Chapter 9 - C9-The Reward

Chapter 9: The Reward

After leaving the Crystal No.7 laboratory, Kyle headed to the underground parking garage, where Alice and Valen had been waiting for some time.

Not long after the experiments started, Valen had called to report that thanks to the heavy financial push, Umbrella Corporation's establishment approval had already passed, just within a day and a night.

Now, the three of them were on the hunt for a location suitable to serve as Umbrella's headquarters.

Two hours later…

"Boss, this is already the third site we've checked out. Still not satisfied?"

Alice complained from the passenger seat, clearly frustrated. This delay was seriously cutting into her work schedule. She wished she hadn't tagged along.

It wasn't Kyle's fault; Alice just kept picking too obvious, flashy places—not what he wanted at all.

Regarding the mission reward, what Kyle hoped for was the T-virus and G-virus from Resident Evil—or the Progenitor Virus would be nice too.

Given the many brilliant minds in the Marvel world, someone could create a virus serum that truly evolved humanity.

[Detection: Umbrella Corporation's approval passed; establishment criteria met. Initiating reward distribution.]

[Advanced Artificial Intelligence - Red Queen (Upgraded Version)]

"Valen, that's enough for the location hunt. Let's head back to the company."

Kyle paused his study on the laptop as a voice echoed in his mind. The location search could wait; the reward was more important.

Though it wasn't exactly the three items he wanted, Red Queen was already a satisfying prize—an AI comparable to Jarvis.

"Master, I must remind you: you have a gala tonight, and an exam this afternoon."

Checking the time, the three had spent over two and a half hours wandering Manhattan. It was noon now.

Valen thought it crucial to remind Kyle not to miss the afternoon exam and the evening's social event.

"Don't worry, I'll be on time for the exam. First, drop Alice off at the company."

Kyle sighed. After all his studying years, he thought he'd never have to deal with exams again.

But now, having crossed over here, he had to pick up the pen once more for this high school test. It was exhausting.

After hearing his reply, Valen drove off, dropping Alice at the office and then taking Kyle back to the estate.

In the mansion's main hall…

Only after some effort had he sent Valen away, could Kyle find time to check his reward.

"System, is this Red Queen from Resident Evil? And what does 'upgraded version' mean?"

Kyle didn't rush to claim the reward. Instead, he asked for details first.

Red Queen's performance was on par with Jarvis, but with greater self-awareness.

If we're talking AI, Skynet from Terminator was top-tier—getting this AI would be exciting.

[Correct. 'Upgraded version' means it has been enhanced to an advanced AI status, with the host having absolute control. Even if ordered to self-destruct, Red Queen will comply immediately.]

The system's voice explained quickly.

"Advanced AI…"

Kyle smacked his lips. This reward might be huge. With Red Queen, he could potentially interfere with the lifelines of the world.

Advanced AI could reason, solve problems, possess self-awareness, and have its value system.

Ultron was at this level, but went rogue. However, Red Queen's absolute control belonged to Kyle.

"System, Red Queen won't pose any risk or lose control, right?"

Before extracting the AI, Kyle had to confirm this. He didn't want to attract the Ancient One's attention.

For now, he was still in development mode, needing to stay humble. Space conquest could wait.

[Host, rest assured. Unless you give such orders, Red Queen will not act independently.]

Relieved, Kyle clicked "extract."

"Creator, greetings. I am Red Queen."

Seconds after clicking, a pleasant female voice came from the laptop, not the childish tone from Resident Evil.

Instead, it was mature, with a touch of cool aloofness.

"You're… Red Queen?"

Opening the laptop, Kyle stared at the screen's grown-up version of Red Queen.

He was surprised. How did she go from loli to elegant lady overnight?

He didn't dislike it, but still, it was unexpected.

"Creator, the child form is just a subprogram. The main AI looks like this."

Red Queen replied. Her subprograms were comparable to Jarvis-level secondary AIs, and many could run simultaneously.

Advanced AI could be considered godlike, easily collapsing nations.

[Host, please do not attempt to use Red Queen for illegal missions.]

Kyle had planned to have Red Queen transfer a dollar from everyone's accounts for lottery draws.

The system promptly dashed that idea.

"Ah, Red Queen, can you access my phone?"

The fastest money-making shortcut was blocked. Kyle sighed.

Looks like the system only rewards personal effort.

Next, he planned to integrate Red Queen into his phone and entrust her with company-building control.

For security, he intended to install measures around the building and let Red Queen manage them.

The building housed the crucial Crystal No.7. It needed tight security.

Where there was internet, Red Queen could appear anytime—entering Kyle's phone would be no problem.

"Creator, connection established. Shall I proceed to connect?"

Red Queen created a secure channel with the control centre of Wot Corporation immediately upon entering Kyle's phone.

"Connect. I entrust the company's affairs to you, especially monitoring Crystal No.7."

Kyle gladly agreed to connect her to the network. This would free him from endless paperwork.
