Mylara stormed into Vaeron's war chamber. "They've betrayed us. Lord Doreth—he opened the sea gates. The traitors wear our banners now."
"Where?"
"The harbor, the inner ring, and worse…" She paused. "They've taken the hatchery."
Rage clamped around Vaeron's throat like iron. The hatchery held four dragon eggs. The last. His legacy.
Ashryn, sensing his fury from the tower above, let out a screech that split the sky.
"Then we burn them from the inside," he said.
Fury in the Hallways
The hold became a battlefield.
Slave legions, loyal to Vaeron and promised freedom, clashed with masked Black Scale assassins in the narrow corridors of the outer bastion. Flames licked the stone. Smoke rolled like stormclouds. The cries of men, the clash of steel, and the roar of dragons filled the air.
Vaeron led the charge through the inner sanctum, Ashreaver in his hands, cutting through betrayers like wheat. Behind him came his handpicked warriors—Druvos the black-bladed mercenary, Nelya casting bursts of shielding flame, and Mylara slashing with her twin daggers of Valyrian steel.
They reached the hatchery too late.
One egg was already cracked—its infant dragon slain on the blackstone floor. Another egg was missing. Only two remained.
Mylara knelt beside the ruined nest. "They didn't just betray us. They want to end our bloodline."
Vaeron's hands tightened around his blade.
"Then we'll end theirs."
The Dragon Duel
Above the courtyard, a monstrous shape tore through the ash clouds.A Black Scale dragon, armored in obsidian plating, swooped down with a rider in dark robes. A corrupted beast—enchanted through blood magic and bound by chains instead of bond.
Vaeron summoned Ashryn.
The two dragons collided midair, locked in a spiral of fire and claw. Their wings smashed into towers. Their roars shattered glass. Vaeron leapt from the ramparts and landed hard on Ashryn's back with the practiced ease of a master dragonrider.
Steel met fire.
Vaeron and the enemy dragonlord circled in the air, their blades flashing in the sky as their dragons wrestled in a deadly dance. Ashryn bit deep into the enemy's neck but took a talon to the belly in return. Blood—blue and red—rained down like a second storm.
A voice whispered in Vaeron's mind through the system:

Vaeron jumped, rolled through smoke, and caught Ashryn's wing just as the enemy beast crashed into the city below.
Volnyr Hold trembled again.
The Heart of Fire
At the heart of the mountain, the first rift opened.A vein of magma burst through the lower vaults. The ancient forges turned to rivers of fire. Whole wings of the fortress collapsed into the abyss.
System alert blinked red:

Mylara appeared with a bloodied scroll in hand. "I've found the coordinates. There's an escape path—the ancient tunnel under the Blackstone Bridge. It leads to a hidden port used by the First Dragonlords."
"How many can it carry?"
"Three ships. Maybe fifty people."
Vaeron looked across the battlefield. Over 500 still fought for him. Not all would live.
The Final Stand
He gathered his inner circle atop the burning central keep.
"To those who remain," Vaeron said, voice echoing across flame and ash, "you are the last sons and daughters of true Valyria. Not for conquest. Not for blood. But for the flame that binds us."
He raised his sword.
"We do not flee. We carry the fire."
Cheers erupted, even as the sky cracked open and molten hail began to fall.
The plan was swift:
Mylara would lead the evacuees through the tunnels.
Vaeron, Druvos, and the Blackscale Hunters would hold the bridge.
Nelya would seal the tunnel after them with magic.
They made their stand on the ancient bridge of Voryx-Dhaal, blackstone worn smooth by centuries.
Waves of traitors came, and they met them with blade, spear, and fire. Vaeron fought like a creature possessed, cutting down men and monsters alike. System enhancements kept him moving even when wounds tore his flesh.

Ashryn rose, bearing the last of House Vórenyx on her back.
Three ships fled the ruins through the mist. Behind them, Valyria cracked. Whole mountains exploded. The Fourteen Flames bled fire across the land. Cities fell into the sea.
And yet Vaeron lived.
He turned toward the west, where Essos waited—unaware of the survivors now headed their way.
