Chapter 7 - Advance by Retreat

Wu Qiong and Bai Shuang both thought to themselves for a moment. The fact that the intern nurse mentioned the name of Golden Silver Fortress in Whale Fall City meant that she was definitely not someone sent by them.

However, now that the intern nurse had mentioned Golden Silver Fortress, Bai Shuang could take advantage of the situation and lend her a hand.

Bai Shuang thoughtfully nodded and said, "Everyone in Golden Silver Fortress is a big sponsor. Since you know so much about Golden Silver Fortress, how about I transfer you to their medical department? When Golden Silver Fortress takes over Whale Fall City, you'll be my sponsor."

The intern nurse, not expecting Bai Shuang to play such a cunning move, thought she could stir up trouble between Golden Silver Fortress and Whale Fall City. Instead, she found herself caught in her own trap. If she went to Golden Silver Fortress, how could she keep an eye on Whale Fall City's movements?

"What right do you have to decide my fate?!" the intern nurse asked, questioning Bai Shuang.

"She doesn't have the right to decide," Wu Qiong interjected casually. "But I do."

Wu Qiong immediately brought up a screen and said, "Actually, the medical department at Golden Silver Fortress is looking for a quick-witted nurse. Little classmate, you have great potential, so I'll write the transfer letter for you right now."

In just a few words, the intern nurse found herself in a completely disadvantageous position.

In truth, she had never been in a position of strength. The management of Whale Fall City was still firmly in Wu Qiong's hands. She had foolishly challenged the authority of a centuries-old man and was essentially digging her own grave.

Wu Qiong and Bai Shuang had been worried about finding a good opportunity to stir up some trouble in space, and now this opportunity had been handed to them on a silver platter. They would use this intern nurse as the first domino in their scheme.

This intern nurse, who could now become Wu Qiong's "sacrificial pawn," had indeed stumbled into her own fate.

"Hmph!" The intern nurse, with no way out, still made a last-ditch attempt. "You think getting rid of me will stop others from taking over the Whale Fall Decision gaming platform? If you get rid of me, you'll only die faster!"

Wu Qiong smiled indifferently, "To be honest, I have no experience in managing a gaming platform. If you want me to organize gaming competitions for billions of players, I'm truly not up for the task."

"Since your boss is planning to acquire Whale Fall Decision, why not have your boss come here and talk to me directly? I'm more than happy to delegate the operation rights to a third party."

The intern nurse didn't expect that Wu Qiong was all bluff and no substance. A few words from her had made him back down so easily.

Wu Qiong could have suggested a negotiation from the beginning, but that would have made it seem suspicious. The intern nurse, still naive, couldn't recognize the hidden scheme, and her backers would surely realize that Wu Qiong had set a trap for her.

Therefore, Wu Qiong first pretended to resist, and then, after a few words of intimidation from the intern nurse, he relented and compromised.

When the intern nurse reports back to her employer, she would surely exaggerate the situation, making it seem much more complicated than it actually was. Her backers wouldn't see through the deception so easily.

Wu Qiong pretended to pull out the phone number of the Golden Silver Fortress secretariat and was about to dial it. "Your employer is from Golden Silver Fortress, right? I'll call their secretary now and arrange a meeting time."

"No, no!" The intern nurse quickly rushed over and stopped Wu Qiong. "Professor Wu, I didn't explain myself properly. I didn't mean the entire Golden Silver Fortress, just one of the chambers of commerce within it."

"Oh!" Wu Qiong nodded, only half understanding. "Is it the department responsible for gambling, or the department in charge of competitive gaming?"

"Neither," the intern nurse replied. "How about this: if it's convenient for you, Professor Wu, I can arrange a meeting time and help set up a meeting."

"Sure!" Wu Qiong shamelessly complimented her, "Little classmate, you're impressive. You're expanding your network in various fields. Whale Fall City really needs someone like you, keep up the good work!"

Wu Qiong's flattery not only disarmed the intern nurse but also brought her over to his side.

The intern nurse was young and had never seen much of the world. Being flattered by a centuries-old old man, she became smug and overly confident.

She never expected Wu Qiong to be so easily fooled. The intern nurse happily engaged in some casual small talk before eagerly rushing off to prepare for her grand scheme.

Bai Shuang, however, was quietly worried. "Dad, acting so quickly like this might reveal my identity."

Wu Qiong looked at Bai Shuang seriously. "Double, did you forget why I set a 25-year buffer period? This year, you just turned 25."

Bai Shuang slowly lowered her head, staring at her toes absentmindedly. "If I stay in the shadows, I can still play some tricks. But if I'm exposed in front of everyone, I'll have my hands full."

"Don't be afraid," Wu Qiong reassured her. "With your father around, no one can harm you."

"Dad," Bai Shuang looked up at the empty space, deep in thought. "I miss you."

"Ah..." Wu Qiong sighed helplessly. "Your father's spirit will surely protect you."

Space Police Bureau, Criminal Investigation Department.

"Master!!!" Zhuang Mo screamed as he rushed into the office pod. "Breaking news! Whale Fall City has another big scandal!"

"What's all this fuss about?" Huang Peiyu scolded softly. "I've told you many times, as a police officer, you must keep your composure. Even if criminals are about to detonate a nuclear weapon, you must stay calm."

"Oh!" Zhuang Mo forced himself to calm down and pushed a virtual screen in front of his master. "Master, look at this! Whale Fall City is planning to outsource the operation of the Whale Fall Decision gaming platform!"

"Outsource the operation?" Huang Peiyu's expression changed, though not as dramatically as Zhuang Mo's. "Which family is it being contracted to?"

"Neither," Zhuang Mo said. "It's being contracted to a small company I've never even heard of. I can't even remember the name. I don't know how this small company managed to convince Wu Daozhang, but Wu Daozhang agreed."

Huang Peiyu looked at the screen for a moment to confirm that Zhuang Mo hadn't made a mistake. The semi-transparent screen clearly stated exactly what Zhuang Mo had said.

Huang Peiyu asked, "What's the reaction from the other families?"

Zhuang Mo then released a few surveillance videos. "The six major families can't sit still. They're planning to visit Whale Fall City tonight. I've also received some intel—Duma Society's president just died, and President Chang's two sons are still in mourning, so they won't attend tonight's meeting. But Duma Society might send someone else in their place."

Huang Peiyu, with a keen interest, watched the footage and said, "Let's get ready, th
