Prologue

___

Six to eighteen. Spade and Heir basically saw each other grow up. For their past academic life, they went on the same school: elementary, high school, until now—senior high school. Always sitting apart like their surnames on the alphabetically arranged list of names.

Heir was famous in their school, and many guys had tried to court her—but Spade had always been on the way; acting as a bodyguard when a guy tries to get near. Not because he wants to, but because Heir requested to. But don't underestimate Spade, he is as famous as her too. However, Heir always acted rude towards every girl that gets close to him, indirectly pushing them away.

Despite their protective bond, students' number one question was, "Why don't they just date each other then?!" If Heir doesn't want any girl go near Spade, and if Spade keeps every boy away from Heir, then they should just date each other, goddamn it.

In terms of academics, both are equally good, with Heir excelling in math and every other subject, and Spade excelling in break time. Yeah... Spade is a slacker, unlike Heir. He was the type to play games ten minutes before the exam starts... but for some stupid reason—he still gets a high grade! Some wonder if he just brought four balls with A to D written on it and started gambling mid-test, or he's just Isaac Newton in the flesh—no one knows.

On the other hand, Heir aces every exam. Give her round eyeglasses and she's a nerd. And they are sure that she's not using some ancient power to buff her luck like Spade. She's hardworking, her notes are unbelievably well-written, and she knows everything even if the lesson just started. She's been rank one in the entire school since the beginning, and paired with her natural beauty—white long hair, light blue eyes—she's every guy's dream girl.

___

"Spade, wake up!" Heir yelled from outside the tall wall, her voice echoing to the second-floor window—Spade's room.

Then the window opened after a few seconds. Spade smiled—brushing his teeth—then lifted his hand to signal, "Wait for me!"

Heir replied with a nod, then pulled out her phone to kill her time while waiting. Normally, Heir walks inside the gates like it's nothing—greeting Spade's mom with a wide smile on her face. But this day was different. One family from Spade's mother's side was having a vacation in their house, and Heir was shy—or should I say, scared that they'd tease her as Spade's girlfriend.

It's not that she didn't want it, though. It was about Spade's reaction to it. He always seemed annoyed whenever others called them couples, and she didn't want that.

Ten minutes later, Spade popped up from the corner—walking towards Heir while she leaned against the wall, scrolling through social media.

"Morning, Heir," Spade waved his hand.

"Oh?" Heir slid her phone to her pocket and shifted her gaze towards Spade. "Good morning! You're earlier than I expected."

Spade checked his wristwatch and lifted an eyebrow.

"It's been ten minutes since you arrived. I wouldn't call that early..."

"Was it?" Heir leaned her head sideways.

Spade smiled. "You watched one of those radio shows on TikTok, haven't you? Hahaha, those always get me. I thought I was only listening for two minutes, then turns out five minutes had already passed."

Heir widened her eyes and grabbed her phone from her pocket instantly.

"How did you know?!" she asked with a surprised tone, then showed the video she was watching.

Spade simply smiled after looking at it.

"Yeah, it's probably my fault. I sometime send you those to keep our streak running... It probably started popping out of your FYP because of it."

"Ehh, I don't mind at all. I'm just surprised that you knew exactly what it is."

"Hahaha. Let's get going then."

"Alright!"

Heir skipped towards Spade, and they walked side by side. Their destination: Serenity Academy.
