Chapter 12 - Doubling Gold Doubles Trouble

Luan stopped the door before it opened too widely, halting its progress with a firm grip on the rim. He held the knife he kept near the door in his other hand, hidden behind himself as he looked at the uninvited visitor.

To say it was a surprise would be like trying to use a balloon as a shield against a man with a gun. There were no words that could explain who Luan had found opening his front door.

Mr. Eye candy, as Luan had aptly named him the previous night, was standing before him, one hand on the door, no doubt having been used to push it open a moment prior. He was dressed in the clothes from yesterday, sunglasses still maring Luan's view of his eyes as he looked down at him. Yes, as much as Luan wanted to hate it, this man was definitely much taller than himself, and he seemed rather adept at using that to loom over anyone he might come across that got in his way.

Luan felt his mouth open in surprise, eyes blinking as he tried to find a reason for this man showing up on his doorstep, with a key to it no less. His suspicious nature forced him to stand his ground, keeping the door as closed as possible with that large hand still holding it open.

"Can I….help you?" He asked, head tilting as his brows wrinkled a bit in thought. Eyes watching the man's other hand like it might jump towards him at any moment.

The man tilted his head, as if mirroring Luan's own, as he no doubt studied him behind those impenetrable glasses. Luan noticed the hand at his side twitch, like he wanted to grab something, and he gripped the hidden knife harder.

"No need to worry, little flower. I'm just here to get what's mine." It was the push that seemed to stem from a bottomless well that sent the door flying open fully, mitigating Luan's efforts as though he had no muscles to prevent the action at all. His eyes widened as he looked at the large piece of wood. Then he looked down at his arm, wondering how the muscles there had proved completely useless.

The muscles near his head, holding the door completely open as though it were a feather, caught his eye, and he realized it was probably just the fact this man was a freak of nature. Luan sighed, a little jealous, and then he glared up at the man, knife pointing towards those obscured eyes threateningly.

"And what would that be?" he asked, blocking the view of the room as much as possible with the differences in their sizes.

Luan was usually pretty good in a fight, especially when he had a weapon. This guy, though, acted like that didn't matter, with the way he disarmed him in a couple of seconds. A flash of silvery metal as it flicked out of his grip, the man swiping it from the air like it didn'/ have a pointy end that could cut. Then he started pushing inside, pushing Luan aside like he weighed nothing.

Luan, of course, felt mildly perturbed at the ease with which this man treated him, as though he couldn't possibly beat him in a fight.

Probably not, Luan had never gone up against someone of this caliber, but he bet he could still give him a run for his money.

And he was fully prepared to beat him to a pulp, chances of winning be damned, as he bypassed his stumbling form.

Except for the fact that Mira picked that moment to speak, and Luan had to pause with the word she chose.

"Papa!"

A simple word, something one would normally let relax them, in the case of strange men approaching small children. And though Luan really should be afraid, the first thing his screwed up brain registered was the anger he'd locked away. Not that it hadn't just been fed with the abrupt entering the man did, but still. He had meant for it to fester a bit longer.

Dante Jin was in his living room, and he was currently throwing a fist at his jaw. Surprisingly, he managed to make contact, Dante himself looking more thrown off then he should. His hand came up to nurse the side Luan had hit, looking over at him as he did. It was the smile that crawled to his face, teeth way too pointy to be natural, that made Luan want to hit him again.

"Did I do something to you?" He asked, as though there were no real reason Luan could have to want to hurt the man. And sure, Luan had made the first move, taking his daughter. Dante had made a trade, been more than fair in the process, which should make them even.

But after last night, Luan was really mad at this man.

"It's for you being a crappy father, Dante Jin." Luan hissed the name between his teeth, glare that could kill never leaving his face as he went between the two of them.

"Mommy, you shouldn't hit people." Mira piped up from the side, as though she had a real say, and Luan leveled a slightly softer glare her way.

"I'm not your mother, and he deserved it." He replied, going back to the man in front who was watching them interact the entire time. Nothing was getting through those glasses, though, and Luan was getting a bit fed up with the situation.

He really wanted to rip those things off, if only to see what he was thinking more clearly.

And like the completely in control person he was, Luan gave in to the urge and went for them.

And Dante let him, gold coming into complete view, a small smirk on his lips as he looked down at him.

"Better?" He asked softly, hand wrapping around Luans where he held the glasses, completely dwarfing his in comparison.

Compared to Miras eyes, bright and shiny like a golden stars, Dantes looked more like a dark, liquid gold, red flecks dancing around the Iris as they sucked him in.

Luan was going to take his hand back, rather rudely at that, but then he felt a much smaller one grab his other hand. Looking down, he found Mira had come closer, brown droplets of chocolate dripping down her chin as she smiled up at him.

"Mira." He whispered, eyes softening at the way she failed to read the room. She really was stupid, even if she claimed otherwise.

There was a moment of silence, before Luans glare returned, meeting the gold once more as he looked back up at Dante.

"If you ever let her get kidnapped again, I will kill you, Dante Jin. " Though there was bite to his words, Luan felt like he really wasn't projecting enough killing intent with the way Dante smiled.

"And how the hell did you get a key to my house, you freak?!" Now he was getting back on topic, taking his hand away from the large warmth that had been uninvited to begin with.

Dante looked down at him, eyes still seeming impossible to read as he answered.

"I always get what I want. Keys are no problem. And Mira will always be safe with me, Luan." He looked down at him, completely at ease in the situation as Luan's eyes narrowed.

The way Dante used his name, as though they were somehow close, made Luan want to rip his slanting eyes out and turn them into pendants on a chain.

If only life were so easy.

"Don't worry, papa will pertect me, mommy." Mira patted Luans shoulder as she stood on the couch, tiptoes coming into play as she barely managed to reach.

Luan looked back at her, forgeting for a moment that you should never turn your back on an enemy, no matter how untgreatening they've been. He feelt a large hand ruffle through his hair, pulling on the roots a bit before sliding down to his neck..

Luan shuddered, snapping back to Dante who looked way too innocent as he walked around him, hand slipping away when he did.

"Time to go home, princess. You can see mommy later."

Scooping Mira up into his large arms, he kissed her forehead softly, using one of the napkins to wipe off the mess on her face, before he turned to leave.

Despite his best efforts, Luan felt warmth on his face when he heard what Dante said, mouth opening as he tried to say something to dissuade this new nickname he'd somehow picked up. And when did he agree for Dante to take Mira?

"Wait…!" He started, only to receive a look over Dante's shoulder. It was all teeth, a smile that screamed predator, eyes glinting as he continued walking. If he wasn't blushing before, he definitely was now. The fact it came from a man like that just made him want to give up on life, not sure he was even capable of his little revenge plan when he couldn't even keep his composure against a dominant alpha like Dante. If ever one were to be at the apex, that was the kind of man he'd be. And Luan hated him for it, being so natural in his predatory existence.

He fell back onto the couch, limbs feeling weak as he saw his door close behind them, the lock clicking back into place as if it had never been opened to begin with.

What just happened? And why the hell wasn't he dead. It was at that moment Luan remembered the punch. He'd punched the most dangerous man in the city, and got almost molested as retribution. That hand had wandered way too close to his scent gland for comfort, borderline law breaking in its suggestive quest.

He shivered, a flush lighting his neck and cheeks as he tried to brush the feeling away, hand rubbing at the tainted area. And his hair! The man touched his hair!

No one was allowed to touch his hair!!!

Luan was seething in a pit of anger and disgusting arousal. And he hated the fact that he almost didn't hate it.

Disgusting, indeed.

If he had it his way, he would never meet that man again.

Should Mira be suffering, he would just go with the original plan and have someone trusted kidnap and relocate her.

Not that there were many people who fit that category, but he could find someone.

Luan had a feeling getting too close again would make things very complicated.

And he had enough on his plate as it was. He still had to talk to Arlan, and probably had to go to a gala with a disgusting alpha that wanted to enslave and break him.

Really, there was no time for things like Dante and Mira Jin.

Luan was busy. And not interested in the slightest, either, if anyone cared to ask.
