"Huh?" Subaru mumbled to herself, blinking in confusion.
One moment, she'd been grabbing a few things from the convenience store, rubbing at her sore eyes after losing track of time in front of her monitor again. The streets had been empty, save for a flickering streetlamp.
And now… it was broad daylight.
The dullness of midnight was gone, replaced by the warmth of morning sun and the murmur of a bustling market. People moved past her in every direction, chatting, haggling, laughing. Stalls lined the streets, colourful fabrics and fruits stacked high, an unfamiliar scents filled the air. as if stepping into an entirely different world.
Actually...
A carriage rolled by, the sudden clatter of wheels snapping her from her daze. She jumped back, ready to curse out the reckless driver, only to freeze when she saw what was pulling it.
"Was that a… raptor?"
Her eyes stayed glued to the creature until it disappeared into the crowd, blending among the mass of unfamiliar faces. Except… they weren't all faces. There were lizardmen, beastfolk, animal-eared people, and things she couldn't even name.
Finally, dragging her gaze upward, Subaru took in the buildings. Rustic wood and stone structures with medieval architecture. The signboards she couldn't read. Lanterns hanging from ropes overhead.
A grin crept onto her face.
Excitement bubbled up in her chest, and she practically bounced in place. "Was I seriously isekai'd!? Oh my god, no way, I never thought this would actually happen to me!" She spun around, eyes wide. "Did someone summon me? Is there a magic circle somewhere?! Ooh! Oooh!"
Without any idea what to do next, Subaru frantically looked around, half-expecting a robed old man or a mysterious girl with a quest to show up.
"I wonder if I have magic. Or a cheat skill. Or… something cool."
After a moment of thought, she shrugged, stuffed her hands in her hoodie pockets, and picked a random direction. Planning to walk until she finds the plot... or the plot finds her.
