- Four years ago we lost all contact with Sweden, said a news reporter. It's already been four years, I thought. Hi, I am Kenji Fuji.
- And a year ago that magic was discovered, said the news reporter. In this world there are many different types of magic. Some are unique which means only one person in the world gets it like beast magic and some are quite common like lightning magic.
- Magic City fifth strongest magician Yuki Misaka also known as The Frozen Prince have been challenged by the sixth strongest magician Arakan Takahashi. They are going to have their battle at half past four this afternoon, said the news reporter.
- I must watch that battle, I said to myself. I'm not missing that battle as long as I don't get detention, I thought. Right now I live in Magic City, a city on an artificial island south of Japan. It has a population over a million people and around 62% of the population are students.
Every person in Magic City is classified in one out of 7 classes. The class you are in is decided by your mana score. One's mana score decides how strong your magic is. We figure out your mana score through a spell that is called "MS Computus." F-Class is for people who don't have any magic. Only about 10% of the people in Magic City are in the F-Class. Right now there are no adults that are in the F-Class. If you have a mana score of 1 or above you are in E-Class, for D-Class you need 2 000, C-Class 4 000, B-Class 8 000, A-Class 16 000 and S-Class 200 000. Right now there are only 6 people in S-Class and right now the second closest person to S-Class have a mana score of 97 578. The person who is the second closest to S-Class doesn't even have 50% of the mana needed for S-Class and I am in… F-Class. Remember one's class is only decided by one's mana score and because I have a mana score of 0 I am in the F-Class. Does that mean that I am good at fighting… Maybe not but at least I am not ranked as the weakest F-Class… Ok maybe I am but who cares? I don't… I Promise. The only two classes where one's place in the rankings isn't decided by one's mana score is of course the F-Class since everyone has a mana score of 0 and S-Class. In the S-Class they prioritise one's ability in an actual battle. So they sometimes have these battles to see who is the better fighter. You can only challenge the person right in front of you in the rankings. If the challenger wins they get the challenged person's rank which means they get a higher pay but if they lose the battle they have to give the winner 100 000 yen.
- I wish I could use magic, I said. After that I looked at the clock and saw that I was starting soon.
When I came to my classroom I was the only one that wasn't already there.
- Fuji, you are late, said my teacher. Her name is Usagi Hara. She has long purple hair and purple eyes. She was very tall. She has a grey blazer, white shirt and grey pants.
- Fuji go and sit down right away, Hara said.
- Ok, I replied and sat at my place.
- So today we are going to take a look at how strong someone usually is with a certain type of magic, said Hara.
- So how about we talk about how strong someone with the same magic as one of the S-Classes usually is. So who should we start with… Tanaka? asked Hara and pointed to the girl in front of me. The girl in front of me got up and answered "Of course." She has long black hair and blue eyes. She has a white shirt and a grey skirt that went down to her knees, which is this school's female summer uniform. Her name is Aiko Tanaka.
- We can start with Nari Misaka, a lightning magician who is the third strongest magician in Magic City. There are rumors that she is the only one in Magic City that can use the spell Thunderbird, the strongest lightning spell, said Tanaka.
- Someone is a big fan of Misaka, I don't understand, she have no boobs, said one of my friends Akemi Wada. He has short dark blue hair and blue eyes. His skin was more on the dark side. He has a white shirt and black shorts which is this school's boys summer uniform. He is also short.
- Wada be silent and raise your hand if you have something to say, said Hara. Then she continued, "Lightning magic is one of those magics that is neither bad nor good. Around 50% of all lightning users have a class of B or higher but around 45% are in E-Class and only 5% are C or D-Class so it has an average of C-Class. Even though lightning magic is one of the weakest magic classes looking at its average rankings, so are they often quite valuable in the Team Battle Tournaments as they can hit right thru air magicians Air Shield which most other kinds of magic can't hit thru and they are immune to Mind Magic." Team Tournaments are a series of tournaments that happen on the second Saturday of each month. It starts in March and ends in October. The winner of each tournament gets 14 000 yen per person and the team who wins the most gets 14 000 000 yen. Each team gets 80 points which can be spent on magicians. Its 0 points for an F-Class, 1 point for E-Class, 2 for D-Class, 4 for C-Class, 8 for B-Class, 16 for A and 32 for S-Class. A team must have at least 4 people to be allowed to compete.
- So who has the strongest unique magic? asked Hara.
- Its Accelerator with his vector manipulation, Wada answered.
- Wada! How many times do I need to tell you to raise your hand if you have something to say and you're wrong. No one has ever used vector manipulation, said Hara. After that Tanaka raised her hand and Hara answered "Suzuku."
- It is Akuji Kage with his Dark Matter Magic, answered Kentaro Suzuki. He is also one of my friends. He has yellow hair and green eyes. He is really thin. He have a white shirt and black shorts on him.
- Wait, isn't that just a rumor? asked Wada. Come on Wada, have you never looked at the list of all the S-Class, I thought and put my hand on my face.
- Wada, be quiet now. Suzuki, you are correct even if Accelerator is the strongest magician, even if he shouldn't be so is Akuji Kage's Dark Matter Magic stronger than Accelerator's wind magic, said Hara. After that we went through the rest of the S-Classes and then we got our assignments and started working.
On the first break
- Hej Fuji, have you seen any pretty girls? asked Suzuki.
- No, why do you wonder? I asked.
- Have you seen any big boobs? asked Wada. I looked at Hara while she was checking what she was going to do in the next lesson and pointed at her and said "Those are the only big breasts I've seen."
- Why was you late then? asked Suzuki.
- Didn't know the time, I replied.
- Shall we go, Wada asked.
- Oh Yeah, we need to go to another classroom for the next lesson, I said then we went to the next classroom.
- Fuck, fuck, fuck, the match have already started, I screamed and ran to the match.
When I got to the arena I heard someone say "Fuji there you are." It was my friend Suzuki.
- What took you so long? asked Wada.
- I got detention, I answered when I got to them.
- Oh yeah, you were late, said Wada.
- Shut up, I said.
- Frozen Scythe, said a young pretty man who must have been Yuki Misaka. He has long light blue hair and brown eyes. He has a blue shirt with light blue details under a silver blazer and blue pants. He summoned his ice scythe and tried to hit Arakan Takahashi but he just jumped away.
- Fantastic fist-blast, screamed Takahashi who had messy black hair and orange eyes. He was very muscular and had a white tank top with a black jacket on him like a cloak and grey shorts. He fired an orange fist towards Misaka but he avoided it. When the fist touched the ground it exploded which almost hit Misaka. All of a sudden Takahashi was behind Misaka and said "Boo."
-Wait what, Misaka said in surprise and looked behind him. When he did that punched Takahashi, Misaka in the face. Misaka hit the ground hard which made him give up.
- And the winner is Arakan Takahashi, said the judge.
- Wow that fight was amazing, said Suzuki.
- Wait, I missed like the whole fight, I said and sighed. I looked at Misaka when he walked out and saw him talking to a girl. She had brown slightly longer hair and brown eyes. She had a school uniform from Midorepki Magic Academy which is the most prestigious girl school in Magic City. She wore a white short-sleeved shirt under a light brown short-sleeved blazer and a grey skirt that reached halfway down to their thighs. She was also quite small.
- That's Nari Misaka, said Suzuki and ran down to Misakas room.
When we got to his room, saw we that Nari and Yuki were arguing.
- Yuki, you are such an embarrassment, you can't even beat Takahashi, Nari screamed.
- Hey sis, he was… Yuki tries to say soothingly before Nari interrupts him.
- He barely has enough magic to be in the S-Class, if his mana score was any lower he wouldn't even be an S-Class and isn't your magic double as powerful as his? screamed Nari.
- Wait, you are siblings? asked Suzuki. When he said that Nari and Yuki realized that we were here.
- Yeah, she is my little sister, answered Yuki.
- Hey Nari, what says about you go out on a date with me? asked Suzuki.
- Why would anyone want to go on a date with you, said Nari coldly.
- Hey, what do you mean by that? asked Suzuki.
- You are F-Class right? asked Nari.
- Yeah and? asked Suzuki.
- What sensible person would go out with a piece of trash like you? asked Nari.
- Come on Suzuki, she doesn't have big enough boobs for you, said Wada.
- Excuse me, said someone behind us. I turned around and saw a girl with pink hair and eyes. She was quite small. She looked really angry. When I looked at Nari, flashes of lightning came from her. Oh no, she is really mad, I thought. Yuki and I told the girls to calm down. After we said that Nari looked at me and said "Wait, it's you."
- What do you mean by that? I asked.
- You are the person who ran into me and only said sorry when you should have gotten on your knees and asked for forgiveness, said Nari. I had no idea what she was talking about. I did not remember that we had met before.
- I'm sorry but I don't remember that we have met before, I said. When I said that, lightning came everywhere from her.
- You don't even remember me? she asked angrily.
- Hey, a tip. run, said Yuki.
- Um yeah, I think that's a good idea, I said and ran away.
- Hey, come here, Nari said and ran after me.
After I had run for more than 5 minutes, I stopped and looked behind me.
- I think I have lost her, I said exhaustedly.
- You are quick, I have to say, but not quick enough, said Nari angrily.
- Single Lightning, said Nari and shot a bolt of lightning towards me but I just stretched out my right arm and stopped the bolt. Oh wait, I forgot to mention that my right arm can stop all magic. I think I even forgot to mention that in the synopsis.
