Chapter 2 - All the Power

Rein let out a yawn as he sat in his bookstore reading a book titled Quantum Physics.

As an 25 year old man living in Gotham, there was not much to do other than read books and study.

His mother was terrified to let him out of the house in fear of Rein getting hurt and his father was reluctant to let him out in fear of Rein hurting others.

Which was a shame as Rein learned how to control his super strength by the age of 3. He had learned to control his flight by 5. Mastered everything else by 10.

Now he was a functional adult reading textbooks on Quantum Physics just to stave off some boredom.

With a sigh, Rein put away his book back on the shelf before blankly staring out at the window.

He was not allowed to play with other boys his age. He was not allowed to meet girls his age. He was not allowed to have a social life of any sort. It was fine for a few years but now he was about to be killed by the boredom.

With a small smile Rein wrote a note to his parents saying that he was gonna have some fun outside, grabbed a hoodie, and immediately took off in flight.

Ever since the rise of meta humans decades ago, people no longer cared about a flying man. At least as long as he didn't cause any damage to the surroundings.

Especially with that up and coming Dark Knight called Batman roaming the streets at night.

Rein wanted to meet him before out of curiosity but never saw him in action.

Besides, someone saving Gotham all night would probably have some heroic sense of justice. Something Rein didn't care much for.

As long as they left him alone, he wouldn't use his powers to to take over the world.

Chuckling at the small joke he made, Rein eventually arrived at the sea and continued to fly straight until he reached a familiar location.

A small point of land was sticking out of the sea barely bigger than a square meter. A normal person would see this and think nothing of it but amongst the fishermen it had become something of an urban legend. An island that rises out of the sea only to sink back down again.

And the reason for that was none other than Rein.

In addition to his super strength and ability to fly, Rein was giving a few other abilities. Super sight, which he used to peek at some pretty girls passing by on the street and shoot lasers out of. Super hearing, which was honestly more of a pain most times. Super breath to immediately chill his drinks to the perfect temperature. And the ability to not starve by sunbathing.

And one last ability.

Rein's white hair started to rise as he extended his hands towards the island and exerted his strength. As veins started bulging out and sweat dripped down of his forehead, the island began to tremble. As Rein concentrated harder and harder, the small island began to rise as more and more land started emerging from the sea.

With a final yell, Rein gave one last shove as the small island became the size of a small city.

With a satisfied sigh, Rein floated down to the emerged island and laid down on the grassy peak to rest.

Telekinesis was a very convenient ability.

With no one to test his powers on, he had resorted to doing some minor landscaping instead. Although it was hard work and a bit tedious, it was a fresh spray of mist on his otherwise dry life.

Rein didn't know why he had so many abilities. Most Metahumans only had one but he couldn't care less. They were his powers and his choice to use however he wanted. His parents wouldn't know anything either since they adopted him from the sky.

And if someone tried to force him to something, he could always come to this island and relax for a bit. Since he made the entire place, didn't that mean he was basically the king? If not a king then the owner of the land?

With a chuckle, Rein closed his eyes and decided to take a nap.

When the sun started to set, Rein decided it was about time and flew back home.

And when he arrived at the bookstore, he saw his mother and father burned alive in a blazing bonfire he once had called his home.

All the power in the world could not help his parents.
