My name's Ash Wynn, and I'm just your average background extra in this magical world full of warriors, heroes, and dragons.
At least, that's what I tell people.

"ASH WYNN!! GET UP!! IT'S YOUR AWAKENING CEREMONY!!"
A muffled voice pounded through my dorm door. I blinked.
"…Awakening what?" I mumbled, sitting up, hair sticking out like a mop.
I glanced at the enchanted wall clock.9:56 AM.
The Awakening Ceremony started at 9:00.
"…Oh."I yawned.
Guess I slept through it.
After slipping on my wrinkled academy robe, I lazily stumbled out of the dorm room, toast half-bitten in my mouth. The hallway was empty—everyone was already at the Grand Hall.
"Should I even go…?" I muttered, biting the rest of the toast. "Nah, they probably won't notice I'm missing."
I turned around to go back to bed.
And then I tripped.
Over nothing.
"Whoa—!"
I slammed face-first into a statue near the hallway corner. The stone pedestal wobbled… and crashed.
A weird marble orb rolled out from inside the broken statue. It shimmered with soft blue light and pulsed like a heartbeat.
"…The hell is this?"
A loud magical ding! echoed.A floating panel appeared before my eyes.

I blinked. "...Huh?"
Just then, a group of professors came running in.
"Who activated the relic?!"
"What?! That orb has been sealed for 300 years!"
"There's no way a student triggered it by accident!"
They all looked at me.
Toast still hanging from my mouth. Eyes half-open. Bedhead.
"Who... are you?" one of them whispered.
I scratched my cheek. "Uh… Ash Wynn. Extra class."
Dead silence.
Then:BAM!
A bolt of lightning struck outside the window. Dramatic timing. Very unnecessary.
"I... I should probably go now." I turned and casually walked away.
Behind me, one of the professors muttered, "Did… did the Eye of Fortune just choose a background extra?"
And that's how my day started.
I missed my ceremony.I broke a statue.And apparently, I got a skill that shouldn't exist.
But really, I just want to go back to bed.
All this hero stuff?Yeah. That's someone else's problem.
