Chapter Six
The noise seeped into Haoran's sleep.
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
A relentless mechanical screech that made its way into his dreams before reality woke him up.
With a sigh, he slammed a hand on his alarm with practiced precision like he was already used to it. One rule that Haoran made sure to follow, no matter the day or mood, was: never go late to an event. Punctuality was the goal.
Haoran sat still for a moment, clearing the sleep from his eyes before he swung his legs down the side of the bed to get up. He slipped on his running shoes and walked down the stairs quietly, not wanting to wake anyone. The maids were already there.
The maid bowed when she saw him. "Young Master Haoran, is there anything you need?"
Haoran waved at her that he didn't need anything as he exited the mansion, stepping into the private street and beginning his usual lap down the road. By the time he was done, his head became clearer and his muscles were wide awake.
Entering back into the mansion, he was only stopped by the same maid.
"Mr. Haoran—"
Haoran's eyes fixed on her, the message clear and obvious.
"Your assistant came to drop your suit for the event. It's in your room," she said quickly, then ran off. Her boss was too scary to stand.
Haoran didn't waste much time as he climbed back up to his room to brush his teeth before slipping on the wine-colored suit placed on the bed. Then he came downstairs.
"Son, where are you going?" Mrs. Li asked, seated on a couch with Mr. Li at her side in the sitting room.
Haoran raised his left brow at the question. "Why don't you ask your husband who forced me to attend the event?"
Mrs. Li turned to her husband, confused. "Hubby, what does he mean?"
Mr. Li glared at his son for being a blabbermouth before turning to his wife. "My friend is having an event and asked me to come, but I knew I was going to be busy, so I asked them to invite Haoran instead. But I never expected him to agree."
Haoran looked at his shameless father in shock. "You never expected me to agree after you told my assistant I must go whether I liked it or not," he muttered as he rolled his eyes and left.
"Son, aren't you going to have dinner?" Mrs. Li shouted.
"No."
His assistant, Tianyu, was already waiting outside the mansion with the car. Pulling the door open, he entered.
Seeing his boss/best friend's annoyed face, Tianyu asked, "Did you argue with your parents?"
"How do you know?"
"Who else would you argue with this early in the morning? Zixuan wouldn't come to your house. Or did he?" Tianyu smirked at the idea.
Haoran glared at his assistant for what he said. He was beginning to suspect that this assistant/best friend was secretly his enemy, because if he wasn't, why would he even suggest that playboy would be in his house this early in the morning?
Feeling the cold glare, Tianyu quickly apologized. "Sorry, before you freeze me with your glare. Just so you know, you're just an Alpha—you don't have freezing powers."
"Just shut your mouth and drive quickly," Haoran said irritably as he closed his eyes and rested. Parrot. Maybe he should review this assistant again.
"I know you're thinking of reviewing my application. Can you please pay me a firing fee too?"
"Tianyu."
Without waiting for anything else, Tianyu instantly pressed the accelerator and zoomed off.
After five minutes, they finally reached the event. Flashes of light from reporters could be seen all around as they tried their best to take pictures of all the celebrities for their next headline.
Haoran waited a few minutes until the place cleared a little, then rushed into the event hall. What he hated the most were questions and the camera lights from the reporters—they always irritated him.
The bouncers didn't bother stopping him. Who didn't know the young master of Li Enterprises? The whole hall became quiet as whispers echoed from every direction.
"Isn't that Mr. Li?" someone asked in a whisper.
"He is the one."
A lady Omega with blonde hair added, "That's Li Haoran, the sole owner of Li Enterprises—one of the top enterprises in the country. He's only twenty-four, yet he manages the business. And that's not all—he's also an Alpha."
"Wow, you know all this about him?" someone asked, a little shocked.
"Why won't I know him, when he's on my list of bachelors I need to have?" the blonde Omega smirked as she looked at Haoran's figure hungrily.
Haoran didn't bother with what they were saying at all. What was going on in his mind was his enigma—he wanted revenge. "What do I expect from a playboy, punctuality?" he shook his head, looking for the host of the event. As custom demanded, you must greet the host of an event before planning to do anything else.
Sighting the old man and his son, he walked towards them. "Mr. Wu," Haoran called out.
Mr. Wu nodded his head. "Haoran, how are you? Your old man didn't come?"
"Yes, he said he has something to do. So I came in his stead."
"Okay, greet him for me. I have something to do now," Mr. Fu waved and left, with his son following.
After doing the needful, Haoran went to the drink section, his eyes surveying the whole hall.
The blonde omega, whose eyes had been on Haoran, decided to come and talk to him when she noticed he was alone.
"Hello, handsome," the blonde omega winked at him.
"Hello," Haoran said coldly. One thing about him was that he could be nice to people if he wanted to, but if someone annoyed him by their appearance, there was no need to be nice to them—like the omega in front of him.
"Should we clink our drinks together?" the omega said as she raised her cup.
