Everyone who had been scouring the mansion stopped for a second. They all looked up, imagining Lola's reaction once she found out her children were gone. All they could think of were the times Lola had panicked whenever the twins did something even slightly extreme—and how deeply she cared for them.
Compared to Atlas, who watched his children toe the line between life and death with unsettling calm, Lola would break anyone within reach if it meant not losing her sanity. And since so much had been happening in the Order, no one believed Lola—or even Atlas—would simply sit back and wait for the twins to return on their own.
Everyone gulped nervously.
"For a second, I think I just saw a glimpse of hell," one of them muttered. "Shit!"
