Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Two months after Eliana's wedding...

Maria:

"I'm so happy you're pregnant! Now my son will have a friend... or maybe a little girlfriend."

Eliana:

"Of course! How much time do you have left before you give birth?"

Maria:

"I don't really know, but I feel like it's close."

Eliana:

"How about we go out for coffee?"

As they entered the café, Maria suddenly doubled over in pain, screaming—it had started. She was in labor. Eliana immediately called an ambulance, then phoned John to let him know what was happening. They rushed to the hospital, where John was already waiting.

John:

"Doctor! My wife is giving birth!"

Doctor:

"Don't worry. Nurse, let's go!"

Maria (in pain):

"Eliana..."

Eliana:

"I'm here. I'm not going anywhere, I promise."

Maria:

"I need to tell you something..."

Eliana:

"Not now..."

Maria (struggling through the pain):

"Please... listen to me..."

Eliana:

"What is it?"

Maria:

"If something happens to me... I want my son to marry your daughter. And I want you to raise him like your own. That's my last wish."

Eliana (angrily):

"What are you saying! You'll be fine, you're staying with us!"

Maria was taken into the delivery room.

That was the last conversation she ever had with Eliana.

Eliana (in shock):

"W-why would she say that? I'm scared..."

John:

"She'll be fine. You know how she always says silly things when she's nervous. We'll see her soon—with the baby, happy and healthy."

Eliana:

"Yeah... of course."

Stephen arrived shortly after Eliana had texted him, asking him to be with her during Maria's labor.

Stephen:

"My love."

Eliana (worried and tearful):

"She made me promise to take care of her son... in case something happened. I'm scared, Stephen."

He hugged her gently.

Stephen:

"She's going to be okay. Both of them will be."

Ten minutes later, the sound of a baby crying filled the air.

John's eyes filled with tears.

John:

"That's my son... that's my son!"

Stephen:

"Congratulations to you both."

John:

"Thank you."

Eliana:

"I can't wait to see that little troublemaker! And by the way, congratulations, John."

John:

"Thank you."

The doctor came out, but his expression was grave.

John:

"Doctor... tell me... is my wife and baby okay?"

The doctor hesitated.

Doctor:

"The baby is fine. But your wife..."

He paused.

Doctor:

"I'm deeply sorry. We did everything we could to save her... but..."

John:

"But what?!"

Doctor:

"We lost her... I'm truly sorry."

John (in disbelief):

"What?! That's not true! She's just joking... she told you to do this, right? She loves pranks... she told you to pretend, didn't she?"

The doctor remained silent, unable to speak. His eyes welled with tears.

They brought the baby out to John. Meanwhile, Maria... lay like an angel, wrapped in white, her beautiful face covered.

John:

"How did this happen?!"

Eliana (sobbing):

"My sist—eeeeeer!"

Stephen trying to make Eliana calm:

"My love..."

Eliana:

"Don't leave me... please... don't leave me..."

John:

"Wake up, my love... please, look... Max is waiting for you..."

Eliana:

"You can't take her away..."

That day was the darkest of all—for John, who lost his soulmate... and for Eliana, who lost her sister.

One week later...

Stephen:

"My love, you need to eat. You'll harm the baby."

Eliana:

"I don't want to eat... I want my sister..."

She cried until she fell asleep.

John, on the other hand, became a man lost in grief. His life partner was gone forever.

John:

"Mirna! Mirna!"

Mirna (the maid):

"Yes, sir?"

John:

"Are the bags packed?"

Mirna:

"Yes, sir."

John:

"Everything? As you know... we're leaving Mexico. We're moving to France."

Mirna:

"Of course, sir."

John:

"Then get Max ready and bring him to the car. Now."

Mirna:

"Yes, sir."

Ten minutes later, inside the car—

John:

"To the airport, George."

George (driver):

"Yes, sir."

Back at Eliana's home, she had just woken up, intending to check on Max. But she was shocked to learn that John had left the country—taking Max with him.

She didn't know where they'd gone.

A year later...

Eliana gave birth to a beautiful baby girl—Maria. Years later, she had a son—Liam.

Back to the present...

Eliana:

"And that... is my story. Well, maybe not the end, because I don't know what the future holds."

Maria (sadly):

"So that's why you named me Maria... Oh God, Mom, that's heartbreaking..."

Eliana:

"That's life, sweetheart."

Maria:

"You're crying... is it because I remind you of your friend?"

Eliana:

"I'm not sad, because I know my sister... my best friend... is in a better place. Life is full of loss... but you know what? I have a wish."

Maria:

"Tell me! I'll make it come true!"

Eliana smiled.

Eliana:

"I want to see my friend's son... Max. What does he look like now? Where is he?"

Maria:

"I'll make your dream come true, Mom. Don't worry."

Eliana:

"I know you will."

Maria hugged her mother.

Maria:

"Mom, look at Liam! He fell asleep."

Eliana chuckled.

Eliana:

"Go tell your father to carry him to bed."

Maria:

"Sure! And I'm heading to sleep too. Good night, love you!"

Eliana:

"Good night, sweetheart. I love you too."
