Chapter 52 - Chapter 50: Riftfire

The air crackled with raw energy as the Rift tore wider, bleeding shadows into the night sky. A chilling wind swept through the camp, carrying the scent of ash and something far worse—death.

Artemis felt the Beacon's pulse spike, syncopating with her racing heartbeat. The ground trembled beneath her boots.

"Everyone, get ready!" she shouted, voice slicing through the chaos.

Creatures spilled from the Rift—hulking beasts cloaked in shifting darkness, limbs jagged like broken glass. Their eyes glowed an unholy green as they surged forward, snarling and snapping.

Elara fired her rifle, bursts of electric blue bolts tearing through the first wave. But more poured through the rift's jagged maw, relentless and furious.

Artemis dropped low, claws igniting with crimson fire. Her muscles tensed as the ancient power within her surged, reshaping her form. White hair fanned wildly, eyes blazing a fierce scarlet glow.

A monstrous creature lunged at her, claws like razor blades. She met its attack head-on, spinning, slashing through its armor and flesh. The beast howled, toppling as she twisted into the next enemy.

Her movements blurred — a deadly dance of fury and precision. Each strike carved a path through the darkness, her body becoming a weapon forged by rage and resolve.

Behind her, Elara fought with unyielding determination, covering Artemis's back with expert shots and quick thinking. Together, they carved through the nightmarish horde.

Suddenly, a massive shadow detached from the Rift—an enormous beast twice the size of the others, its body wreathed in black flame. The ground shook with its every step.

Artemis's heart thundered as the creature roared, charging straight for her.

She tightened her grip on the Beacon, feeling the power within it flare like a star about to explode.

With a primal roar, Artemis unleashed a blast of crimson energy, colliding with the beast's fiery aura. The shockwave sent both staggering.

Summoning every shred of strength, she leapt forward, claws glowing brighter than ever, and drove them deep into the creature's chest.

The beast shuddered, flames sputtering.

With a final, earth-shaking roar, it collapsed, dissolving into shadows that the wind quickly scattered.

The Rift began to close.

Exhausted but victorious, Artemis dropped to her knees, breath ragged.

Elara crouched beside her, eyes shining with pride and concern.

"We did it," Elara whispered.

Artemis nodded, still catching her breath. "For now."

Above them, the Rift sealed shut with a thunderous crack, but the aftershock rippled through the land—an ominous promise that this war was far from over.
