SUSAN
"Called. On way." Natalie squeezed her eyes shut. Sweat beaded her face. "Gotta push."
"Don't push!" Susan and Ross yelled together.
Natalie opened her eyes. Then she looked down. So did Susan. A big wet stain crept across the couch.
"W-what's happening? Why is the couch wet?" Ross managed to stumble over and was staring at Ronda with a mixture of horror and concern.
"Her water broke."
"That can't be good."
Natalie's face scrunched and she let loose a sound so fierce, Susan imagined that warriors yelled the same way when they went into battle. Susan had been with Natalie when her water broke at the hardware store.
She had Andie in the backroom much to the dismay of the owner and to the delight of his wife, who had been, thank God, a retired nurse.
Before Susan questioned her own actions, she bent down and took a peek under the afghan. Oh boy. Or girl. In any case, they were about to find out.
"Go get some hot water, soap, and towels," ordered Susan.
