Captain Unohana. Not even the Captain-Commander himself."
Byakuya frowned, his silence admission enough.
Yamamoto Genryūsai finally lifted his gaze, eyes sharp as blades. "Captain Shiraha. I do not know how you came upon such knowledge. But since Unohana, Shunsui, and Jūshirō have vouched for you, this old man shall trust you as well."
The string of events laid out too cleanly to ignore: the betrayal of Tōsen, Gin, and Aizen, the manipulation of Central 46, the false death that deceived all of Soul Society. Even the Hollowfication incident a century ago, and the disappearances that followed, bore their mark. The massacre within the Maggot's Nest that forced Shiraha into the world of the living—likely their doing as well.
Their ambitions ran deeper than anyone had guessed.
"Thank you for your trust, Captain." Shiraha bowed slightly, his expression steady.
"Since you alone are immune to Kyōka Suigetsu, I permit you to take the field with the other captains." Yamamoto's voice rolled like distant thunder.
"Yes, Captain." Shiraha's answer was crisp.
Within his mind, the familiar system prompt rang. Sign-in task: Survive for five minutes against Aizen, Tōsen, and Ichimaru simultaneously. Reward: Gojo Satoru template progress +2%.
"It has come at last," Shiraha thought, a quiet resolve sharpening within him. Completion of this task would bring the Gojo template to its final stage. When Aizen fused the two Hōgyoku into one, Shiraha would be ready—ready to claim the complete orb, unlock his third template, and awaken his own Zanpakutō at last.
"Shunsui, Jūshirō, Kuchiki—go with Captain Shiraha," Yamamoto commanded, his eyes flashing with killing intent. "Expel Aizen and his conspirators from Soul Society. If you have the chance to kill them, do not hesitate. Strike without mercy."
The room trembled under the force of his words. Yamamoto had chosen not to move personally. He knew too well the nature of his own power. If Ryūjin Jakka's Bankai were unleashed, even in victory, the cost would be catastrophic. Better to strike with precision, to drive Aizen out and wait for the proper moment to destroy him. Yet, if fate offered a chance to kill him outright, no one was to let it slip.
"I understand," Byakuya said coolly, though in the depths of his eyes lingered the shadow of his worry for Rukia.
"Ah, ah, the old man is as decisive as ever," Shunsui murmured, tugging his bamboo hat lower with a faint smile.
Ukitake, however, said nothing. His gaze lingered on the Fifth Division's barracks, heavy with conflict.
Save for Shiraha and Byakuya, the other two were captains of centuries past, veterans who had seen betrayal before. Now, together, they walked once again toward it.
"Leader of the Court Guard, I will go on ahead," Shiraha said lightly, casting them a brief smile before vanishing with Cang, leaving nothing but the faint ripple of reiryoku in the air.
"Well then, Jūshirō, Kuchiki," Shunsui said cheerfully, though his eyes sharpened, "shall we not let him have all the glory?"
The three captains disappeared in bursts of shunpō, rushing toward the Fifth Division.
In the open courtyard of its barracks—normally a silent and unused space—three figures stood waiting. At their feet lay Rukia, unconscious, pale against the stone.
Aizen's hand reached into her chest, withdrawing the small, radiant orb that had been sealed within her soul. The Hōgyoku shimmered faintly in his palm. He studied it with a scholar's fascination before tucking it into his robes, a satisfied smile curving his lips.
"So this is the Hōgyoku forged by Urahara Kisuke. At last, it is mine."
"Captain Aizen," Ichimaru Gin's ever-narrowed eyes opened just a fraction, their sharp gleam betraying surprise. His hands slid into his sleeves, tone deceptively casual as he smiled. "Rukia's of no more use now. Do you really mean to kill her?"
