Kai POV
Tobias Bennet settled into the chair across from me, his weathered face showing the strain of the past night's events. He looked tired, older than his years, and I could see the worry lines etched deep around his eyes.
"How is she?" I asked immediately, unable to keep the urgency from my voice. "How is Lily?"
He was probably the third person I was asking the same question today but it didn’t matter. Tobias Bennett didn’t look like he would lie to spare my feelings.
Tobias studied me for a moment, and I wondered what he saw. A heartbroken Alpha? A man still desperately in love with a woman who'd rejected him? Whatever it was, his expression softened with something that might have been sympathy.
"She's safe," Tobias said carefully. "That's the most important thing. Last night was... difficult."
"Tell me what happened," I said, leaning forward. "All of it. I need to know."
