Chapter 2 - His words

The library was the only place that could ease my mind. I grabbed my things and told Angel that I am going to my spot — it is one of my favorite places here in school. I would not survive without it.

Kyler, his words are still stuck on my mind, figuring out why he would add that. I do not want to assume he knows something but I am assuring myself that it is only an answer to a question from our professor.

Is it because of my ex that is why I'm caught up with his answer or is it because he is not the kind of guy I am expecting that would say such things.

I arrived at the library and the room was nearly empty, with only a few people sitting here and there. As I turned my gaze, my eyes landed on him — Kyler.

He sat in the corner, alone and unreadable. There was a sharpness to him, even in stillness—dark hair, steady gaze, and a presence that pulled your eyes without meaning to.

"Hey! What are you doing here?"

It made me go back to reality. Was I staring so hard, to him? God, save me.

"Oh hi! Shouldn't you be asking yourself that question?"

"You're right!" He said, laughing. It is my ex's friend, Jason. He is in a football team together with my ex who is their captain. "I am just getting a book for my assignment."

"How are you?" He asked a question I needed but not from him.

"I'm good! Actually, better, but thank you for asking." I look at him and guilt is written all over his face.

Without saying another word, I left him standing. I do not want to face anyone when I am in this kind of situation.

I looked at Kyler again and for an instant, he was already looking at me. I fumbled, the books I am carrying were all on the ground.

"Are you always this clumsy?"

Two black shoes stood in front of me. I looked up, our eyes met. He helped me pick up all the books that were on the ground.

"Thanks, but I don't need help."

"Yeah, sure."

He suddenly put the books on top of the table that was beside me and left. What's wrong with him? He suddenly became grumpy.

I sat on the table where he put all my books. One of them was written by Ann Liang — one of my favorite authors. "I am not Jessica Chen," is now one of my comfort books.

I got so busy reading that I forgot to take a glimpse inside of the library. Everyone left but the shadow I am familiar with is still here, he is sleeping.

Why would he sleep here?

The door suddenly opened, three tall guys stepped in. They all go where Kyler is sleeping. "Wake up!" His voice is loud, anyone in the room can hear.

Kyler slowly lifts up his head and sits up straight — arms crossed. "What do you want?"

"You."

Without any second, they were out of the room.

I don't know what's got into me but I hurriedly picked up my things and followed them.
