Chapter 10 - The Midnight Ambush

The palace was quiet, draped in the stillness of night, but Aria's senses buzzed with unease. The Masked Ball's festivities had ended hours ago, but the undercurrents of danger had only grown stronger.

Lucien stood by her side, his silver eyes scanning every shadow, every flicker of movement. His wolf, Shade, prowled silently nearby, muscles coiled and ready.

"We're not alone," Lucien murmured.

Aria's heart pounded. She tightened her grip on his arm, feeling the solid weight of his presence.

Suddenly, from the darkness, a group of masked figures emerged, weapons glinting under the moonlight.

"Protect the Luna!" Lucien commanded, drawing his blade.

Aria's wolf surged within her, instincts sharpening her reflexes. She stepped forward, ready to fight beside her King.

The clash was swift and brutal. Steel met steel, growls echoed through the night. Aria dodged a strike, countering with a burst of power fueled by the bond with Lucien. She felt the magic of the crescent mark flare, sending a shockwave that knocked two attackers back.

Lucien fought fiercely, his movements a deadly dance of strength and precision. Shade tore through the enemy ranks, snarling and biting.

Despite their skill, the attackers pressed on, relentless and coordinated.

Aria's breath hitched as a blade slashed toward her. Time slowed. She twisted, barely avoiding the strike, and retaliated with a force that sent her assailant sprawling.

The battle raged until the last attacker fled into the night, leaving behind broken weapons and shattered resolve.

Lucien sheathed his sword and turned to Aria, eyes blazing with pride.

"You fought well," he said.

Aria, panting, smiled weakly. "I'm learning."

The following day, news of the ambush spread throughout the kingdom. The attack was a clear message—enemies were closing in, and the stakes were higher than ever.

In the throne room, Lucien addressed his council, his voice resolute.

"We will not be intimidated. The Luna is the heart of this kingdom, and we will defend her with our lives."

Aria stood tall beside him, feeling the weight of her role settle firmly on her shoulders.

That evening, alone in her chambers, Aria traced the crescent mark on her wrist, pondering the prophecy and her growing power.

Lucien entered quietly, sitting beside her.

"You carry the future of the Lycan Kingdom," he said softly. "And together, we will face whatever darkness comes."

She leaned into him, the promise of their bond stronger than ever.
