Chapter 3 - A Night with Harley Quinn

Connors rented three places in Gotham, and the one he and Harley Quinn are currently in is one of them.

Worried that the bedding left by the landlord was too dirty, he bought all new items, including the snow-white pillows on the bed.

At this moment, he held the pillow with both hands, its large, soft core constantly changing shape in his grasp.

And due to the presence of the Spider-Sense, Connors' senses seemed to become more refined; specifically, the experience was better...

...

The shaking bed gradually calmed down. Connors lit a post-coital cigarette and looked with satisfaction at Harley Quinn lying in his arms.

It was three in the morning, and the Gossip System had already started recording today's major gossip.

Connors lit his cigarette, pondered for a moment, then clicked "No".

No rush, only three hours had passed in the new day, there was plenty of time.

He got up and walked to the window, looking at the night sky outside. Commissioner Gordon's projected Bat-Signal was still imprinted on the dark clouds.

As it was a dark, rainy night outside, Connors couldn't see much scenery except for the Bat-Signal. Harley Quinn swayed her hips and walked in front of him, glancing curiously out the window.

"My mysterious mister, you said you'd take me to turn Gotham City upside down. You can't do that without some skills, can you? Let me guess..."

Just then, Connors' hair stood on end, as if some dangerous individual in the dark World outside had set their sights on him.

"Guess my ass."

He roughly pulled Harley Quinn over, held her down kneeling in front of him, then frowned tightly as he looked outside.

Although he couldn't see with his naked eyes, the Spider-Sense had just given a frantic warning, indicating someone was outside.

His residence was on the nineteenth floor with smooth glass walls on the exterior. Most people couldn't get up there at all, but there was one exception only in Gotham City, and that was Batman.

Fortunately, the bedroom window wasn't a floor-to-ceiling window. Harley Quinn was held down by him and couldn't stand up, so from the outside, only Connors' bare upper body could be seen.

"Ho, still busy?"

He seemed to be talking to himself. Although he couldn't see outside with his eyes, the Spider-Sense still allowed him to pinpoint Batman's location, and he looked over with sharp eyes.

Batman's naked eyes couldn't see Harley Quinn. His infrared vision could penetrate the walls, but then he couldn't see her appearance clearly.

According to the timeline, Harley Quinn's identity in the outside World was still the consultant hired by Arkham Asylum, "Harleen Quinzel". She wasn't truly Harley Quinn yet.

As for himself, using the money rewards given by the Gossip System, he had obtained a legal identity on the third day after arriving here.

From any perspective, Batman currently had no reason to apprehend him and Harley Quinn.

After figuring this out, a smile appeared at the corner of Connors' mouth, and his gaze towards Batman outside became even more unrestrained.

...

"Alfred, help me look up this guy named 'Connors Patterson'."

Amidst the rain curtain, Batman Bruce Wayne said in a low voice, his gaze fixed on the young man on the nineteenth floor opposite who seemed to have spotted him.

"Have we got a new target? Let me see."

In the intercom built into the Bat-cowl, the butler Alfred said unhurriedly. Accompanied by the sound of keyboard typing, the message quickly came through:

"Connors Patterson, aged twenty-five, of East Asian descent, unemployed, recently frequently seen at the 'Ghost Face Bar', no criminal record."

"...However, this information is all fabricated. The only true information is that he frequently goes to the bar. Young Master Wayne, have you made any discoveries?"

"Not yet, it's just that this guy seems to be able to see me," Bruce Wayne said. "Add him to the watch list."

"No problem. Shall we continue looking for the Joker?" the butler asked from the other end of the intercom.

"I'll observe for a bit longer."

"Just a reminder, the person is currently stark naked. Young Master Wayne, since when have you had this kind of hobby?"

"..."

...

Within the Spider-Sense, Batman outside showed no signs of leaving. Connors also didn't return to bed, remaining standing by the window.

"He's probably investigating my identity now. My apparent identity is fine, but with the Wayne Group's methods, they should be able to find out it's fabricated."

"But even if they find out, they definitely won't know anything about my real information. I refuse to believe they can discover I'm a transmigrator?"

While he was thinking, Harley Quinn, who was kneeling in front of him, tried to stand up several times but was pushed back down by him. At this moment, she finally couldn't help it:

"Hey, what exactly do you want? My knees are going to swell up!"

Harley Quinn still didn't know his name and used "Hey" for all addresses.

Connors stroked Harley Quinn's head with his hand, his eyes fixed on the window outside, and said softly:

"You were a consultant at Arkham Asylum before, right?"

Harley Quinn nodded repeatedly like a chick pecking rice.

"The Joker's enemy is Batman, you should know that too, right?" Connors continued to ask.

She continued to nod.

"That guy is watching outside right now."

After Connors finished speaking, Harley Quinn understood:

"You're afraid of him? I'm not afraid."

Connors chuckled. He was innocent right now, what was there to be afraid of?

It made sense that Harley Quinn wasn't afraid of Batman; after all, she had only just transformed from a psychologist into a crazy beauty and hadn't officially clashed with Batman yet.

The setbacks the Joker had suffered at Batman's hands, she had never experienced.

Then Connors completely understood just how "unaquainted with fear" Harley was. Astonishingly, with Batman outside, she started playing music for herself.

"Hiss..."

Connors sucked in a cold breath. The presence of the Spider-Sense doubled the stimulation, making him almost shiver. But with Batman still outside, it didn't matter what Harley did; he had to keep his nerves taut.

When he regained his composure and looked out the window, the Spider-Sense indicated that Batman's trace had completely disappeared.

...

On top of the twenty-third floor of the building where Connors was located, Batman felt a moment of awkwardness as he listened to the butler Alfred's teasing on the intercom.

He was Batman, not Peeping Tom Man. What happened tonight was truly unexpected for him.

"Seeing how energetic the young man is, Young Master Wayne, you should also quickly find a partner."

Bruce Wayne silently turned off the intercom, leaped down from the tall building, his cape spreading with a swish, and glided towards the location illuminated by the Bat-Signal.

Today, a psychological consultant named Harleen Quinzel released the Joker who was locked up in Arkham Asylum. With the help of Poison Ivy, all the inmates inside collectively escaped.

Tonight was another sleepless night.
