It wasn't until we were finally inside that I let my black hood fall back. It's strange, how much I used to love the feel of sunlight on my skin. Even after I was turned, I still missed it, yearned for it like it was something sacred. 

It wasn't until what had happened during the second Trial, did that love finally burned. Now, just the mere thought of having sunlight on my skin, only brought back the horrible memory of it, burning my flesh open. That excruciating, all-consuming pain.

"Are you alright?" Ravić asked, walking us into his office. It was closer than our bedroom upstairs, which would've taken longer too arrive, all the way from the forest.

He set me gently down on the sofa by the fireplace.

"I'm fine," I murmured, pushing myself up on my elbows while he poured a drink from the decanter. "Just shaken, that's all."

"I'm starting to think that I should never leave you alone with him," he murmured, handing me the glass. "Seems like there was always trouble with you two."
