Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Present

Tokyo, June 12, 2025. Night.

The engine of the black BMW M5 purred as it coasted to a stop on the top floor of the parking lot.

"Dark Knights... Dark Knights... can you hear me...?" A voice crackled over the radio console.

Sam, with a focused intensity, picked up the handset. "This is Sam. How can I help you?"

"I'm calling from Tokyo Cops," the voice on the other end reported. "We're detecting a high-level Mana signal coming from the Sky Tree area. Can you check the site?"

What is the magnitude of the mana?" Sam asked, his fingers already hovering over the gear shift.

It's designated as Negative Sin."

Understood. We were already on our way."

Sam dropped the handset, cranked up the music, released the handbrake, and slammed the accelerator. With a skillful flick of the wheel, the M5 executed a full-frontal drift, tires screaming as they left the parking lot in a blaze of smoke and speed.

A nearby figure, a man who had just dropped his bag of groceries, stared in disbelief. "What the heck is a BMW M5 doing here?!"

Kirito, sitting in the passenger seat, stretched his arms above his head. "Oh man, I hate night patrol. This isn't the time for neutralization drills or spell training."

Sam adjusted the steering wheel, his expression tight. "This is the perfect time to learn about devils." He prepared for his next turn, a tight, controlled drift.

"First, stop trying to be a street racer, Tenzaki-boy. No one is watching you," Kirito muttered.

" What's the problem with my driving?" Sam shot back.

" Yes, there's a problem—you don't know how to drive normally!" Kirito retorted, already pulling his gun.

Sam sped toward the city center. "Drive it normally, or switch with me!" Kirito yelled over the engine.

"In your dreams!" Sam floored the accelerator. "Sorry, can't hear you!"

Sam slammed the handbrake, bringing the M5 to a halt. They were now facing the dazzling night view of the Tokyo Tree. They got out of the car.

"I am definitely sending you to driving school, Sam," Kirito quipped.

" Let's save the chatter for later. First, check the body," Sam instructed, pulling on a pair of gloves.

"I'm coming," Kirito said, grabbing his weapon and stepping out.

They headed toward the towering entrance. A guard immediately blocked their path. "Tickets, please. And who are you here to see?"

"We don't need tickets. Hello, brother, we are from the Dark Knight Organization," Sam stated smoothly. "Let us in."

The guard looked confused. "I don't know what you're even talking about."

"Fine. I'll make it short. We're from the DKB," Sam said.

"Then show me your ID."

Kirito, without hesitation, flashed his ID and walked straight past the man, not waiting for Sam.

"Wait, where did I put mine...?" Sam patted his pockets, acting frustrated. "Kirito was pretending to look for his ID, but I knew he'd forgotten it at home." Sam pulled out his phone. "Hello, Reno. Send me the picture of my ID. Kirito doesn't have it with him."

A moment later, Kirito took the phone, showed the picture to the guards, and they were finally let inside.

"You're just like a child, " Kirito said.

"Sorry," Sam replied with a grin.

At the very top of the tower, intense mana waves pulsed through the atmosphere. There weren't many people around, leaving them free to use their magic and weapons.

They finally reached the top floor, searching for the Devil. As Sam touched the glass wall, men immediately appeared behind him and struck him hard, sending him flying backward, shattering the glass.

"Sam...!" Kirito yelled, but Sam quickly signaled with his hand—a clear sign to engage.

Kirito drew his gun and started firing at the men, but one man was unnaturally fast, already getting away. "Damn it, he's fast!" Kirito gave chase.

The man jumped out of the tower, and Kirito didn't hesitate, leaping right after him.

"This is Alpha, target is secure," the man spoke into his earpiece.

" From the boiling of mana, through the coldness of my heart, sleep forever. Death Winds." That man recited a chant as he chased him.

"This childish thing will not work, Atomic rail"

Kirito moved in a curve, trying to anticipate his trajectory, but he hadn't fully mastered the spell. He landed awkwardly on a lower roof, sliding on his backside.

Kirito eventually caught up with the men. He placed his gun against one of the men's heads. "Smoothy, baby. Now, who is the target here?" Kirito smiled menacingly.

"Even if you captured me, your partner is already dead after falling from that height," the man laughed.

"That dog's tail isn't going to die this early." Kirito caught the car key thrown from the rooftop. "You will drive me back, I think I got an ankle break, Also, who are you calling dog's tail?"Sam Standing on rooftop

Sam descended, stretching his hand. "He's secured now."

"I told you to keep quiet!" Kirito pressed his gun into the man's neck and put him to sleep with a quick move.

"What happened to the devil?" Kirito asked.

"He's neutralized," Sam replied, holstering his gun.

"Okay. Now what do we do with him?" Kirito putting back hos gun.

"Let's have a talk with him," Sam said with a mischievous smile.

"Don't become a demon. There's a chance we have to hand him over to the police," Kirito warned.

"Yeah, I know." Sam tied the man to the restaurant roof.

"Eighty-two million, nine hundred ten thousand, two hundred thirty-three dollars! Where did he get this much money?" Asuna exclaimed, shocked by the bank balance Sam had found.

"What happened, Allya?"

"Nothing," Asuna replied. "But now you can buy anything you want for Kirito."

"Yeah, but where do we start?" Allya was confused.

"Let's have dinner first, and then we'll talk about your gift, okay, Asuna?"

"Yes. And what are you giving him?" Allya asked.

I'm also thinking about that. Let's think while we eat something delicious."

"Yes!"

While they were eating dinner, Asuna asked Allya about Kirito's hobbies. "Brother loves to draw, edit videos, play badminton and online games, cook, travel, take photos, codeing , and listen to music," Allya rattled off. "He's just like a multi-tasking device." Asuna laughed.

"Who knows where this device got lost while studying," Allya added.

"Did you want anything to drink?" Asuna asked.

"Yes, an orange drink."

Sam returned to the roof. "wake him up," he instructed.

"As you wish, water bubble," Kirito said, dropping the bubble on the man's face.

Huh, where am I?" the man groggily asked.

" Welcome to the night east, now tell me why you came after Kirito, and who sent you. I have other ways to make you talk," Sam said, holding his pistol.

" Never—" The Sam shot his nuts before man could finish speaking.

"Last chance. Spill it," Sam ordered, his tone deadly serious. Kirito watching Reels on his phone while he waited.

"Did he say anything?" Kirito asked.

"He's just starting his story. Want to listen?"

"Of course, tell me fast, it's already nine. I want dinner.

"W-we... we got a contract to capture a brother and sister. Their names are Kirito Kaizawa and Allya Kaizawa. We were told to kill the brother and bring the sister to the man. That man is in Port," the captive stammered.

"Who gave the contract? Who are you? How many people are involved?" Sam pressed.

"I-I don't know the man, but he told us to bring the girl to the harbor at midnight. There were sixteen of us after her. Please, just leave me alone!"

Sam shot the man in the head.

"What did he do that for?" Kirito questioned.

"Just to protect Allya until she reaches home without getting her involved. Now let's find out who put out this bounty," Sam stated.

" Where is she?" Kirito asked.

"I gave her permission to go shopping with Asuna until eleven."

"Then there's no need to worry about her safety. Let's go and finish the remaining fifteen," Sam said.

There they come. Let's follow them to hit a few more targets," Sam said, spotting Asuna and Allya leaving the restaurant.

"Let's go and first check out some clothes stores," Allya suggested.

"Okay," Asuna said, holding Allya's hand.

"Let's go," Sam muttered, already in motion.
