Chapter 3 - Not a Freak Anymore

Victor sat in the government-given dorm room, meditating under the moonlight.

Victor felt soothing energy coursing through his body, washing away his pain.

Victor muttered with a smile, "I think I have grown a little stronger."

He checked his stats by calling the system.

Victor nodded, looking at the system panel, " So that's why I was feeling a little stronger. My strength did increase because of this meditation I have been doing for the whole night."

"My origin magic core also changed!" He exclaimed.

Knock.knock.knock

His thoughts were interrupted by the knocking sound coming from the door.

Victor stood up and opened the door.

His eyes trembled a little when they fell on the person standing on the door.

"Mr. Victor Hans?" A man in a crisp, blinding white uniform stood at the door. "I'm Jack Smith. Your overseer."

Victor froze for the second.

" Mr.Victor!"

"Mr.Victor!"

"…"

Jack sighed and muttered to himself, " Ahh! I don't have much time."

Then stern voice fell on Victor's ears, " Mr.Victor, if you don't respond to the last check-up, I will consider you the person not possessing God's gift and …"

He paused to see if he got the reaction, but there was none. He sighed and continued, " Mr.Victor, you'll be exiled today immediately if you don't respond."

Victor came back to his senses and looked at the man with fear in his eyes.

He invited Jack by moving aside.

Jack stepped inside, nodding.

Jack didn't look around, he instantly turned toward Victor, and looked into his eyes, " Mr.Victor, this is the last inspection, if you haven't awakened the System till now… then there is no hope."

Victor nodded, understanding that after you turn 18years old, it is impossible to get any of God's blessings. Your body won't be able to adapt to the Origin Magic.

Jack continued, "Now, Mr. Victor, can you please tell me if you have awakened the System or not?"

Victor nodded and willed.

The Crimson panel of the system appeared right before them.

Jack's eyes widened as he looked at the crimson panel before his eyes.

Then he sighed and stared at Victor with pity.

" Congratulations, Mr.Victor, for finally awakening the System. Though it is not from the Goddess Gaia's blessing, but from the lesser Gods. Nonetheless, it counts."

Victor nodded at the compliment of the Overseer.

Humans mostly awaken the system with the blue panel, a blessing from the Holy Goddess Gaia.

Jack put his hand on Victor's shoulder and said with a warm smile, "The Military academy exam in Elarion City will be held after one month. You should participate in it, but do remember that you won't be able to get a good rank."

Victor nodded and asked, confused, "Is it because my blessing is not from Gaia?"

Jack nodded, " Yes! Goddess Gaia and Fenrir's blessing are the only blessings effective against the Chaos race".

Jack stepped out of the door after he was done with Victor.

As Jack left, Victor took a relieved sigh, like a heavy weight was taken off his shoulders.

He slumped on his bed and smiled, muttering, " Finally, I'm not going to get exiled."

A sad smile appeared on his face. " Let's go meet them one last time."

Victor stood up and left his dorm room.

After a while, at the outskirts of the Elarion city, He stood before a familiar, white painted house, in front of its white door.

Fresh air felt strange against his skin, and the smell of grass and flowers was very distinct.

Victor looked at the white door, memories flashed through his eyes, memories of when he used to live here as a small kid, unaware of the large world, only playing with Zara.

A nostalgic smile appeared on his face. He shook his head, shaking away his old memories.

He extended his hand toward the golden metal knocker hanging on the white door and knocked.

Knock.knock.knock

A man with grey hair and a wrinkled face opened the door.

The old man's face scrunched up as soon as it fell on Victor.

He asked in an irritated and displeased voice, "What do you want?"

Victor replied with a stiff smile, " Hello, Uncle!"

Old man bellowed, " I'm not your uncle, you freak! Get the hell out of my property !"

Victor remains unfazed.

Victor replied, " I'm just here to tell you that I have awakened the System."

Man's eyes widened, he blurted, "That's impossible!"

Victor's eyes narrowed at that, and he asked with a voice laced with anger, " Why is that impossible?"

The old man came back to his senses and looked at Victor with narrowed eyes, " Did you awaken with the blessings of Goddess Gaia?" He asked.

Victor shook his head with a depressed face.

The old man smiled and exclaimed, " I knew it, a freak like you can't get the Goddess Gaia's blessing."

Hearing the commotion, a girl similar in age to Victor came to the door, and an older woman also came behind her.

The girl with blue hair and blue eyes looked at Victor and smiled sweetly, " Hello Victor!" Her sweet sound was in complete contrast with the old man's.

Victor nodded toward Zara with a sad smile.

Zara's smile bloomed more as thought came to her mind, Victor feels different, like he has changed a lot. His eyes are a little different, too, with the golden hue I never noticed before. His face looks more handsome and a little pale, too.

The old man looked at Zara with narrowed eyes but didn't utter a word.

The older woman, on the other hand, looked at Victor with eyes full of resentment as she bellowed, "What are you doing here, freak?"

Victor looked at her and replied flatly, "I'm just here to tell Uncle that I have awakened the System. That's all, I'm leaving now."

Mrs. Quinn's eyes widened, and her mouth gaped.

Victor already turned and started leaving.

"Victor!" Zara called and came running behind.

Victor stopped in the middle of the stony path.

Zara came near Victor and said with a sweet smile, " I will see you at the Military exam, then?"

Victor nodded without much of a reaction. He knew Zara meant well, but he had been through so much that he couldn't come to trust people now.

Even though Zara was the only one who always took care of him when they were little.

Victor nodded to Zara with a stiff smile and left without saying a word.

Zara kept looking at his back until he completely vanished from her vision.

She turned around, looked at her father and mother with fury in her eyes.

They were good parents, really good and sweet to her since her childhood.

But they were not good people.

Victor used to live with them until the age of eight years, but they threw him out after he wasn't able to wake up the system.

It was understandable because Victor wasn't the family, but her father's life was saved by Mr.Hans, Victor's father.

Mr. Hans was an army officer of a higher rank; his contribution in the war against the Chaos race was tremendous, but he died and left behind a one-year-old son.

The government decided to give Victor under the care of Mr.Quinn because Victor didn't have any other relatives, and his Mother was nowhere to be found.

Mr. Quinn adopted Victor happily at first, only to throw him out at the age of eight years.

Zara didn't even look at her parents and went inside the house, ran upstairs, and slammed shut the door behind her.

She slumped on the bed and looked at the white ceiling, muttered with a smile, " I hope we get to spend more time in the Military academy."

She smiled as she remembered Victor's face.

She whispered, " System!"

The blue panel appeared before her.
