Wren walked to her dorm, her mind racing with thoughts of the trip and the rare mineral she needed to retrieve from the mine. She knew she had to take this night to get the mineral before she left for the trip, and she was determined to make it happen.
The trip was something she hadn't anticipated, and it really threw off her schedule, but she saw it as an opportunity to earn a few hundred thousand points for her laptop.
Taking her materials, Wren booked a night shift bus to New Eden City. As she boarded the bus, she felt a sense of excitement and nervousness. She had preplanned everything ahead, knowing that her height and age would make things difficult.
By the time Wren arrived at New Eden City, it was eight pm sharp, and the streets were bustling with people. She knew the city like the back of her hand and took another bus to the outskirt of the city. As she sat in the public transport, she enjoyed the little journey by eating snacks and scrolling through her phone.
The bus was half-empty, with a few people sleeping and others on their phones or chatting. Wren was lost in her thoughts when she noticed someone watching her. Using the selfie camera as a mirror, she caught sight of a man from the backseat watching her intently. She felt a shiver run down her spine, but she didn't let it faze her.
Deliberately, Wren took the next stop at the bus stop and got down, luring the man into following her. As planned, he came down as well, and Wren quickened her pace, leading him further away from the main road. She knew she had to be careful, but she was confident in her abilities.
The streets were dimly lit, and the only sound was the distant hum of cars and the soft rustling of leaves. Wren walked briskly, her eyes fixed on the alley ahead. She knew the area well and had planned her route carefully.
As she turned into the alley, the man followed, his footsteps echoing off the walls. Wren smiled to herself, knowing she had him right where she wanted him. She quickened her pace, her heart pounding in her chest.
By the time Wren arrived at the alley, the man had blocked her path by standing at the escape route. She couldn't recall who he was or why he followed her, but what she wanted to do was beat him to the punch. The alley was dimly lit, with only a few flickering streetlights casting shadows on the walls. Wren's eyes narrowed as she assessed the situation.
"Little girl, it is a mistake to walk alone in the city of New Eden," the attacker said, as he approached Wren with a sinister look. His voice was low and menacing, but Wren wasn't intimidated. She remained still, her eyes fixed on the attacker with a mocking gaze.
"You made a wrong move by following me, wrong move," Wren said, her voice steady and confident. And before the attacker understood her words, he was set flying by Wren's powerful kick. Because of the academy, she was much stronger and skilled than other kids her age. That was somewhat the benefit of attending the Red Bull Academy, now known as Vanguard Academy.
The attacker crashed to the ground, unconscious. Wren didn't hesitate, searching him for any identification or clues. She found a bit of notes and some interesting documents that caught her attention. The documents mentioned a familiar location, and Wren's eyes widened as she realized the significance.
As she searched the attacker's belongings, Wren's mind was racing with questions. Who was this man, and why was he following her? What was his connection to the academy? She was surprised to find that the attacker knew about the Red Bull Academy, now known as Vanguard Academy.
As much as she wanted to stay and dig up dirt on the mysterious man, Wren knew she had to prioritize her mission. She took the documents and walked away, leaving the unconscious man behind.
Once she left, the unconscious man sat up with a sly smirk. "She fell for the trick, boss," he said, speaking into a comms device hidden in his ear. "Great, keep following her for now," a voice replied on the other end of the line.
The man's eyes gleamed with amusement as he stood up, dusting himself off. He had been instructed to keep an eye on Wren, to see what she was capable of. And now, he had confirmation that she was more than just a ordinary student. She was a force to be reckoned with.
The man smiled to himself as he followed Wren from a distance, keeping a safe eye on her. He knew that this was just the beginning of a much larger game, and he was eager to see how it would all play out.
