Chapter 63 - Chapter 63: Money Isn’t the Problem—No Money Is

"The candidate for the new... body pillow?"

Diana pulled free from Jack Kadere's grip, momentarily stunned.

"One of his charming habits." White Canary, Sara Lance rose slowly, eyeing Diana with a mocking tone. "Don't get it? He means treating women like pillows to sleep with. Sometimes literally just sleeping. Total scum."

"Still better than someone who can only scissor." Jack Kadere fired back without bothering to ask how she knew about his preferences, then turned and tapped the console.

A moment later, data from a specific point in time appeared on the display.

"1871? Salvation, Dakota?" Sara Lance frowned at the screen. "What's there?"

"The candidate for the new body pillow. Unfortunately, I forgot her name, so I'll have to look for her the slow way." Jack Kadere glanced at Rip Hunter, who reluctantly instructed Gideon to initiate time travel.

The Waverider jumped through time once more.

This time Jack Kadere felt no discomfort. Diana seemed slightly tense but handled it well enough—demigod perks.

Outside Salvation.

The Waverider landed and engaged stealth mode. Jack Kadere smiled.

"Scissor-girl, you're with me. The rest of you have free time."

Rip Hunter stepped forward. "What exactly are you doing here? How long are we staying?"

"Looking for a new body pillow. As for how long?" Jack Kadere shrugged. "Until I find her."

He hooked his arm around Sara Lance and walked straight off the ship.

Diana frowned and followed.

Once outside, Sara Lance slapped his arm away. "Why drag me along?"

"Hostage." Jack Kadere said it like it was obvious. "What if they decide to fly off without me?"

"I mean why me?"

"Big tits." Jack Kadere glanced down at her chest. Sara Lance might not be as refined or pretty as her sister, but she was definitely stacked. "If I can't find a new body pillow, you'll do as a backup."

"You already have Wonder Woman." Sara Lance jerked her chin toward Diana.

"Could I actually sleep if I held her?"

"What's that supposed to mean?" Sara Lance stared at him. "You can't sleep holding her, but you can sleep holding me? Are you calling me ugly?"

"Your face would be perfect if two things were covered."

Sara Lance raised an eyebrow. "Which two things?"

"The left half and the right half."

She inhaled sharply, fighting the urge to break his nose. Just say my whole face, why don't you.

Salvation wasn't large—dusty, sun-bleached, and sparse. Wooden buildings lined the dirt street. Horses stood tethered to posts. Everyone dressed like Western cowboys, watching the three strangers with wary, curious eyes.

Jack Kadere blended in well enough.

Sara Lance wore her White Canary uniform. Diana wore Wonder Woman's armor. For this era, the outfits weren't just revealing—they were outright alien.

"Hey. Excuse me." Jack Kadere crooked a finger at a man standing by the roadside. The man approached hesitantly. "Relax. I just want to know where the brothel is."

Sara Lance's eyes went wide.

The man blinked, clearly not expecting anyone to ask that while flanked by two stunning women. He stole an envious glance at Diana and Sara Lance, then pointed toward a two-story building down the street. "That's the place. Though... you probably won't find anyone prettier than the two you've got."

"Life is full of surprises." Jack Kadere smiled and headed for the building.

He pushed open the door. Inside, a handful of men and women sat drinking in a modest hall. Every head turned. Seeing Jack Kadere walk in with Sara Lance and Diana—especially Diana—left the room momentarily speechless.

"Who runs this place?" Jack Kadere scanned the room.

A woman who looked like the madam approached. Jack Kadere flashed her a bright smile. "Bring out all your girls. I want to pick."

She studied him for a moment, then nodded and disappeared into the back.

A short while later, chaos erupted.

Every working girl in the establishment was herded into the hall.

"This won't do. Stand up straight. Form a line." Jack Kadere waved impatiently at the loose cluster of women. "Is this everyone?"

"This is everyone."

Jack Kadere nodded. Once the girls had arranged themselves properly, he walked down the line, inspecting each one.

"Not her. Not her... not her either."

He dismissed them one by one. When he reached the end, he turned to the madam. "You're sure there's no one else?"

"You didn't like any of them?" The madam hesitated. "There is one girl who just arrived, but—"

"Money is not a problem." Jack Kadere cut her off. "Bring her out."

"Alright."

The madam left and returned shortly with a woman who clearly hadn't had time to prepare herself.

Jack Kadere's eyes lit up.

"That's her."

The madam seemed surprised that someone so picky moments ago had made such an instant decision. She nodded and pushed the woman forward. "She's yours."

"Thanks." Jack Kadere smiled, draped an arm around the woman's shoulder, and walked toward the exit.

"Wait—the rooms are upstairs." The madam called after him. "And you said money's not a problem. You should pay first."

"Right. Money's not a problem." Jack Kadere turned and gave her another bright smile. "The problem is I don't have any."

"No—no money?"

The madam froze. Money's not a problem—the problem is having no money?

"Are you trying to cheat me?" Her voice rose sharply. "Do you have any idea what kind of place this is?"

As her shout echoed through the hall, several large men burst out from the sides and rushed toward Jack Kadere.

He didn't move. He just glanced at Sara Lance.

Sara Lance sighed and stepped forward.

Bang. Bang. Bang.

Trained by the League of Assassins, her movements were clean and brutal. In seconds, every man lay groaning on the floor while the rest of the room watched in horror.
