Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Blackgate Penitentiary

Catwoman clearly hadn't heard the "I'm BATMAN" joke, but who exactly was this guy? He possessed abilities identical to hers—stronger, even. When had Gotham produced such a character? And why would someone like him be locked in a prison? Was it an accident, or did he have another purpose?

Seeing him approach, Catwoman cautiously widened the distance between them.

Jack Kadere stopped and chuckled. "You can't beat me, and you can't escape. Why are you hiding? Where can you hide? I'm new here. I just want to chat and understand the situation."

Catwoman remained silent.

Jack Kadere frowned. "Do you understand 'chatting'? It's give and take. I say something, you respond. For example, I ask, 'Are you Catwoman?' and you reply, 'None of your business.' Then I ask, 'Then are you Selina Kyle?' Understand? That's the correct way to chat."

This WEIRDO really does know my identity!

Not only did he know she was Catwoman—he knew her real name.

"Still don't understand? That's okay, I'll teach you slowly." Seeing Catwoman still silent, Jack Kadere continued enthusiastically. "I ask you, 'Where is this?' You reply, 'This is Gotham.' Then I ask, 'Where's Batman?' You—"

"Batman is dead."

At the mention of Batman, Catwoman couldn't help but interject.

This really is Gotham!

Gotham City, with its simple folk, and Arkham, a hotbed of talent.

"That's great, you've mastered the art of conversation." Jack Kadere chuckled with satisfaction. "Batman is dead, but is Bruce Wayne still alive?"

"How do you know Bruce Wayne is—" Catwoman's eyes widened as she stared at Jack Kadere. She had only recently learned that Gotham's golden boy, the wealthy Bruce Wayne, was Batman. Who exactly was this guy? He knew her identity, and he knew Batman's identity! "I'm not sure, but he might be dead. He got into trouble with Bane."

Got into trouble with Bane? So, the spine-snapping had already happened? Tsk tsk—even though Bane loved breaking backs, Batman wasn't that easy to kill. He was like the villains in cartoons who always shouted "I'll be back!" So Batman should be finding somewhere to lick his wounds and prepare for a comeback. And since this was Gotham, Bane should be ruling it now, right? This sounded like the plot of The Dark Knight Rises.

"This is Blackgate Penitentiary, right?" Jack Kadere asked.

"You don't even know what prison you're locked in?" Catwoman clearly didn't want to answer such a stupid question.

"I don't even know when I'm going to die, but I still have to live day by day, don't I?" Jack Kadere said casually.

Is that even the same thing?

Catwoman glared at Jack Kadere. You weirdo—you're the one who can't hold a conversation!

Ignoring Catwoman's angry, silent accusation, Jack Kadere turned and walked to the bed, lying down leisurely. His actions made Catwoman frown slightly. She gently rolled her shoulder and scrutinized him.

He looked like a young man of eighteen or nineteen, with a buzz cut and handsome features carrying a hint of youthfulness—no different from an ordinary college student.

"What's your name?" Catwoman couldn't help but ask.

"Jack Kadere." This time, he didn't mention being BATMAN.

Muttering the name to herself, Catwoman was certain she had never heard it before. Seeing his relaxed demeanor, she said, "Aren't you planning to leave? Gotham is already controlled by Bane, and no one knows what he'll do. He might destroy the city. While we still have a chance to escape, if we wait too long, we might not be able to."

"How about we cooperate and get out of here?"

Jack Kadere rolled over to face Catwoman, one foot resting on the edge of the bed, swaying gently.

Catwoman looked at him, her gaze inadvertently fixing on his swaying foot. "Cooperate?"

"Mm." Jack Kadere responded almost unconsciously, and his foot swayed with greater amplitude. Catwoman's eyes sharpened, her brows furrowing. Is this guy crazy? Just lie down—why is he swaying his foot? She was about to speak in displeasure when she heard Jack Kadere let out a soft chuckle.

"What are you laughing at?"

"Nothing." Jack Kadere shook his head slightly. Although he didn't have a cat toy, the effect seemed similar. "Cooperation isn't really necessary. I have my own way of leaving, but if you want to go, I can help."

"How?"

Jack Kadere got up and walked to the cell bars. He studied the gaps between them, then turned back to assess Catwoman's figure before gripping the bars with both hands.

"Don't tell me you're planning to bend those. That's absolutely impossible."

Before he transmigrated, Jack Kadere's physique and strength had been only at an ordinary level. Though Catwoman was a woman, her trained strength surpassed that of an average man.

He had just tested it, and his strength increased after stacking. As for how much—that depended entirely on how many times it was stacked.

Theoretically, after Infinite Superposition, even Catwoman's strength could become ridiculous.

After roughly estimating his current capabilities, Jack Kadere said softly, "Infinite Superposition, ten times."

His strength surged. Jack Kadere gripped the bars with both hands and pulled.

A creaking groan rang out instantly. The next moment, three finger-thick steel bars bent outward, creating an opening large enough for one person to pass through.

After bending the bars, Jack Kadere examined them for a few moments but seemed somewhat unsatisfied. After a pause, he leaned on the bars and pulled them back slightly, only then nodding with approval.

"Please, go ahead."

Jack Kadere turned, bowed, and extended his hand with a smile toward the dumbfounded Catwoman.
