Chapter 3 - Meeting With The Candidates

The following evening, Lucifer found himself at a masquerade ball hosted in one of the city's most opulent mansions. The place was buzzing with music, laughter, and whispers of secrets exchanged behind masked faces. He donned a black domino mask, his eyes glinting with curiosity as he scanned the crowd.

Then he spotted her – Sabine, a vampire whose skin was as pale as alabaster and whose hair flowed like the darkest night. Her eyes sparkled with a cold, sharp intelligence hidden behind her mask, and her full lips curled into a sly grin as she twirled with a mortal man.

Lucifer felt an irresistible pull towards her, captivated by the air of power and mystery that enveloped her. When the music slowed to a stop, their gazes locked, and for a brief moment, they simply stared at each other, the tension hanging thick in the air.

"Sabine, I take it?" Lucifer said, his voice smooth and low as he approached her.

Her smile widened, revealing glinting fangs in the soft light. "And you are...?"

"Lucifer Morningstar," he replied, their eyes still locked. "The pleasure is all mine, Sabine."

As they danced, Lucifer was entranced by Sabine's frosty beauty and her sharp mind. She was certainly a formidable opponent who wouldn't shy away from a challenge. Yet, as the night progressed, he began to sense that beneath her polished surface was a well of emotion, a complexity that drew him in.

Still, he couldn't shake the feeling that she was holding something back, that there was more to her than meets the eye. He sensed a shadow within her—a desire that went far beyond just bloodlust.

When the masquerade ball was coming to an end, Lucifer led Sabine into the cool night air, the city's magic swirling around them like something alive.

"Tell me, Sabine," he said, his voice low and husky. "What is it you desire the most in this world?"

Her eyes flashed with intensity, her voice barely a whisper. "Power. Control. The freedom to be who I am without fear of judgment or backlash."

Lucifer held her gaze, a spark igniting within him. "I think we might share more in common than I first assumed, Sabine. But I have to ask, are you willing to take risks and face challenges head-on to fulfill your desires?"

Sabine's smile was a slow, seductive curve of her lips. "I'm always ready, Lucifer. The real question is, are you?"

As the night came to an end, Lucifer realized that Sabine was a potential contender for his heart. Yet he also sensed she was just one of many intriguing options, each with their own unique qualities. The real question lingered: which one would ultimately capture his heart?
